Cordy from "Buffy" to "Angel"

It's so odd to think that this shallow, perky girl that tells Buffy where to get books in the very first Buffy episode of season 1 is the same person that ends up...I believe having a kid named jasmine with Angel's son as the father and then she winds up...i think gonzo.

Funny how life takes you places you don't want to go, eh?
 
Giles: Stuffy Watcher to much cooler "dark edge" guy.
Willow: Computer nerd to powerful witch and (almost) destroyer of the world.
Spike: Evil vamp to heroic champion and destroyer of the Hellmouth.
Wesley: Geeky stiff upper lip Watcher to hardass demon hunter.
Gunn: Street level vamp killer to lawyer.
Fred: Science nerd to the embodiment of an Old One.

DEFINATELY funny how life can change you! 😉
 
^ Well, at least in the Whedonverse. 😛 Also, all of this happened within seven years. That's even more amazing. x]
 
Although each of the characters goes through something, there is something about cordelia transformation that makes it really stick out! It was just amazing to look at cordelia in (I'm gonna say seaosn 3 of Angel, but it can be 5 too) Then look back at who she was it just...wow!

It's a little bit funny-if you watch the current UPN series Veronica Mars you've seen Charisma Carpenter in a recurring character role, playing a shallow, self-centered, materialistic trophy wife named Kendall Casablancas. She's sort of what you'd imagine the original Cordelia Chase of Season 1 of Buffy to have become 8-10 years later, if she hadn't changed at all.
 
Yeah you can't say that Cordelias character didn't grow! I loved Cordy in Angel!

CC, as has already mentioned it was 7 years since we first met all the characters, of course they are going to change! I think if Cordy had not bumped into Angel, she would either be dead, or she would still be the shallow Cordy that we all saw in Buffy S1-3.

Personally, I didn't enjoy Cordelia in ATS, she seemed out of character, so to speak.

I am sorry but that statement is nonsense. From that standpoint every single character of BtVS and AtS was out of character from a certain point on. It's what we call character development. To go through all the events the characters have to face over the years and NOT change, that's what I would call *out of character*. Feel free to like or dislike the direction a character is developed to, but don't expect them to stay the same.

I could not diagree more, maybe if you watched season 1 - 3 of Buffy then stared Angel in Season 3 she would have seemed out of character. But Cordelia grew as a Character, when she left Buffy, And becasue we got to see her grew that is still the same cordelia!

OH MY Goodness....

Controversy......LOL

I love Cordelia in ALL her glorious years on the shows.....BUT i always got the feeling in BTVS her character could have been bumped from Co-Star to guest star, cause alot of the time, she was under/mis used. BUT when she became a member...sorry, FOUNDING member of ATS, she cemented a place, and a character, that will be adored as long as this show is known.
She was wonderful in ATS....i personally think, of all the characters Joss took with him, Cordelias was the most realistic, lets face it she was too big for a one starbucks town, and she took a sense of humour with her that helped edge those long dark broody nights of Angel....plus she zinged with Glenn Quinn.....
 
Cordelia did change a lot and I don't think at all that she was out of chracter in Angel. It's called growing up. We all do it. But I agree with BEG that Cordy's transformation does stick out a lot. Mainly because she went from being a snotty bitca to a great warrior. It is amazing when you think about it. Sometimes when I watch Buffy and then Angel, I can't believe it's the same person.
 
Even over Season 1 of Buffy the character of Cordelia started showing that there was more to her than shallow-social climber-material girl. She plays her part in the finale-remember how she pulls up with her car to rescue Willow and Jenny in "Prophecy Girl", and fights with the gang in the library (*Bite* "See how You like it!", LOL). She suffers loss in that episode too-Kevin (I think that's the name) being killed by the vampires.
 
Plus, look wat happened in the first two seasons of Angel. Not only did someone die that she had, potentially, feelings for and were close friends with at that point, but her boss, and OTHER close friend, Angel, went crazy and fired her. She went through a LOT on Angel, and thats why she wasnt shallow high school popular chick. Plus, most people after high school tend to grow.

And don't forget that girl used to name Angel as "salty goodness" and eventually did ended up with him. Well, not exactly ended up, but you get the point. 🙂
