Covers for BTVS S10 Issue #19

Another thing: Hank appears in the same issue that old Giles is back; Buffy's two fathers... Will Hank be a disappointment (yet once more), like Faith's father? Faith fell for the “loving dad” thing pretty hard, only to have her heart crushed.

On one hand they've written Buffy as over-the-top angry towards him, which would suggest a 'cut him some slack, your dad's not unfavorable to a soulless killer' storyline. On the other, we have Xander telling her not to fall for anything and Xander so far is been The Real Advice Giver. Faith's deal was over an arc. This is just one issue. If I had to take a hunch, it'll be she tells him not to bother her anymore and she doesn't need a dad.

LOL, Buffy hiding behind Xander is adorable! She always had a problem with seeing Giles as anything but a fuddy duddy old man - if only she knew who he was texting and why. Hee.

i guess i dont understand why people hate on the idea of kid giles- i think of it as a sort of rebranding/repurposing of his character. from the end of the tv series, hes exhausted the role as father figure and teacher to the scoobies, which made sense why he was mostly associated with faith in season 8 (if i recall correctly). although i have yet to read s10 aside from previews, i think its funny watching giles struggle with being giles and not giles at the same time.

He's not a dog! Dogs are loyal and they care!!!! 😀

Not really a dog person, sorry.

The funny kinda got old fast. So Giles is a kid. And horny. Oh. OK. You know what I mean? That and there seems to be no point to his pseudo-adolescence.

I think you nailed it. Maybe we have different reasons to think that, I don't know, but I do agree that Giles needed rebranding and repositioning, like it happens in advertising... and after the experience of being a kid again, he certainly will/would be a new person when he returns to his old age.

It's how you view it, I guess. I don't see it as rebranding and once he's an adult again, I don't think he'll be different. Whedon killed him because he was no longer relevant to the core cast. His death was a motivation for Angel. He was brought back a kid 'cause Joss thought it was funny. And it's not. Heh, heh, breasts. Hormones. 'Cause a little bit of extra testosterone is going to outweigh years of life and experiences... for some reason. It just seems like a schtick and a reason to have him around.

Thing is, there's no reason he can't exist off-screen, live his life and pop in now and again.
