In "Chosen", Sunnydale collapses into a large crater in the middle of the desert. Hang on! Doesn't Sunnydale have a DOCK!? Or am I going crazy? Where did all the water go?

You havea good point...where did all the water go?

I was thinking about this...maybe the dock they were at was in a nearby town...but you do have a good point.

Hm...you're right, I didn't notice that....maybe it was a little farther out...wait no, that's not right, cause couldn't they walk to it? Or maybe Im thinkin of something else...hmm I have no idea, but I mean a huge area of water couldnt just disappear...

It was probably in a different town, as Silve had suggested. Or, if not, it's just a blooper that wasn't added into that scene..

We did this Sunnydale location thing a while back. For my theory about the elasticity of it's location see THIS THREAD which also has a link back to the thread where we concluded that Sunnydale might be somewhere near Santa Barbara. Personally, I'm sticking with the theory that Sunnydale is like Springfield in The Simpsons: all locations to all scriptwriters🙂

Yeah that's my guess too...a nearby town. But then again isn't that Bar The Fish Tank in Sunnydale and that's by the docks?

Ehh, I don't think a dock in a nearby town works, it doesn't take that long for Buffy to get to the dock when she's trying to find Faith in Consequences..

I did a 10 speed bike trip down the coastal highway of California one time.

You can't always trust your memory in cases like this, but I'll offer you this impression I had anyway, because it seems to apply here.

I was peddling south between San Diego and the Mexican border. I came to this intersection where I could head east towards San Clemente (I think it was), then make a connection north. I headed east, and in what seemed like no time, hit this small town. I don't remember it's name.

Before I hit this town there was greenery. There was a small park in it. As I headed out of this town on the eastern side it was like a gateway into the desert.

I know this to be a fact, because I hit a sandstorm and slept under a scrubby bush. When I awoke, I looked back the road and I could see the exiting such and such a town sign.

Now I don't know if Sunnydale is just a Springfield-style elastic city or not, but given my impression of the topgraphical possibilities of Southern California, I'd say having a town in that region, with desert on one side, and the ocean in reachable distance on the other is a possibility.

Or...maybe the crater was far enough away from the shore so we couldn't see the water. It sounds stupid. But I know for a damn fact that Sunnydale has a beach, and an entire dock-based community called Docktown with the Fish Tank in it and such. So...wait...brain...working...

Maybe the way the crater collapsed, it blocked off the water, kinda like a dam? Which is entirely not possible. Nevermind. I must've been stupid today.

OK there is no real answer to this, but that doesn't really bother me. I don't care that Sonnudale looks different in every episode, cause to me that's not really the things that matter.. (Maybe I'm boring saying this but.. that's just how I feel.)
