*very* creepy episode. I guess the issue of the week they're dealing with is stalkers? And Spike certainly qualifies. I like Spru in Season 2, but when she came back here it was clear to me their spark was gone. Too bad. Love having some Dru, though.
 
I'm in the middle of watching this right now and came on here just to see if it was mention what comic book the train guy was reading before he went to expect the inside of the train. hehe.

But then Tara shows up saying this...
No, see, it can't, it can't end like that, 'cause all of Quasimodo's actions were selfishly motivated. He had no moral compass, no understanding of right. Everything he did, he did out of love for a woman who would never be able to love him back. Also, you can tell it's not gonna have a happy ending when the main guy's all bumpy.

I was wondering if anyone mentioned this! 🙂 I also found Willow/Tara's debate on Quasimodo and Esmeralda to mirror the Buffy and Spike relationship, particularly in s5. I think it's interesting Tara says "moral compass" because isn't the whole not having-a-soul-thing reflective of that? Having no soul meant vampires didn't have a conscience, which is similar to a moral compass.

Noticed after re-watching, that the song "Key" by Devics is awesome!
The band played in the Bronze, when Spike and Dru went there to dance - and drink!😀😛
 
I wrote other observations in the offical ep thread, but I just wanted to touch on the Spike thing. At this point, I don't think he truly loved Buffy - I think he had an overblown obsession, and because he is evil it lead him to take these actions. Buffy says you can't love without a soul and I agree with Dru - I think vamps can love, but it's not a happy, pure, fulfilling love. So, here's Spike having feelings for a slayer, and at this point the only thing keeping him from killing is the chip in his head. I love Spike, but at this point he is still evil, so I totally understand Buffy's disgust of him.

I was pondering on this, but I think in S5, Spike is still essentially evil, just contained. He isn't fighting with Buffy or helping her friends and family because he's good - he's doing it because he wants Buffy. He doesn't start being inherently good until S7. Right now, he's fighting on the side of good because it's really his only choice to give in to his violent urges; he is doing good in a selfish way. (That said, once Angel got to LA, and especially in S2 of AtS, he is also doing good for selfish reasons - he is trying to atone. So far, hasn't helped him much.) So, I wouldn't say it doesn't hold weight, but I feel like Spike's intentions need to be taken into account along with his actions. He isn't saying, "I'm going to help Buffy because it's the right thing to do". He's saying, "I'm going to help Buffy because I want her to like me and it's the only way I get to fight".
