I read an article in a newspaper the other week about this woman who is addicted to cosmetic surgery, when surgens refused to work on her anymore she took to doing it herself and when she ran out of silicone she injected her face with cooking oil, leaving herself horribly disfigured.

Cosmetic surgery addict injected cooking oil into her face | World News | News.com.au

I do think that its your body and you can do with it what you wish, its not my place to judge anyone who wants to have some kind of work done but I myself would never do that. I understand why people do if its for a legitamate medical type reason, but an addiction like this is just horribly sick, its hard to get my head around why someone would keep doing that to themselves but obviously its a mental thing.

I was just wondering what are people on the boards thoughts concerning plastic surgery? have any of you gone under the knife before?

OMG, I cringed so much just reading the cooking oil thing I'm scared to click the link....
I suppose at some point in the future if I thought some minor botox injections or something would make me look younger, I'd probably do it, but I'd never want to have any MAJOR plastic surgery done...I'd just be too scared at the thought of it not turning out the way I'd hoped. Some people look absolutely awful after they've had it done...I mean, look at Michael Jackson, Joan Rivers, Janice Dickinson or Lisa Rinna's lips...

That story is sad, though...it's hard not to think the woman is just a plain idiot, but an addiction is an addiction and they're serious.

Oh God, this is really depressing 🙁

At first I had to think of Hellboy and the German character, but yeah no this is actually something that really happened and yeah examples like Michael Jackson and so on are just in a way really saddening. I can understand people who want to undergo surgery, because of psychological problems or just due to medical issues, but just for anything else no. I don't think I myself would want to do anything like it. I'm just plain to scared of surgeries in a way. Anyway, nothing is perfect, because you straten a line in your face, pump yourself full silicon or do this and that. Beauty is for me something more natural and it definetly doesn't have to be perfect.

There are other ways to work on oneself. I should follow my words and do some exercise ^^

Holy crap... I knew I shouldn't have clicked on that link... that is the most disturbing thing I've seen in a while. That woman obviously has some serious psychological issues... I mean cooking oil?! Personally right now I don't think I'd ever really feel the need to have any plastic surgery done... although I reserve the right to change my mind when I get older and depending on medical advancements making procedures that turn out looking 100% natural... cause as it is now someone's had work done, you can generally tell and IMO its because theres something "off" about the after look, it more often than not looks unnatural and that gets a no thank you from me.

I wish I had the money for Lipo and botox. But I guess it's a bit different for me to talk about this because I'm sort of in the industry that makes people feel like they need to look better and just like everyone else. (I work in a clinic that does hair re-growth for baldies and botox).

I say ewwww.

If folks wanna go under the knife (or the syringe), that's their business. I, however, can't fathom being so unhappy with my looks that I feel the need to have people cut and inject me. No thanks! Pain = bad.

I'll let other people nip and tuck the years away until their faces are as big as moon pies, by I think I'll stick with my own features. I'm starting to get some wrinkles between my eyebrows and I don't have the first idea of how to go about covering them up or smoothing them out or anything... but I'm more content to learn to live with them than I am to try painful and expensive ways to get rid of them. I kind of think that folks who have plastic surgery are giving in to society's worst ideas about body image, anyway.

Yeah, when I first heard this, I thought she was just stupid, but after seeing the picture and reading about it I just feel sorry for her. Someone should have stopped her. It's such a shame.

^ The doctors did try to stop her; they refused to do more surgery. After that, she just went to some quack doctor who gave her her own supply and told her to inject herself (who does that?!?). When even that doctor cut off her supply is when she turned to cooking oil. In some ways, trying to stop her is what led to a pattern of escalation. I do feel sorry for her, though. It's kind of ironic that a woman who felt the compulsive need to beautify herself with surgery is now horribly disfigured as a result, but it's certainly not funny. Being horribly disfigured would be tough for anyone, but it's gotta be Hell for someone who was so insecure about her normal looks before this happened.

