Couple Patterns

I fit into your pattern! 🙂

For me though, I think it's because the first three seasons are my favourites; well I prefer the 'high school years', over the 'grown up years'.

I had a similar type theory in one of the Bangel/Spuffy threads about it being who you 'see' first that stays with you.

I also think it has a lot to do with your own ideals about love and relationships. Well, I can say that for me at least. Both Buffy/Angel and Willow/Oz encompass what love and a relationship is for me personally.

And as much as I'm largely indifferent to Xander's love life, I think I liked him with Cordelia over Anya. And that, I put down to liking the earlier seasons better, largely because I don't really have any other reason, it's just a preference.

I like Cordy/Xander better than Anya/Xander too.
I guess I fit the pattern of sort of weirdish shipping. My 2 favourite ships are Cangel and Weslah...what do you make of that? 😛

I don't like Tillow, kinda like Spuffy, didn't like Woz, accept Bangel but with no real love for it and felt sort of positive about Briley. Don't really have an opinion on Willow/Kennedy.

So...I seem to not really fit anywhere...oh yeah, I'm so un-mainstream 😎

Wait, what?

My love-life is DOOMED! Abandon ship! Langel sucks, go team Bangel!!!!

LMAO!
I'm not sure if I fit into the Pattern or not, but I'm a Buffy/Angel shipper foremost (*does a dance of bangel shipper pride* 😉), and then from there I prefer Willow/Tara. I like Willow/Oz and all, but I think that she fell for Tara in a totally different way and that they just fit together better. Maybe too, it's because I'm gay and dating a girl named Tara: maybe that makes me unintentionally biased on some level :silly:

Like white avenger I always thought that Spike/Faith had some solid possibilities and could go somewhere. And although I used to be indifferent about Xander's love life, I find myself very much hoping that he and Dawn get together in Season 8 😀

You bring up a very interesting point though, Flannen: about what ships we like being influenced by our own ideas on love and RL relationships. I've never really given it much thought, but maybe you're very correct-- it certainly makes me wonder anyway!

That's a sweet bias.

Me, correct? Stranger things have happened I suppose! Oh and GO BANGEL karma :D

I love your banner!
Well if we're going with the theory of being influenced by things in real life then I'm deeply concerned about my recent shipping of Spangel!

I like Spuffy, but to be honest only because Spike loves Buffy. And my second favorite is Angel/Faith

Until I came here, I'd probably have thought that shippers were people commanding ships. I've said this before, but I'll say it again: I just don't get exclusive shipping. Present an even remotely well thought relationship based on romance, lust, mutual despair or just plain old convenience, and you'll probably find me willing to see both positive and negative sides to it. While Buffy with Angel is a favourite of mine (for reasons to be explored further down this post), I wept when Riley went away (after several episodes of wanting to talk some sense into both him and Buffy and later grew extremely fond of the supportive role Spike grew into. (And then, of course, came "Seeing Red".)

As for Willow, I loved seeing her both with Oz and with Tara. I can see no reason why she couldn't love Oz genuinely first, then love Tara just as honestly. While I know that some place a lot of weight on the "gay now"-comment, feeling that it retracts from the relationship Willow shared with Oz, I just think it tells us about her identification with being gay. I may be reading a bit too much of my own experiences into Willow just now, but high school and early college Willow strikes me as a young woman very much in search of a group to identify with. That's not uncommon for someone who's been used to being one of a kind. The magical work (including the way she dismissed the company of the wicca wannabes at the college) and her relationship with Tara, greatly shaped how Willow looked at herself. But how we look at ourselves is not the only truth about us. Kennedy "¦ It's no secret that I'm fond of her. Her attitude matches the kind of girl I used to pretend to be when my younger step sister and I played make-believe way back when. Kennedy started out as quite the classical rebound lover, but it's not unheard of that such a relationship grows into more than an acceptably pleasant way of passing time. Besides, it's nice to see a romantic relation that (as of now) hasn't ended in tears, rage and disaster.

Xander "¦ Realistically I don't think his high school romance with Cordelia could ever have lasted into adulthood. He had too many qualms about his unfortunate background to ever be able to let his guard down completely. I think they would have to go a long, long way before he could look at Cordy as an equal partner in life rather than Queen C. I'd much rather have seen him capable of handling the challenges in a marriage with Anya.

But then again. We have followed the Scooby gang through their youth and young adulthood. If I pick any three random persons in here who are older than 25, how many are still happily together with a partner you met in your late teens or early twenties? It's not all that common. So perhaps the fact that the only relations we haven't seen ending are the two that came into existence in season 7. (Killow and Fobin, if you insist. I quite agree with you, Mumrik.)

Don't ask me about Angel's relationships, btw. At least not yet. I haven't watched "Angel", so to me his heart belongs to Buffy. (Actually, I started out following "Angel" through the transcripts on Psyche's pages, way back when it first aired, but when those pages went down and the realities of life as a working woman hit me, I stopped.)

Oh. My weak spot for seeing Buffy with Angel. Well, it goes sixteen years back, to when I fell in love for the very first time. I didn't fall in love so much as I tumpbled in love, senselessly and head first. It couldn't, and didn't, work out in the end, neither of us could give what the other one needed, yet those six months of wanting, four months of having and a longer time than I want to admit mourning what I'd never really had left a lasting impression. When I watch Buffy and Angel interact, it's a more sweet than bitter little visit into my sixteen year old mind.

Karma for a good post.

Great post! Though Faith/Robin did end. Faith referred to him as her ex back in No Future For You.
I rooted for Oz & Willow and Spike & Buffy. Xanya is #1 though!

I'm an odd one, I am. I don't follow the pattern.

Spillyria 😉 Never thought of it before, but those videos are kind of getting me hooked.

Spillyria is great. ;)
haha, that's interesting! I definitely love Bangel & Oz/Willow to death but I have to say I'm also a fan of Tillow.

I love Bangle and Willow/Oz. And I prefer spuffy over briley and Tillow over Willow Kennedy. Briley and Wil/Ken are .... annoying in comparison to the others. So your theory applies to me.

It is very interesting

I'm not sure if I fit into the Pattern or not, but I'm a Buffy/Angel shipper foremo

Yo, I'ma let you finish, but Spike and Buffy are one of the best couples of all time!

I know im late too but i just had to karma this. Too funny.
I prefer Bangel over Spuffy, but for Willow's relationships I view them all differently as she grows and her character develops over the duration of the series, it makes sense for the relationships to change, and I don't mean her sexual orientation.
I like Xanya as much as I like Fresley, which is a lot, but I guess I am a traditionalist and do have a soft spot for Xander and Cordy.

I value each relationship for what it is. Spuffy wouldn't have worked seasons 1-3, just as Cangel wouldn't have worked seasons 1-3 etc. Just as each relationship a "real" person has shapes them and then they learn from it, that happens in Buffy. Even the relationships I don't like (e.g. the brief Xander/Willow fling) shape them further and change the rest of how they view whatever (i.e. Xander would still be with Cordy therefore not with Anya etc).

Ima gonna stop rambling now.

I'm a Cander(Cordy and Xander), Dangel, a Spuffy, Tillow, and Xanya. Bangel, okay when they first got together but can't stand them after that, Fresley I adore! Cangel I really like! Freslah is awesome, Spike and Dru are cute, and Willow and Oz are good! I don't like Briley and Killow.
