Who do you think would have made a great couple but it was never explored?

I always thought Gunn and Anne would have been great together. They had chemistry, and I could have seen him excelling at helping her run the homeless youth shelter.

What do you think? What ship never sailed that should have?

Angel and Kate for sure! Angel has a type, and Kate fits the bill. I would have preferred that over Nina.

I too wish Angel and Cordy had a real chance...but sadly, fate had other ideas...

Willow and Wesley would have been interesting. They're both smart, and could have challenged eachother.

I don't like the idea of Spike and Fred. What they had was a real friendship, which I loved. Besides, as a ride or die Spuffy, I am contractually obligated to say he isn't allowed to be with anyone but Buffy.

Ninas problem was casting. The Actress was dating one of the writers at the time which got her the job even though she was terrible.
The actual character was interesting and you put a semi decent Actress in there it could work

Interesting. I didn't know that.
This one is always fun to think about! Off the top of my head:

-Faith and Gunn
-Spike and Fred - they had the sweet friendship and Spike had a clean slate, they would've been cute together. Perhaps not a long-term union, who knows.
-I could see potential in Willow and Riley
-Willow and Anya
-And I'll always say Spike and Willow, I love me some Spillow!

Special mention to Spike and Faith - absolutely sizzling chemistry, but they would've been a fling.

Faith and Gunn! YES! And Faith and Spike would have definitely had a good fling. I think they both wanted to tbh but didnt want to make Buffy mad.
Second Buffy and Faith. Buffy and Tara would also have been interesting. Spike and Anya. Would have loved to see both Buffy and Spike move on, especially after the events of Something Red. Not saying they didn't have chemistry, and around Season 5 I'm almost rooting for them, but they way they treat each other in Season 6 just ruins that ship for me. Angel and Cordelia. Could half see Willow and Anya in Season 7 if it had been handled right, focusing on each character's vulnerability and brokenness.

I hated Seeing Red. What made Spuffy fun was the Han Solo/Princess Leia esq chemistry.
I mean they ditched it anyway for the depression bad boyfriend stuff in S6 anyway but after the AR you were never gonna see kissing or affection again because as Joss out right states on the DVD Commentary He wasn't doing Sam and Diane on Cheers. Now I get that you couldn't do it but that took away all the fun from it.
Post automatically merged:

I never got in the whole Buffy and Faith wagon. I could def see the lesbian subject for sure though.
It's just impossible for me to ship Buffy with anyone but Spike.

The writers definitely had fun and played with the Lesbian subtext but nothing overt. I personally wished they'd gone all the way.

On the Restless DVD Commentary Joss mentions but doesn't name a Giles/Buffy shipper on the writing staff. Now that would've been interesting.

Giles and Buffy? Oh hell NO.
Spike and Fred or Spike and Joyce, the only two women after Dru that Spike actually gave a damn about as people.

Giles and Joyce. Even though they technically had a relationship. Twice.

Spike and Illyria would be for the comic relief of Spike being treated as Illyria's chew toy.

Buffy and Faith, because Buffy has terrible taste in men.

-Willow and Anya

It turns out I like this... for reasons having absolutely nothing to do with the show, even though it makes sense.

I hated Seeing Red. What made Spuffy fun was the Han Solo/Princess Leia esq chemistry.

That only existed in people's imaginations.

Whilst I personally can't picture Joyce and Spike (though have come across some fic!), Spike clearly showed affection and respect to those two.

Giles and Joyce. Even though they technically had a relationship. Twice.

I was actually going to put them in a 'special mentions'. I wonder what things would've been like if they allowed them to develop a relationship, maybe from s4 onwards.

Spike and Illyria would be for the comic relief of Spike being treated as Illyria's chew toy.

"I'd like to keep Spike as my pet"

It does. Their scenes in s7 clearly made that idea take shape!

I did initially jot down Willow and Faith but then thought about it a little more - I think their personalities might clash a bit, but they'd be good as friends. Two formerly evil people, now on the path to good - we missed out during s7!

Th issue with Joyce/Giles is I think Joyce somewhat resented Giles for being her Watcher, and felt he was somehow responsible for putting her in danger.
My Top Ten......(noShip)

Willow and Anya interesting
Willow and Riley mweh
Parker and Pre-Chip Spike hmm
Angel and Faith yes!
Buffy and Xander (The Original Designated Love Interest) nope
Cordy and Oz hmmm

Yeah, I can't se Xander and Buffy at all. He's her best friend.
Wesley and Fred, a ship that exists ONLY in fandom. Even though the ship never existed in canon, most of the fandom seems to love it. So it definitely qualifies as a fan fantasy ship. This "nonship" is one of those ships like some popular songs (Bruce Springsteen's uber liberal anthem Born in the USA) that in reality is totally different from fantasy. People hear what they want, not what is there. Like Wes, they ignore the 6'3" man in the room and Fred's actual partner for years.

Fact: Wesley was obsessed with Fred and kissed her *once*. For the rest of the series, he obsessed about her and even allows his real girlfriend cosplay as Fred in bed, though it is clearly painful for her.

Regarding Buffy/Faith

Buffy does not read as lesbian. She does not read as bisexual. Faith in season 3 was broken ebough to sleep with anyone that gave her attention. She does not read lesbian either. Bisexual, maybe, but more situationally flexible than truly drawn to women.

In spite of her show of uber confident machisma telling big stories about fighting alligators, she was scared and i think she initially hero worshipped Buffy though she was more envious of Buffy and of her life than anything.

