1. Cordy wasn't an "arrogant fake wannabe." She was a beautiful, famous, rich, loved, mature, adored movie star. She had EVERYTHING. Everything she, and anyone else ever could've wanted. But she saw Angel, who she hadn't even loved in this reality, and she gave up her beyond perfect life so that he wouldn't have to suffer. That's an incredibly selfless move, by any standards. 🙂

2. Actually, the writers themselves have stated that Angel went crazy simply because he did not have Cordelia. He could've survived the visions; But after his only friend, Doyle died, he didn't have any link to humanity. He was completely alone. So, he reverted back to his 100-year-rat-eating-in-alleys self. If he had Cordelia like he was meant to, he would've one, never gotten the visions, and two, never would've gone crazy. 😀

I don't get people who say Cordelia wasn't a bitch... she was, and that pretty much cannot be argued.

Cordelia is my favorite character besides Willow, btw, so I'm definitely not bashing her. But yeah... definite bitch on Buffy.

A defining moment for her was in Birthday. She became part-demon without hesitation, without knowing exactly what it would do to her to spare someone else agony.

And she wasn't a fake wannabe in the alternate timeline. Her show was successful.
 
Cordelia was honest but also insensitive and tactless and yes in the beginning I do think she was vain and arrogant, materialistic much like the stock type of the Valley Girl.

Cordy has always had the blunt side to her and even in your welcome she's still a tad vain but none of this negates her sense of heroism. Even her out and out honest had it's advantages, such as telling Buffy what she needed to hear even if she didn't want to hear it and getting though to Lilah about being a victim of violence.

She was also pretty nice to Willow after High School at least on the phone.

I think Cordy always had a good heart but yeah she was a vicious bitch in High School, but being a vicious bitch can be a compliment...

Also, an interesting side note or question, how alike are Anya and Cordy?
 
The only thing I see alike about Anya and Cordy are that they are both blunt... and gorgeous .😛

Okay! Cordelia is what kept Angel human. She was the closest friend Angel had.

Exactly. One thing Cordelia has done many times is give up her own happiness to benefit others. She gave up her stardom on Birthday, she gave up Angel to ascend to the higher plane, and she used the favor the PTBs owed her after the Jasmine mess to get Angel back on track. Sure, she was vain sometimes or overly confident but why should Cordelia's opinion of herself matter to anybody else?
 
I have to agree with the majority on this one to me Cordy was one of the characters that grew the most since the very beginning. Over the years she changed from being selfish to being selfless. She gave up her own happiness and desired life many times on Angel starting with the visions, followed by her own life to become a high power. To me thats a huge growth, its was almost like looking at two different characters at times especially when she would reason with Angel. She'd have never done that in the earlier years or at least not the extent she did it in, in Angel.

Well yes, she gave up popularity but that's not the only thing made her such a good person. What also and most importantly made her extraordinary was that when she was poor and got the visions, she pretty much dedicated her life to saving people and helping them. And also what do you mean Angel wouldn't be in that state because of Cordelia? He didn't just need her only because the writers of the series made her a main character, he needed her to figure out what kind of demon he needed to fight or who he needed to save because she was seeing these things in her visions.

i'm just irked cos i watched s1 last night and i know its high school but O M F G. Too shallow for words. Still, i dont see the 'growth' !?! Bit more mature, yes, but nothin to brag about. Even in angel s3 she made snide comments about being hotter than Fred(and she so wasn't)
i dunno, angel s1&2 she was bareable but the rest, ugh, it was sick to see

I don't mean to be rude, but how can you not see the growth in Cordelia as a character?! She's got be the first character on Buffyverse to have grown the most, because she's changed so much from a rich, popular, and snobby girl to a nice, helpful, and caring girl who helps and saves people for living.

Also, in response to Cordelia not being hotter than Fred, as Wishing Oceans said, Fred is supposed to be the smart, cute, and nice kind of pretty, Cordelia on the otherhand is supposed to be a hot and sexy kind of pretty. Although, I personally think that Cordelia is prettier than Fred, which doesn't mean that I don't think Fred isn't pretty, because I think she's really pretty, but I'm just leaning more towards Cordelia.

You're forgetting that Buffy had just tried to kill Cordelia with a stick. By accident, of course. But still, I think her reaction was justified. And Willow was kinda asking for it. I mean, look at her clothes! She let her mom dress her? For real? She's sixteen! If anything, Cordelia helped Willow. Notice how she never wore that outfit again? I think it was for the best.

First off let me say I have not finished Angel, I'm only on season 2 and have been told that my feelings toward Cordelia will change. I however find that doubtful 😛

In Buffy, she was pointless. She was just a mean girl who was self centered and extremely rude to Willow and most of the time Buffy and Xander too. She obviously had her own issues within her little circle of friends because she kept finding herself around the scoobies more often than who she considered her 'friends'. She was always in the way, never doing anything besides being counter productive and simply annoying with her crude remarks. The one thing that really got me angry with her was when she was with Xander she was ashamed of him and herself for being with someone not up to her social par. It bugged me that she acted like she was a self confident bitca but when it really came down to it she wasn't even secure enough to let her friends and peers see that she was happy with a 'dork' like Xander. She was too insecure to show off her feelings because of what others would say. I guess in a sense you could say she was a hypocrite here for acting that way. At least the scoobies didn't care what others thought of them, they were who they were and they were happy about it 🙂

Now in Angel, I do see a change in her. It's slowly progressing but it's there. She's making me laugh a lot with her remarks but I also feel like I only see this change in her because there is no one lower than her who she can boss around and put down. At least here she has some significance with being the vision girl and all. I have found myself starting to like her a little bit more...and everyone keeps telling me I will love her when she becomes a champion or something along those lines.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see 🙂

I freakiing love Cordy all the way. Even when I first watched Buffy she didn't piss me off, I thought she was hilarious.

Then I really grew to love her in Angel because she truly let herself come out without fear. She's beautiful, kind, brave, and heroic. I don't see how anyone could really hate her.

I was put down in High School. That isn't being put down. I was actually put down by REAL mean girls, the kind who spit on you, who call you numerous amounts of homosexual insults, and actually physically assault you, for really no apparent reason. You don't know what mean is, if you think Cordelia was mean. I would've given almost ANYTHING to have someone who was just brutally honest and didn't care how I felt, than someone who wanted to hurt me. Someone on here called Cordy a bully. A bully beats you up and emotionally torments you. I know. I had the honor of being a victim to that, as well. Bullying isn't making not so nice but truthful comments.

I love cordy!!! I think she showed a lot of layers on buffy alone.... In the marcy episode (where the ignored girl disappears - I'm horrible with names, sorry) she shows a lot of voulnerability when she expresses that she knows her "friends" only hang around her because they perceive that she's popular. That she knows they don't really care about her.... but being alone surrounded by people is better than being alone by yourself she says.... And as I've mentioned earlier, she demonstrates true bravery at times. Her journey on angel takes her growth in leaps and bounds, but it's not from totally out of nowhere. I can see the groundwork being laid in the early seasons in buffy. Also, not only does she stand up to harmony about dating xander, but later, when she thinks xander has turned into a fish monster, she expresses a willingness to continue the relationship. That's already a far cry from where she started.
 
I like Cordy in Buffy. She's mean, but she has a soft side that you see.. in seasons 2 and 3. She's a flat out bitch in season one, but in her other two seasons, she's just very tactless and frank. however, I cannot STAND the whole maturity thing they did to her on Angel. Ugh.
