The Slayer's advantage against a powerful demon—having super-awesome friends—may be her undoing as Archaeus pits Spike and Angel against one another.

I do like the first one, even if Angel's face looks a bit strange. Lovely colouring.
The second one just makes me glad I'm not reading them frankly.

It's perfect! I know, I know, it's just a cover, should not get too excited but just...just look. The contrast between the looks on their faces, the cross, that cross - pretty much leaves no room for interpretation. I love it! It's what I've been waiting for, for Buffy to get real, you know. The other one - it's OK, I guess? Buffy's kinda too old to re-enact a scene from some teen fantasy vampire erotica garbage but oh well.

I have no idea why, but as soon as I saw that second cover, I got an image of the chariot race in "Ben Hur," and Massala, the Roman bad guy who drove the black horses and got dragged to death. Maybe it's a vision of impending doom for Buffy.

But how is this 'getting real'? She is in a relationship with a vampire still, again and more. That's not getting real. That's Buffy still being an immature idiot. There is no future in a realtionship with a vampire.

I don't know.. from that first image it looks like she is leaving Angel behind for some hunky Southwest Airlines pilot. Ding. She is now free to move about the country.

I don't know, maybe I'm getting soft but it's just hard for me to judge - Buffy seems happy so I'm happy too. And also - define future. Buffy's a slayer, it's not like the whole have 1.5 kids/grow old together is even an option. What's important to me is that she knows what she wants - that's the real. I don't expect another cookie dough speech, another Angel maybe...in the future crap - no, this looks way too definite. You know what I mean? Buffy's still Buffy - not Bella anymore though.

Granted I'm not the best judge because I don't actually read these comics. But thinking about how Buffy got there...did any of it even seem real? Willow and Dawn telling her to give it a shot (wtf for me), Buffy waxing poetic about how harmless soulles Spike was, the timing (Spike says he wants to move on so Buffy jumps him), Xander talking about Buffy's relationships during his therapy session (huh?) and Buffy's relationship history being retconned into 'unattainable'. Is she really happy? Or is she just offered on a platter for Spike fanservice? Because this all sounds like the worst kind of fanfic for me.

And also - define future. Buffy's a slayer, it's not like the whole have 1.5 kids/grow old together is even an option.
Why not? Have you noticed that no one really stays dead? I mean all the comics (IDW&DH) have seen so many resurrections that it's like the newest fashion trend. Everyone does it. And even if they kill Buffy off at the end I'm not going to believe it's permanent this time. Also is Buffy even doing anything of worth? Killing monsters in one place sure. So why not settle down there. Not like she is out there saving the world these days (if she is feel free to correct me). Of course if kids/family/husband/etc. is not what she wants then ok. But I have yet to see this adressed at all.

Please Buffy changes her mind every freaking Season. She goes for whatever she's in the mood for. Girl's fickle. It always looks like she knows what she wants...until she changes her mind. No she is not Bella, she is the Laura to Spike's Luke.

Well, that might be a bit of a problem, don't you think? ( ;`ヘ´) OK, I'll play ball :]

She seems happy: Here's a line:

Buffy: And he does make me happy. He really cares about me. I like who I am when I'm with him. I like who we are together.

Also, Xander did not talk about Buffy's relationships with his therapist, Willow's and Dawn's ( mostly Dawn's, Willow says, like, one line ) part made sense in the context of the scene/season and in my opinion, there's no retcon whatsoever here.

Of course if kids/family/husband/etc. is not what she wants then ok. But I have yet to see this adressed at all.

It was addressed quite extensively in season 9, like, half of the bloody season extensively. Basically, Buffy wants to be the slayer. Full time. Full stop.

Not like she is out there saving the world these days (if she is feel free to correct me).

Kinda? Scoobies averted the latest apocalypse in the finale of season 9 and...yeah, well, OK, it was mostly Willow who did the averting. But credit where credit is due - Buffy did help.

I can't agree with that.

So she has to become a retard to be happy? Because I remember a rather long post of yours (complete with moving pictures) where you just could not believe that Buffy of all people would say soulles Spike 'wasn't so bad'. Among other things.

