By the rules of the Buffyverse, could Anya be resurrected?

Here are the rules as described by Osiris in Villians when Tara dies.

WILLOW: Hear me! Keeper of darkness!

Suddenly some of the clouds form into a huge face. It speaks in a deep raspy voice. Lightning flashes around it.

DEMON: Witch! How dare you invoke Osiris in this task!
WILLOW: (crying) Please. Please, bring her back.
DEMON: You may not violate the laws of natural passing.
WILLOW: How? How is this natural?
DEMON: It is a human death, by human means.
WILLOW: But I-
DEMON: You raised one killed by mystical forces. This is not the same. She is taken by natural order. It is done.

Anya was killed by what was (as far as we know...) just a regular knife. Stab 'n' slice isn't very mystical. I don't think "mystical forces" covers mystical murderers- then Willow could have brought back all the victims of vampires and demons over the years. So, unless the knife was mystical and magical because of the Bringers, or the First, it looks to me like Anya couldn't be resurrected according to these rules. Aw 🙁

I guess by these rules, she can't resurrect her.

But I dare ya, Willow can defy this demon or this Osiris.

heehe yup, maybe now Willow's all goddess-like and she's more powerful than crappy old Osiris!

I don't know. I'm not as certain as you guys are.

Was Anya "killed by mystical forces"?

The Bringers were under the control of The First (a mystical force)

If the first had killed Anya itself with some sort of mystic power beam there would be no need for debate, right?

The First uses a different kind of weapon though. It uses the Bringers.

I don't remember Osiris saying it mattered what kind of weapon was used. He only seems to care what kind of force is doing the killing.

(BTW; not that it matters, but are Bringers classified as human? Buffy doesn't seem to mind killing them.)

realistically, no, she can't be resurrected because Emma has said she won't play her again. But in story, I don't think she could, because her death, while perpetrated by a supernatural being, wasn't done in a supernatural way. A person really could get sliced by a knife.

True, Osiris, or the Demon or whatever does say this concerning Tara's death:

DEMON: It is a human death, by human means
.

but it also says:

DEMON: You raised one killed by mystical forces. This is not the same. She is taken by natural order
.

I can't help thinking there's a case to made for the arguement Anya was killed by "mystical forces'', and she was not "taken by natural order".

Let me put it to you another way. Would you feel the writers were breaking their own rules, if for some crazy reason they did decide to resurrect Anya?

I wouldn't, but if they'd have Willow resurrect Tara they wouldn't either IMO. I think since Tara's death Willow has grown so much stronger that these rules do not apply to her anymore.

I wouldn't want Anya to be ressurected. It would ruin the whole point of her death. Since she became human, she has struggled with the concept of mortality, and she realized it when she died.

Yeah, sure she could be ressurected but she wouldnt be the same because if you remember Dawn resurected Joyce, but remember that she might not come back how you thought she would, so yeah she could be resurected but she most likely wouldnt be the same. But if there was that risk i wouldnt bring her back, i couldnt tear the photo make her go away again. I guess thats just me though?

The question is... did she really die... wasn't she all demony at the time?(me mind runs a blank) 😀 but it all happened so fast... who's to say she wasn't stunned... its all a little far fetched but who's to say she's dead... those shots of the 'corpse' could have been there to throw us off the scent... 😛

she was human at the time of her death. And even if you don't believe she was killed by the bringers, she was certainly dead after sunnydale was destroyed.

Nah Its just someone at work mentioned the fact that could could still be alive and kicking... could still make a movie out of that... god knows what uglys are lieing in the rubble
