I think Cordelia would have become one of the better fighters. From her cheerleader days, she was certainly athletic and due to this mastered some fighting and sword techniques very fast when Angel trained her. I think her brief fight scene in "You're Welcome " was a hint of what a good fighter she would have become.
We never got to see it though, because when she gained those demon powers she became less reliant on fighting, and then she ascended.
Leaving powers aside. In a simple fist fight, she would take Willow and Fred. Maybe Xander. Willow with powers - bye bye Cordy. She wouldn't last long against the top tiers, but is less emotional than say Buffy, who would struggle with killing Spike or Angel. If she got her chance, she'd take it. Cordy is awesome, but can still be a stone cold bitca. 😀

I fully agree with inthedoorway's list. Bottom tier, with unrealized potential to have reached mid tier if she'd lived long enough for more training.

I think she'd kick Xander's ass into the next kingdom... and clearly beat a non-magicked Willow, but less badly than Xander.

With Fred, I'm not sure, I think they're quite evenly matched. If they got down to wrestling, Cordy would have the advantage due to more weight, though... which isn't to say Cordy's fat. Except for Gachnar, pretty much everyone would have the weight advantage against Fred, even Jonathan. 😛

Xander remembered all of those military positions, etc. from the "Halloween" epiosde, so I would definitely place him with Wesley. And although Cordelia may have gotten better thanks to Angel, she had no time to show it, so we can't be certain.

Also, I barely remember Gunn getting hurt in all his years of fighting. He has the same amount of integrity that Buffy, Angel, Spike, Willow, and Faith have.

I'm fairly certain that Xander states somewhere in Season 4 that he has forgotten all his military training. And even he does remember any of it, we are shown no proof that he can. We have seen Wesley take on much scarier, tougher demons then Xander ever has - for example in Season 3 Angel when Wesley chops a demon in half.

And have we come to any conclusion yet over whether this is purely based on fighting? Or do people's knowledge and mystical strength count? Because as far as the Xander vs Wesley discussion goes, I think Wesley would be a stronger fighter then Xander also due to his extensive training and knowledge.

And are you saying that you think Gunn would be able to stand up to Faith or Buffy in a fight? I don't think he would stand a chance in hell. Sure - he can fight. But not on the same level as Spike, Angel, Faith and Buffy.

Gunn's definitely the top of 2nd tier - agreed to that. And I can see him hold his own against Kennedy or some other "New Slayers"... but Connor? Really? Gunn would be so dead.

As to Xander vs. Cordy... if we take S8 NickFury!Xander vs. Highschool Cordy, then yes, of course, Xander comes out victorious. But Cordy on Angel vs. Xander in any TV season, I see Xander losing painfully. 😉

Yeah I watched that episode recently, even Angel seemed taken aback at how quickly she was picking up the moves he was teaching her.

And sorry Billy, but I think Connor would kick Gunn's bum! I would put Connor in the top tier before I would put Gunn there.

I agree. Poor thing. For those who think he was a weakling, perhaps your should watch Go Fish when he was able to beat the coach, and the coach had a gun!

I can just imagine how you can see Xander beat Cordy, even though I still disagree on that... but putting him on the same level as Giles or Wesley? ::huh:: No way, Wayne. (Unless you judge Giles only on the basis of S1, and Wes only during his time on Buffy... but in that case, I guess even Dawn could take Giles and Wes, combined. 😀 )

Have you seen all of Buffy and Angel or only parts of it? Because I do not understand AT ALL what show you've been watching if you think Xander would stand any chance against Wesley.

Saw? I think both Xander and Wesley had been in the same amount of fights, and maybe Xander a bit more since he'd been fighting with Buffy since S1. Wesley was released from Watcher School in S3.

I think Wesley has the same fighting skills as Xander. Without the guns, he's just average.

It's hard to compare a kid who hadn't had any fighting lessons and had nothing but a stake to fight with an older man who had probably been trained to fight and uses guns to win.

I think when you guys compare Xander and others, you only look at the younger, inexperienced Xander. Yet, when you look at Wesley or Cordelia, you see them after they'd developed. How about S8 Xander? With the cool outfit and the cool eye patch and the cool position, would he be worthy of the second place? 😉
