For those of you trying to save money, but can't bear to cut the TV time, Netflix is introducing a "Basic With Ads" service. It is $6.99/mo, vs. $9.99/mo and up for the non-ad version. However, $3/mo to have to watch ads doesn't seem like enough of a discount to me. How about add a few more ads, and make it free? Then they could change their name from Netflix to Network, since it would be just like those channels! 😛

This cheaper service will be available in the US, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico and Spain.

The biggest issue I’ve seen is that it’s 720p, so the resolution is going to be much worse
 
Curious, of that list by Stake fodder - states (pun intended tee hee) that the US is first on the list of the cheaper service.

Maybe because we're well known for our cheapness!
Rough meal plan for next week:

I've taken the gammon out of the freezer, so heavy in that this week

Monday/Tuesday carbonara
Wednesday ham egg chips or omelette and chips
Thursday depends on if I feel like more ham, portions will be frozen
Friday veg curry
Saturday veg burger and sweet potato fries

I expect to get 6-8 portions out of the gammon. I will easily get more than 2 from the carbonara, and will freeze extras.
 
I just saw a 475ml tub of Ben and Jerrys that costs £7.20 😬 this was the price for if you order it through deliveroo though so it's probably slightly cheaper from stores in person but still.

I hate ads more than anything. That's why I don't mind paying $11.99 a month for Youtube Premium. Totally worth it.

As for Netflix, when/if I go back to them, I'll have no problem paying more for no ads.

That is outrageous for ice-cream!

I put another grocery order in, lets see if they can manage to find a functional van. I'll be surprised if I get everything I ordered, last order they had run out of milk anyway. Bit scary when there isnt even enough milk to go round.

I got a $10 credit on my next order but its really not enough considering they couldn't refund the money for 3 days now and I had to drive to IGA and pay their ridiculous prices. I'm pissed but can only hope it doesn't happen again.

I checked to see if Woolies would deliver but they said I was too "remote" bahaha. Someone needs to run a truck from inland, they'd make a fortune!


I have vet bills coming up. Shire registration for animals is cheaper if they are desexed. There is a desexing voucher program through the RSPCA which I need to get organised to apply for. I also want to get pet insurance for Harmony as it has been worth it for Lilah so far, and we all know a pedigree dog will probably have more health issues!
 
What's that Octavia, Woolies won't deliver because you are to remote, oh I just thought that might be so if you live in Western Australia. The town I live in only has an IGA. The nearest other Supermarket is about 40km away. The prices here are going up weekly, soon the fresh fruit and vegies, and salad stuff'll be going up again because Eastern Australia is currently underwater. And the cost of water will go up as well.

The IGA is 40kms away, woolies is only 80 on the inland route! Coles is 100 to the coast. I better start growing salads!

Tesco has it for £3.50 with a clubcard currently. So half of that price! Normal Tesco price is £4.80.

Overspent again this month, and still have bills to pay. I know that it's been a bunch of little things I've bought, Christmas gifts etc, but it's all added up. Haven't yet used the credit card though and hopefully I'll manage to go the last two weeks without it.

I should really get a clubcard 🙃

I think Christmas gift shopping this year is feeling strange already- I saw this Barbie caravan toy set yesterday in Sainsburys and it said it was on sale from £100 to £50. I went in today and it had gone down to £30 which is a good thing but imagine someone bought that set yesterday for £50 and then they came in today and see it's going for £30; I would be annoyed if that were me.
 
I am so thankful I dont have to do Christmas anymore! Not just financially, it was so exhausting. Always too bloody hot too. I never have to do birthdays or Christmas ever again and its such a relief.

I'm gona sit under the air con all summer, so maybe I should be paying a bit in advance for power.
 
It sounds like a number of people in England and Australia should consider becoming Canadian. As I am saying this, I am finishing some Blueberry frozen yogurt and I have blueberry-maple ice cream in the freezer as well. The 2-litre frozen yogurt was on sale for CAD $3.99 and the 1.5-litre ice cream was on sale for CAD $2.99. I have been retired since 2008 and the combination of having social security and old age pension plus my daughter and son-in-law living here has worked out well and our economy is doing OK.
 
They wouldn't let me in Canada 🤣 too disabled, go directly to MAiD.

Ice-cream has gone up 75c here but I cant scoop it anymore anyway, so it lasts waaaay longer these days haha.

I just finished another session of trimming Harmonys hair back. Needs more work, but in buying my clippers (which I already had for Lilah) and doing it myself, I've saved on grooming costs. The clippers cost equivalent to one basic groom and I've used them almost a year now, for many grooms.
 
I wish I could cut my own hair, I only get it done about twice a year but every time it's gone up in price and that was the cheapest place in town,now they've closed, so it'll be even more when I eventually go again. I have tried trimming it myself, but I just don't have the coordination for it.

@Ethan Reigns Canada is too cold!
 
I like cutting my own hair! Always hated salons. I dont really care too much what it looks like as long as it can be tied up. It grows super fast anyway. And if I really stuff it up, oh well I can just shave it again. That saved a ton on shampoo!

Unlike the time @Octavia tried cutting hers with blunt scissors!
I'm just thankful I'm not in a style that needs doing all the time, my mother dyes her hair and she must spend a fortune on box dyes for it.
 
It used to be soooo socially unacceptable to cut your own hair, the first time I cut mine with those blunt scissors was liberating! My hair  is crazy thick, even the sharp scissors would have struggled with that pony tail haha. I hope it is now firmly on the head of a child in Michigan.
