Cost of Living #7

I have been spending a lot on groceries over this season. There have been too many specials too good to pass up... I have an order coming tonight, and they are doing summer sundays, so I have one full of snacks on special coming tomorrow too if I want it (or if I forget to cancel the slot later tonight). They just dont always have this stuff available and rarely at these prices, so I am stocking up. But I doubt it will be as much stocking up, as stuffing my face.
 
We have been having a warmer winter, and I have been trying to keep the heat down to 60 and wearing sweaters. Today I got my electric bill and, compared to last December's bill, I found I saved a whole $2.93. 😐

I'm still sorting out my internet. So I did find a good deal, only for them to say we need to come and install our own cables, I live in a listed building and on the second floor, nope, not happening. Cancelled that, have also, with a little lie, cancelled by current provider before it went up. So from the 1st I'll have no internet, well wifi anyway.

My local library system has Hotspot units (mobile wifi) that you can check out for three weeks. Perhaps yours does, as well?
 
Internet, mostly, sorted, popped into the Vodafone shop on my way to work and let the guy there sort it out for me, will take 2 weeks, but it's done, roughly same price as now, and it's a 2 year deal.

So I'll have no wifi at home for 2 weeks, but still mobile data and work wifi. I'll cope!

@TamsinValencia the first week was hard, resisting going on Instagram but it's got easier.

I've booked my car in for mot. That's one I'm not looking forward to, as I can't see it passing with the error light flashing on the dash.

I booked a doctors appointment for next week. I have been putting it off for ages, but rang today thinking it would take months to get in anyway. Imagine my surprise when they said I could come in next week. I didnt even know they were in town next week. So thats going to be a fun bill. I dont want to go but I have a spot the same place my mum had skin cancer and I dont want it to eat my face.

Don't know about in England, but in the USA plenty of automotive parts shops (Autozone, O'Reilly, Advanced) will perform a free diagnostic and tell you what's causing the light. Depending on what it is, they might be able to clear it long enough to pass.*

*Often, the problem with having the light is that the actual inspection reading won't pull data at all, so you fail even though the light is for a reason that wouldn't cause a failure by itself.

The cheapest dozen eggs at my store are now $7! I thought the price might not go up as much as some places, because my state allows only cage-free eggs to be sold, so I thought bird flu might be less of a factor. They're still cheap for a protein, but I'm going to wait till I need some for a recipe.

It is such a shame that eggs cannot be frozen. Well, successfully frozen.
I often find side of the road stalls selling eggs are cheaper than stores, plus the eggs last longer.

However I know America wash their eggs too much and they don't last as long as they should. Fresh eggs can easily last a month or more before they have to be used up.

No road stalls in my city, but maybe I can sneak into the couple neighbors' backyards who have a couple chickens!

You're definitely being ripped off, I just got half a dozen duck eggs for £2.20, so roughly $5.40 for a dozen.

I've been doing the calculations of how many hours I get away without working, I should just be ok this month, but next month if I do the same as this month, I'll need an extra 10 hours. There's a week of school holidays next month so hopefully I'll get it then.
 
Nutella has been on special for three weeks. I rekon its about to jump up in price. But I cant stock up because I just end up eating it out of the jar with a spoon.

You can freeze Nutella! I would perhaps suggest freezing it in an ice cube tray, then emptying the frozen cubes into another container, such as a plastic bag.

How much you eat while putting it in the ice cube tray though......
 
And I'd have to eat stuff from the freezer to get it to fit!
Now Im thinking nutella and coffee icecream might be nice to try and make...

Oh I made banana bread yesterday in between engineer visits, and I was just at the lick the bowl part when he knocked, so had to resist it until he left.

I'm not looking forward to my electricity bill next month, after the constant kettle use of the last few days, plus I've used the heated airer a lot.

Okay, this is news to me! How long does it keep when frozen?
Not that I need to buy Nutella, but I'd like to know in future. You know, in the name of science...