Also, Xander did not talk about Buffy's relationships with his therapist, Willow's and Dawn's ( mostly Dawn's, Willow says, like, one line ) part made sense in the context of the scene/season and in my opinion, there's no retcon whatsoever here.
The retcon for me was the 'unattainable' part. Buffy would have never been with Angel or Riley if they were unattainable. Because she very much was with them so they were plenty attainable.

Then why is she staying in one town? Why is she not traveling the world fighting evil? Why is she bothering with friends and family? Why bother with romance? It's one or the other but it can't be both. Slayer means out there protecting the world. She's just protecting one place. That's not a slayer. But I guess it's up to Faith to travel the world.

I can't agree with that.
The beauty of all of us seeing things differently. But Joss was the first one to bring up Luke and Laura (I think it was Joss anyway) and it seems to fit well enough. And considering Buffy's words in S8 that she said to Angel she was either lying or just telling her flavor of the moment what she thought they wanted to hear to get what she wanted. Fickle that girl. And a user.

Buffy was always a retard. She's been spewing this double morality illogic since season 2 with the whole it's not Angel who's running around, murdering people but I can't slay him 'cause it's Angel nonsense. It's not new. It still pisses me off because she's 10 to 15 years older now. She should know better now. Alas, no, Buffy is still a retard and...I still love her ;_;

The retcon for me was the 'unattainable' part. Buffy would have never been with Angel or Riley if they were unattainable. Because she very much was with them so they were plenty attainable.

The unattainable line is a throwback to her conversation with Spike:

Buffy: Oh, please. We were never close. You just wanted me because I was unattainable.
Spike: You think that's all that was?
Buffy: Please, let's not go over the past.
Spike: Oh, no. Hold on here. I've hummed along to your pity ditty and I think I should have the mike for a bit.
Buffy: Fine. The stage is yours. Cheer me up.
Spike: You're insufferable.
Buffy: Thank you. That really helped.
Spike: I'm not trying to cheer you up.
Buffy: Then what are you trying to say?
Spike: I don't know! I'll know when I'm done saying it. Something pissed me off and I just? unattainable! That's it.
Buffy: Fine. I'm attainable. I'm an attain-athon. Can I please just go to sleep?

More importantly, here's what Buffy says about her relationships in season 7:

Buffy:
My parents weren't exactly the paragon of stay-togetherey-ness. Maybe that's part of it. I think there're people out there who'd make it. I just target the impossible ones with deadly accuracy.
Holden: You think you do that on purpose? Maybe you're trying to protect yourself?
Buffy: Protecting myself? From heartbreak, misery, sexual violence, and possible death? Not so much.
Holden: From committing.
Buffy: I commit. I'm committed. I'm a committee.
Holden: So it's them? You're reaching out, they're just not coming through?
Buffy: It's different. I think you're confusing me because you're evil.

You may not like it, you may disagree with it but how can it be retcon if it's already in the script? The writers did not suddenly come up with it in season 10, regardless of whether it's true or not, it's a sentiment Buffy herself expresses in the TV series.

Then why is she staying in one town?

'Cause she protects the book - it doesn't matter where she is, the evil will come to her.

Fickle that girl. And a user.

Yeah, I admit, I change my mind all the time. Do you know who doesn't change their mind, like, ever? A cow. You don't think I'm a cow, do you? :] It's EVIL UU, not EVIL MOO.

Bangel is finally dead, it will probably be further retconned to not being real in the first place, and now Buffy is free to fly away and get with the man who was just as bad, but paid more attention to her than her daddy and stuff, so all's well that ends well.

If I look at these comics as just being brutal satire about crappy Spuffy fanfics, they become more brilliant than they could possibly be otherwise.

"Crappy Spuffy fanfics", "retcon", "out of character" "fan service", words we all will read a lot, it seems.

XANDER

Maybe not, but I'll tell you this:

People don't fall in love with what's right in front of them. People want the dream. What they can't have. The more unattainable, the more attractive.

Buffy reacts. This notion strikes a chord -- actually with all three of them.

Yeah well it's blatantly obvious. Has been since the last Seasons of the show.

Of course she does. Xander is the one who says it while looking at her. And Buffy knows he has the hots for her. Awkward. Had nothing to do with Buffy and someone unattainable to her.
