Couple Patterns

It seems to me that there are kind of patterns with the couples people like on the Buffyverse. I could be insane, but I've noticed that...
Those who ship Bangel also ship Willow/Oz.
Those who ship Spuffy also ship Twillow.
Those who ship Briley also ship Willow/Kennedy.

I'm not saying it's the rule, just something that's been catching my attention for awhile now. Any theories?

I think maybe the Bangel and Willow/Oz supporters are more of the traditionalists? The first loves and all that.
And mayhaps the Spuffy/Twillow is for the more unorthodox? The hardcore, breaking houses and destroying the world kind of love.
As to that last pair of pairs... I can't fathom at all.

Huh. That is interesting....and I pretty much fit it too. I ship Spuffy and Twillow, though, to be honest, I didn't mind Willow with Oz either.

Yeah I stick to that rule. I prefer spuffy and tillow over the other couples mentioned.

I can't say I hardcore ship Spuffy. But I definitely prefer them as a couple over Bangel!

For me, at least, the romantic notion of an everlasting first love is what I love about the relationship between Buffy and Angel. That said, I can see good and bad qualities in all the relationsships you mention. Some of them are healthier than others, some of them are more classical than others, some of them don't quite have what we tend to look at as the qualities needed for a long term relationship ... But in the real world we don't always end up long term with the person whom we seem to have the the sparkly, till-death-do-us-part kind of chemistry.

I'm mainly Spuffy and Cangle. I have no problems with Twillow (but i'm not hoping she'll come back from the dead or anything like that and I also quite liked Woz) I wouldn't class myself as a traditional romantic so that part fits perfectly.

I've never really been a strong supporter of one relationship over another. Although I did think Bangel had a bit more chemistry than Spuffy and Killow is just wrong in so many ways.

I think your right though. Bangel and Woz are very similar relationship styles. And now you mention it - though I'd never have said so before - there are certain similarities between Spuffy and Tillow.

An interesting X factor that TK raised is Cangel though. Cangel is, quite clearly, nothing like Spuffy. It's not even that similar to Tillow. Yet, the people who ship it tend to also prefer Tillow to Woz, and Spuffy to Bangel. (Well, I suppose the Spuffy thing is by default, seeing as Angel's taken. And I've noticed that does thend to be the weaker link).

But anyway, this is all hypothetical cause we all know that Langel is the one true ship. Oh, allright, I'll go sit in the corner on my own again...

I watched AtS the entire way through recently and I can definitely see some chemistry between Angel and Lindsey. I loved it when Angel said "I want you" to Lindsey. And when Lindsey makes the joke about his 'sword' getting bigger for Angel. I think Lindsey definitely had a crush on Angel. Whether Angel reciprocated or not is another matter.

But, then again Angel has always seemed a little... repressed.

i use to be all for Spuffy a few years ago, then suddenly changed my mind to Bangel.
Probably because Buffy never loved Spike at all.
it's weird to be honest.

and i do like Tillow but i prefer Woz.

Well, I am an Willow/Oz "shipper" but I love Willow/Tara as well but I can't stand Buffy/Angel and don't particularly like Buffy/Spike either. I don't have much love for Angel/Cordelia but I prefer it over Buffy/Angel. You can make of that what you like and probably come to the conclusion that I'm more invested in Willow's relationships or like her love interests better than Buffy's (which I do.) x)

Also, I don't get this mushing together of names when talking about "shipping", I had to stop a lot and think for a moment who you're talking about while reading this thread.

I prefer Spuffy, but Spaith really has possibilities. (Fuffy, I have no comment on). Willow is fine with either Oz or Tara. Unfortunately, a relationship referred to as "Woz" just seems doomed from the start.

It's Tillow. But definitely, check. 😀

I think Bangel is more strongly romantic (which is the main reason for me to dislike it, I'm ) than any of the other ships. I do think the "romanticists" tend to overlap with the "traditionalists", so your theory might still hold water. 🙂

And while I'd most certainly rate myself as "unorthodox", I doubt that's what makes me like Tillow. I suppose it's more whom I can (and want to) relate to most... and while Spike, (Dark)Willow and Angel all reverberate with my own darkside, I despise the Bangel way to deal with it (been there, done that).
