What an awful decision. They should’ve just kept the going rate until the new one is decided upon. Then you pay the new one going forward.

Expecting retroactive pay for their own incompetence is just wrong. They had a year to get this together and clearly waited until the last minute. That’s not a tenant issue.

I take it you aren't in the US? There are laws here that prevent a retroactive rent increase.

What really blows about it is the fact that you can’t even switch providers. There’s literally one company that supplies power in an area, so better pay their monopolistic rates if you want to live. 🙄

I think it's greed too. I don't think it's because their operating costs have increased.
Yep, thats the case here with our water company...everyone is talking about the rising costs and fees but we have no choice but to use the company. It sucks.

Yeah, we're both in Sweden.

And to be fair, I don't think this is necessarily bad, it's mostly annoying. Handing over a stranded negotiation to a third party is reasonable to me. It's just unfortunate that said third party takes long to decide/handle the cases.
 
It would be interesting to see what would happen if someone moved out after the beginning of the year but before the new rates took effect. Would they move to collect the difference in new and old rent in court? Would any of this stand up in court? Does your contract allow for this?
 
Need to add new toaster to the March buying list. I was hoping to finish paying for my weekend away in March but it's not looking likely now.

I got a cool old vintage one that works great for only $8 at a thrift store.
I just cut my hair in the garden. I couldn't find the usual scissors so I used the smallest dog scissors. It was much more difficult! The sun kept catching on the silver scissors and blinding me, Harmony was always under my feet and Lilah was chasing the hair that came off. Its very hacked and not nearly as neat or short as I like. Oh well, at least its got a couple inches off. My neck was starting to hurt with the weight of it again. I'll neaten it up later if i can find the longer scissors.

Prices are still going up for groceries here. I got bakery bread on the weekend from IGA because it was cheap, but it was cheap because it was already 2 days old and so I ate half of the loaf over the weekend and gained 4 kilos! I dont want the weight gain of the rest but dont want to waste it either. I gotta add more protein in.

They sorta do via the low emissions zones and the ultra low emissions zones.

Do I do a big shop next month or not? I have to defrost my freezer, so not sure if I can get the order up to £40 without freezer foods
 
I've done an online shop, including a new toaster, all to be delivered on Sunday, I can make changes to it until Saturday night, so I'll go through and edit it once I get home and go through the cupboard to see what meals I plan this month. Also depends on what goes out of stock between now and when it arrives, several things I wanted went into the basket and by the time I'd finished the order were out of stock.
 
I have settled into a nice routine of a delivery on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. It seems to be the best days to get the fresh stuff in stock, as I know they restock on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It would be better if the minimum order was a bit lower, but it has proven easy to get up to $50. And then the delivery fee of $4 and bags that have just gone up to 25c each with no option of leaving them out!

The dog roll has gone up to almost $12! So I am glad I got enough at $6.40 in the freezer for now. Chicken breast has gone down in price to $10.50 a kilo, which is a decent price, down by $2 from last week. Bunny greens have not changed in price at all, and bunnies remain my most expensive pets ever to feed. The bunnies cost more to feed than my horses did.

Can someone please remind me to actually sit down and meal plan once my delivery arrives tomorrow afternoon. I plan to do mash tomorrow, with sausages and veg, and leftover mash for Monday and possibly Tuesday too. Probably won't do sausages everyday but will freeze those in portions.

I am hoping I dont have to buy any wood for this winter. I chopped a bunch of kindling this weekend in the hope that it will be dry enough to use by winter. I have two more trees I can trim back for kindling. I have about 2 ton of jarrah blocks left, so I want to stretch that as much as I can. My neighbour has a new chainsaw but I am not sure he will let me borrow it as he was so proud when he showed me haha. I can chop the kindling with what I have but if I want some little logs I will need a chainsaw to get them off the tree without killing it. His was about $300 but I am saving as much as I can for Harmonys leg op, so I'd rather not buy a chainsaw if I can help it. Harmony op will be around $3000 but its not urgent so can be delayed, although the longer it is delayed, the bigger risk of later arthritis for her.
 
I'm doing sausages, mash and veg too ...might throw in some burgers too as it's Sunday lunch . Did the mash and a savoy cabbage last night on the woodburner . Fancied some cauliflower too but there's a lot of cabbage to eat . Don't usually bother with savoy but they were the nicest green veg on the shelf at the supermarket.

Scored a white cabbage too , they're basically indestructible as veg go . Will do that with liver and mash next week .

Yep, but I've been too busy today to cook! So mash will have to wait until tomorrow now!

I can't spend any more money this month now, and we're not even a week in! Thankfully my food shop will keep me going all month, I'll just need bread, milk and probably some fruit.
I have made the most of the council tax free month, the amount I usually pay that I've used for the allotment instead, which will hopefully not need much more spent on it this year.
 
I got two takeaways on the weekend, which is just unheard of, but so is two days of me leaving the house lol. I was relieved not to have to cook.

Not doing lamb burgers in the air fryer again, too much fat to clean up! Chicken mince went ok in it last week and I knew lamb was more fatty, but that was a ridiculous mess and I am lucky it didnt catch fire!

I buy a pack of 50 mini sausage rolls for work lunches and they're now £1.55, were £1 when I started buying them. I put a handful in the airfryer in the morning before work. Adds something else into the work lunch rotation, in winter I'll often have pasta or soups as well, sometimes quiches. In summer I have more wraps and sandwiches.
