I don't believe it but clicked on it anyway (giving in to temptation I tried to resist) as that would be so cool. (Well, I wonder and worry about how it would affect us gravity-wise.)

Not going to lie, I don't know if the source is reliable but I want to believe it. The only way to know it is to be awake at midnight the 27 july.

I'm pretty sure we'd already be seeing it now if it were really going to get that big. Probes would be launched, and people would be pushing for a manned probe (but I don't think it would happen).

Still, I don't claim to be any kind of expert on astrophysics (though a former partner of mine did major in that and I got a sense of how mind boggling the universe is), it's just that this sounds really unlikely and I'm sure I've seen stories like this before on the internet that don't pan out, a perennial favorite like a celebrity's death that didn't happen.

Jeez if Mars got as close to look like the size of the moon, we'd be in trouble. 😂

Last time I tried to catch Venus at a close orbit it was the foggiest morning we'd had all year. What a waste!

Mars is about twice the size of the moon so to look like it is the same size, it would be twice as far away. Not going to happen. If it did happen, a trip to mars would be easy to launch and no one talks about it getting any easier

So, sorry for the false news apparently. I'm an idiot, I'm so naive...

I think the story should have read that Mars will be nearly as 'Bright' as the Moon (And both will look red in the night sky) ;)
It’s tonight. Plenty of my friends believe it’s true. In France, many media have shared the info, so I want to believe it. Around Midnight I will look at the sky to see if something happens or not. I will take pics also 🙂

There was an eclipse this night, and Mars was ultra bright. I got up at 4am to watch it, left the pub early and everything. But we had cloud cover, so I missed the show. I could see Mars through the cloud cover but not the eclipse 🙁 So I went back to bed. I saw the last super blue blood moon eclipse and it was awesome fun. I have such a great view from my garden. I would love to go up the mountain on an eclipse night, but there are cliffs and I would probably fall off and cry.
