Covers for Issue 40 **Spoilers***

I don't think it's as simple as ALL magic being gone, we already know there are still slayers that get their powers but they aren't called to actually use it (according to the Fray comic)

^ I always read it in that no Slayer was called and nobody got the powers either, until Mel came along. But it has been a time since I've read Fray, so I could be wrong on that one.

I think it depends on what you think the word 'Called' refers to.

I think being called is when the the active slayer actual fights as the slayer.

The line from the comic is:
Urkon
I do not know if she lived, but the demons being gone, she was the last to be called...

The line continued...There were girls with the power, but they were never called, never trained....

That to me sounds like girls were activated, so they had the physical strength, but they were never called to act as the slayer.

The first one to be called is Fray, she's 'called' by Urkon.

In Issue 3 of "Fray," the demon tells Fray that the Slayers "had the power, but were never Called." I think that what he's saying in that there was a long line of Potentials, since that's what a Slayer is until she is actually Called (remember, at the time that the "Fray" miniseries was written, Joss hadn't come up with the idea of pre-Slayers being called Potentials.) and in one of Buffy's many speeches in Season 7, she assures the Potentials that their power was "there, just the same." just as hers and Faith's were. Also, in the scene in "Chosen," when all of the Potentials around the world were activated, we saw the sudden change as their powers manifested. Throughout the entire series, it has been established that, before Calling, the Potential is, for all intents and purposes, just a normal human girl. All of their powers are locked up, waiting for the Calling to magically release them. Therefore, no magic, no Calling. No Calling, no Slayer.

It's sort of like "power perceived" versus "power achieved." The Power can be, using the proper means, perceived in Potentials, and that was how the Watchers, and the First Evil, could locate then. Calling the Slayer only activates what she already has, converting it to "power achieved."

Sorry, but I don't think these are real. With all the insanity that happened when the covers were released showing Angel as Twilight, I just don't think Darkhorse would let this happen again. These covers aren't on Darkhorse's site or TFAW, and the Chen cover for 39 is still top secret.

Also consider that there isn't much detail on the Jeanty cover. Pair that with the fact that Chen's cover is almost identical to the one from issue 1, and you realize that it isn't hard to imagine that these covers were produced specifically to be leaked. It's clear that their production would have taken a fraction of the time of usual covers to create. Not only that, but wouldn't it work out nicely for Darkhorse if they actually released fake covers that everybody thinks are real months after everybody thought that the real covers they released were fake and turned out to be actually real?

Also, I hope Dawn dies.

I don't know, I can't remember that speech, (Although she did make so many) I remember her saying to Faith "They're potential slayers, just like we were" and this line about power from Chosen:
It's true none of you have the power that Faith and I do. So here's the part where you make a choice.

I always took it as the slayer power was like a force that moved from one girl to the next, thus creating 'The Line', the idea of power passing from one girl to the next, This also explains how the anomaly in the line came to be, with the power moving from Buffy to Faith, and possible back to Buffy to create the anomaly, which is by far the best explanation I've heard.
Although that may have just been more of a metaphorical image for the show, but I don't see a reason to question it, when the other answer requires having to fill in the gaps.

But either way, both explanations make the same point I was saying that it wasn't as simple as all magic being gone, even with your explanation, the magic that give the power, in locked up form, to the potentials is still doing it's thing.

Dawn? I'm sure Dawn didn't die in the #39. And poor Giles. 🙁 But why he's on the Jeanty's cover?

dawn was made by the monks, so she is some sort of mystical energy created by magic?
then after destroying all the magic in the world, i guess that's dawn don't exist anymore. or she wil be 100% human now......

i like the comics...but HATE to wait soooooo long after the new comic comes out😛

Oh no. I don't want Dawn to go poof. 🙁 It would be even worse if Buffy and co. won't remember her at all. But I guess she survived. I don't want the #40 issue to start with the lacking of Dawn. 🙁

Scott Allie has told us that Dawn will still be around... she didn't go poof.

Also, Georges Jeanty insisted that Dawn was on this cover for #40, in that open space on the right, so she will probably be in the final version.

Someone pointed out that Giles on this cover looks an awful lot like Spike with glasses and un-bleached hair... so he may end up transforming into Spike on the final cover.

Thanks for the info. :)
i think the scooby gang would be ripped appart....

Buffy destroyed the seed, every one lost their magic by that....willow is pissed off now against buffy.
buffy and xander hate each other cause xander could maybe stop giles to go between the fight of buffy and angel.

all i think, their's a big problem for the old scooby-gang🙁

the only question i have now. how's the future for the slayer-army...
their are many death's seen in the #39 issue, and after broke the sytche, all the activated potentials have lost their powers?

are buffy and faith the only two slayers now that left?

I just can't stand that we have to wait for January 19th for this!! I need confirmation that Giles will stay dead, & clarification on all the "death of magic" stuff.

I haven't really be into the comics at all, but one I read about Giles I just read as much as I could online. Still pretty bleh with most of the season, but I do have to say I kind of like the idea of Angel Killing Giles. After everything he's already done to him as far as Jenny and the torture, for it to be him that kills him, and even more so him that's not really him, but someone else...that's pretty good.

From the interviews that I've seen and read Giles is really dead too. I'll be upset if this isn't the end for Bangle once and for all though. He's going to be doing the great quest for redemtion again so I'm sure he's going to be mad heroic and all that, but this needs to be what kills them.

How in the world could you LIKE the idea of Angel killing Giles?!?!
I wouldn't hold your breath about that. Maybe some people hope for the end of Bangel but I don't see that happening

Bangel won't end. We will just return to the status quo of say, post S3. They will still be in love but forced to remain apart (with the occasional angsty meeting that will emphasise both their love for one another and the distance that keeps them apart).

Well Kean for the first time ever I disagree with you on something Bangel-related! At the end of s3 Angel fought with Buffy not against her. Might be a bit like post-season 2 except that Angel had a choice in this at least earlier on. He suffered in a hell dimension for 100 yes as a result of his actions as Angelus. My guess is that's not what's going to happen here though. He'll have to more directly face those he's hurt. And yes Buffy is going to be hurt deeply. I don't think she's going to forgivre him easily if at all. She will still love him though. Someone on the other thread pointed out the difference in Buffy loving Angel and trusting Angel and I agree with that here.