By the time she goes to work for the mayor she is angry, hurt and afraid. She is totally alone. I think she was more wanting to kill Buffy than kiss her.

Yes during their fight there was camera chemistry. They *are* pretty together.

There were moments where i think they really 'got' each other, especially in the last season when they basically both carried the world. Faith knew that if Buffy was gone, it all would fall on her. That was when i think they became comrades and sisters in the fight - and even friends.

Faith did not steal Buffy's authority, Buffy gave it to her on that porch; asked her to lead.

Then Faith got clobbered and Buffy was there with her.

Then they were "The chosen two" the only slayers chosen when their predecessor died.

I see respect, friendship and even love. I do not see romance.

It would have been cute, the chosen two, equal, powerful, choosing each other, but sadly, i cannot feel it.

I have read well crafted fics though...😚😉

Spike and Giles. 😀

Hey, I can make a good argument for it in S4!

Of course, that's the problem with Spike (and probably Faith too, though perhaps not quite as much), based on chemistry alone, you can make a good argument for him with anyone he has screen time with.

I can see this one. They share far more than just chemistry. Common ground. Two educated, gentle men (in life, william was). They were well bred, well read Englishmen who treasured culture. In later seasons, they were fighting the same fight. I could easily see a Spike in love with Giles enough to change for Giles. It is how Spike was wired.

And they both have a strength to them that has nothing to do with raw brawn. Ripper is truly a force to be reckoned with. Spike would have done anything for Dru, for Buffy, for Dawn. He almost died for Dru and Dawn and died for Buffy (and the planet).

Do not hurt people they love.

In canon Giles was bisexual - his orgies with Ethan and all the men they hung out with - and just one woman *and* his obvious past with Ethan. (Confirmed by Joss) In canon Spike is at minimum sexually adventurous and it is canon he slept with Angel, Darla & Dru. So sexuality is not an issue.

Plus their music tastes! Both looked to have big influences from the 70s, and no, not disco! :D

Joss also confirmed that Angel and Spike slept with each other
I always wish we had gotten to see Buffy and Faith together. The subtext was definitely there, and I think if Buffy was going to explore her sexuality it should have been with Faith.

I wish we'd gotten to see Wesley and Fred together, as well, and Angel and Cordy. What was hinted at was so sweet and I think both of those couples could have been incredible.

I also think Gunn and Anne could have been cute together, and it would have been nice to see Anne finally "following" a good man, for once.

Yes, I'm so team Gunn/Anne.
There are likely others than what I'll mention here that would be interesting to me, but these are off the top of my head.

1. Xander & Willow

Maybe this is a hot take, but I always thought this was a couple I would have liked to have seen explored in season three. I love the arc the way it went, but I have a strong curiosity as to what shape that might have taken. I think, as best friends who love each other more than anyone (nobody messes with my Willow), they were well suited for each other, complimentary to each other's personalities, strengths and weaknesses. That said, I don't think this should have been a permanent relationship. It would have been a nice one, though.

2. Gunn & Anne

I agree with you here, Britt and Joanie. They had chemistry, they understood each other, and they both have history that gives them a unique perspective on the youth runaways topic.

3. Kate & Angel

There were definitely feelings between these two, and it would have been nice if, in season four, they had found their way to being friends, and then perhaps something more. Obviously, it wouldn't have been a lifelong (or series long) relationship, but it could have been nice for awhile. Unfortunately, Elisabeth Rohm got cast on Law & Order, and whatever the plans were for Kate, they did not come to fruition as a result.

4. Cordelia & Angel

Post Doyle's death, as Cordelia began to mature, there was definitely potential here, and the show obviously toyed with the idea, as we can see. It would have been an interesting relationship to witness.

5. Fred & Wes

Though we did see them get together, we never saw the relationship in a real way. I know not everyone sees this as a legitimate relationship, but I think they had great chemistry, a lot in common, and they obviously loved each other.

Agree on all counts!
Faith & Gunn (even though Gunn & Anne would be great too OP, not to mention Gwen)

Angel & Cordelia - was explored on a low level but I always liked their chemistry (on his show anyway) more than the melodrama of Buffy & Angel

Andrew & Scott Hope- maybe then Andrew would stop being Warrens b!tch or drooling over Spike

Darla & Drusilla- I mean *come on*! this would be 100x more epic than Buffy & Faith & the subtext is so much deeper, richer and more scandalous. Would love to see Darla & Dru together back in the days just on their own w/o Spike & Angelus.

Spike & Sunday - Spike & Harmony are hilarious together but somehow would've loved to see Sunday last longer (a little bit anyway) and maybe work with Spike after he decides to upgrade his blonde baddie vamp girl -- both Spike & Sunday felt like they were surrounded by idiots

Giles & Joyce - for real...though I kind of like how they didn't go there especially after he lost Jenny to begin with

Wesley & Fred- but he's too dense and timid (even in his rougher, darker later years) to pour his heart out to her or even take her obvious advances in s5 ...until it was pretty much too late

Buffy & Owen - they were cute together and eventually her closest friends were an integral part of her fighting evil (which is what she wanted to keep Owen away from...even though she agreed to let Willow & Xander help/work with her). He would've been great at research since he's a bookworm- Giles would love him; Owen the watcher in training. He lived for the excitement and action too. They could've had him last a bit longer in s1 anyway and maybe even into s2, have Owen comfort Buffy after Angel breaker her heart and then Angelus kill him to hurt Buffy even more.
