Cordy's Eyes

In the fourth season, why is it that Cordelia's eyes get whiter and whiter everytime she has a vision? In Apocalypse Nowish when she has a vision of the beast, the brown part of her eyes turn white but you can still see the pupil. In Awakening when she has the vision of the sword her eyes have kind of a bluish whitish mist in them covering most of her eyes. In Calvary when she has the vision to supposedly restore Angel's soul her eyes turn completely white and you cant see anything at all in there.Do you think that the whiteness in her eyes had anything to do with how consumed with evil Cordy was?I mean in the episodes surrounding Apocalypse Nowish she still had some of her Cordy traits but was doing bad things like sleeping with Connor.She showed to have felt bad for it afterwards.It could have been an act or there probably was a little bit of Cordy still in control.In the episodes surrounding Awakening she kinda stepped up her evilness and stole Angel's soul. In the episodes surrounding Calvary she went all out by letting Angelus out and murdering Lilah. She also tried to kill Willow and treated Connor horribly.Even though some people might think he deserved it.I'm sorry for rambling on but if you can understand what im trying to say please let me know what you think.

It could either be your theory... that as the season progressed, Cordy got "evil-er" and therefore her eyes kept getting whiter.

Or, it could just be an incontinuity in the makeup/effects.

Whatever you choose. I'm guessing just incontinuity.

I like your theory better, I mean it makes sense when you think about it....

I had always assumed her eyes got white like that because she was being taken over by some evil thing. You explained it really well though! 🙂

As everybody else said, its obvious that Cordy's eyes got whiter and whiter throughout the season because she was becoming more and more possesed by Jasmine.

It isn't just in Season 4 either. In Season 1, in Rm W/a Vu, after Cordy out-bitches the ghost of Maude, Cordelia walks out into the living room to talk to Doyle and Angel. Something takes possession of her. Her eyes go white. All of a sudden she knows she has to knock down the wall that contains Phantom Dennis.

It's interesting in that episode that she finally beats Maude by contacting the evil side of her nature.

I've heard Cordy's white eyes compared to Principal Wood's eyes going white in Buffy Season 7's episode Storyteller. It's while he's standing on the Seal of Danzalthar.

The white eyes of Wood and Cordy are sometimes used as support for a theory that says The First was in cahoots with Jasmine. Remember in Amends The First tells Angel "We brought you back". Also the agenda of possessed Cordy is the same as the First's was in Amends. Turn Angel evil. Get control of him.

However it's also worth pointing out Jane Espenson wrote both Rm W/a Vu, and Storyteller. Is it possible she just liked the way the white eye effect worked the first time, so she decided to write it in again as soon as she got a chance. Possibly the Season 4 guys saw Rm W/a Vu, and thought, "Hey, that white eye thing was cool. Let's use that."