By the way... I like your banner and your animated thingie. "In just seven days, I can make you a ma-a-a-a-an." Hehe. I love me some Rocky Horror.

Now this is scary.

This guy is called Pete Burns and he's gone to the extreme with plastic surgery.

Feck that for a game of soldiers!

Well, I would undergo plastic surgery.
I'm going to have to anyway for medical reasons, but I would NEVER have stuff done to my face that I didn't need. Okay, maybe a nose job, but that's probably it. Who would actually inject stuff into their face?

I would never get plastic surgery, it seems like such a waste of money! But each to their own, I guess.

I've had cosmetic surgery, nothing major, don't want to say what it is though.

Personally, I'm looking forward to looking like an old lady, I can't wait. But, I can understand why people do it, it must be an insecurity thing, but people that keep going under the knife, especially girls getting boob jobs, it gets a little bit mental, surgery ain't going to make you feel better if it's psychological.

I have to say I have the same mentality that SpoonsAreCool said above- I'm not bothered about getting old and for some weird reason actually look forward to it. I don't know whether this is because the majority of my family was always in what was consider the Older Region as I was growing up and that's caused quite a healthy outlook on age, I don't know but it doesn't bother me. Certainly not enough to have plastic surgery. I mean there are some celebrities (yes, I can only say some and not "so many" sadly since many 50+ celebs seem to think they need to go under the knife) who have never had work done and look fabulous. 59-year-old Meryl Streep for example.

Like PV said about herself above, I'm getting not so much wrinkles as emphasis of lines that have always been there, but it doesn't bother me at all and yet there are people I know that from the first wrinkle popping start panicking. It's rather a worrying reaction actually. But like I said, I'm not bothered about getting older (Like Joanna Lumley when I was 16 I wanted to be 20, when I was 20 I wanted to be 30, when I'm 30 I'll want to be 40....just to see what it feels like and see which is better! haha) so my opinion currently is that I will never go under the knife.

This poor woman though! That is a serious addiction in the same way people are addicted to drugs, or gambling or alcohol....I think the doctors should have realized this and perhaps informed someone who could help her. I can't believe the doctor who gave her her own supplies though! Irresponsible much? This is a really tragic story though.

Oh, that's horrible. Poor woman. And she used to be very pretty! I don't know why she wanted to be prettier, maybe it was a BDD (Body dismorphic disorder), and then there's no way of stopping her apart from locking her up, because your body always looks horrible in your eyes if you have that. Or it was presure from the media, or what not. I feel sorry for her.
I wouldn't say no to cosmetic surgery myself, if I ahd the money. Simply because I'm not really comfortable with my body. But I am so well aware that that is in no way related to a solution. And I would never lend money to do it. I have no problem with getting older. The next twenty years or so are only gonna be loads of fun, and after that we'll see. I don't mind wrinkles. I would keep dying my hair though, both my parents are getting very dirtyish grey hair, and I want nice Saruman-like white or nothing ^^

Is it wrong that i found this extremely hilarious? Talk about the wrong thing to be addicted to! cooking oil? hahahahahahaahahaha.
Plastic surgery dosent bother me at all, if someone wants if, fair enough, they should do it. Who knows, maybe one day il want some, coz i wouldnt mind looking like Micheal Jackson.

For what I'd want to have changed about my body, I'd require the service of Willow, not a doctor. ^^ Besides, having my body sliced and sewn really isn't anything I'd be comfortable with... I've had two medically necessary OPs, and IMO that was certainly enough for a lifetime; I can well do without that pain, and I'd never go through it for mere cosmetic reasons! (Well, and being as overweight as I am, I don't have to worry much about getting lines anytime soon. Body fat is natural lifting from within. 😛 )

But seriously, I feel sorry for that woman. She should have had a good therapist, instead of some irresponsible quack providing her with stuff to operate on herself... honestly, I can hardly believe this. Hope that guy loses his approbation.
