Critical Thinking: Projection Theory and Character Dislike

My taste in men is never like the majority, except for Dean from Supernatural 'cause that guy is HOT, I always find myself attracted to the guy no one is into.

See it just goes to show how tastes vary because I find both of those guys to be very 'ho hum'. 🙂

But then this is the person who when I was young found Peter Cushing attractive as well as Tom Baker. 😀

I love unusual/striking looking people.

I wouldn't want Spike to father my children (yey! vamps are sterile) But I'd have banged the heck out of him. His only flaw...as far as being hot...is that he has no tattoos

Psychological projection absolutely exists! We see it here on this board frequently; we've even had members say as much during debates.

It's all depends on the person (of course) but there are also many fans who indentify with characters so much that they've become incapable of separating dislike for a character and dislike for them; so that they then perceive everything as a personal attack.

So it really can go either way - over identifying with a character that you like or hating a character that shares a similar weakness. It is interesting to think about what it is that makes a person like or dislike a characters so much.

Not a tattoo fan so no flaw there! Spike is hot but they thing about him is not really his looks, it's his expressions all those little head tilts and flirty behaviours.....that's what makes him so watchable. The world is full of hot guys, well on tv anyway, and the ones that stand out are the ones with personality.

I LOVE his personality, but not as a father to my kids. Now they're grown and gone...so bring on the Spike!
