Cordy's fighting skills

Cordelia would kick the crap out of Xander. He couldn't even take Harmony in season 4. From what we've seen, Xander wasn't trained in anything. He had also forgotten all of his military training by the end of the series. He was one of the few characters who never showed any progression in his fighting skills.

He had already forgotten most of it as early as S4. I don't remember the exact ep it was in (no doubt someone will remember and post it here, soon 😉 ), but wasn't there this scene in his basement when he couldn't get a gun to work, and Giles did the trick easily?

I think that scene was merely for comedy. Xander had fought good in other scenes -for example Go Fish, Becoming Part 1, the Gift, Intervention... etc. As for his fighting skills, he was really good with an arrow and a bow -I guess he learned how to use them after Buffy's death, seeing as he using them in fights after S5.

But then, he lost his eye, so I guess his shooting won't be as good as it used to be. Poor guy. Whenever he musters something, it's taken away from him (Military knowledge, construction, shooting an arrow...)
 
Well I believe that if Charisma hadn't been pregnant throughout season 4 they would have progressed her fighting skills greatly. Also on the Xander situation I always thought that what was done with Wesley should have happened with Xander first, though he was in alot of the battles fighting wise he wasn't allowed to be a great fighter.

I do think though that was because they wanted to keep him for comedy but I think that allowing him to progress combatantly wouldn't have taken away from his ability to joke. And that's why I believe Wesley is more than a match for Xander I mean compare Season 4-5 Wesley with anything of Xander Seasons 1-7.

But Jasmine wasn't woken up until the end of "Spin the Bottle".
 
She way not have been "woken up", but she definitely was there... kinda like Angelus is always "there" even inside of ensouled Angel.
I guess it's one of the many things in S4 you can argue till the end of days. 😉 Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the apparently few who loved the season... but not even I will deny there's some gaping holes and inconsistencies in its plot (no wonder, as they had to change a lot of it on the fly because of Charisma. ^^ )
 
Xanders fight with Harmony was definatly just for comedy, he's been shown to be a better fighter than that. And look at Harmony in Harms Way, she knocks out 3 people with a punch then kicks the crap outta that vamp so she's not as weak as shes made out to be either.

And i've read a few comments about how Xander couldn't take s4-5 Wes on in a fight. But apart from Wes's fight with Gunn(which he'd have so lost) when else does Wes fight, without guns? He never fights hand to hand.

From an audience member's point of view, of course it was for comedy. But from Harmony's point of view, Xander can't fight to save his life.

Also, let's not forget that Harmony was gone for three seasons. We don't know what she was doing that whole time. She could have easliy gotten some training after being run off by Angel and the gang.
 
Gunn's definitely the top of 2nd tier - agreed to that. And I can see him hold his own against Kennedy or some other "New Slayers"... but Connor? Really? Gunn would be so dead.

Conner annoyed me to no end, but was pretty bad arse in combat. Gunn or any other average human is NO MATCH for him.However, don't think he could beat Angel, Faith, Buffy or Spike.

As I recall Faith whupped that behind in the 4th season.


But Gunn is probably the BEST human fighter in Buffyverse.

Like another poster said, he ripped those vamps all kinds of new ones in the final episode.
