It has already occurred to me on previous rewatches but...I think Cordelia has a funny attitude with the Scoobies. Even before hanging out with them because of, say, Xander, or to help with the mystical stuff, she doesn't seem to actually hate the Scoobies.
In the first episode, she definitely is a bitch (like when she's mocking Willow).
She's all popular and stuff, but it seems she can't help but to have interactions with them. The first time I ticked was in The Witch, when she's actually talking to Willow during the try-outs. Just one sentence, and to complain about someone else, but still, she talks to Willow without insulting her. In Nightmares, she randomly says to Buffy "I hope you studied for the history test". And there are a few occurences where she just talks to the Scoobies. Or she's mean to them but it sometimes looks like she mocks them in a affectionate way, like if she wasn't that popular she would actually get along with them, like them.
I sometimes feel that she's happy with her clique but feels connected to the Scoobies in a way, and a part of them, even tough she'll never admit it.
She even bounds with Willow when she's dating Xander.
I think deep down, she envies the Scoobies and wants to be friendish with them, and have more interactions that "I so agree with you Cordelia you are so awesome you are the Queen".
My point is: I sometimes think when I see her: "You know you want to be part of that, don't lie to yourself 😀".
What do you guys think? Did you ever have the impression Cordelia actually liked the Scoobies?
