Crush?

I don't think I've seen a subject on this one, but might have overlooked it.
Dawn denies that she has a crush on Spike, but whadyethink?
Is she lying? She kind of rolls her eyes there in a : like I'll be telling you, big sista - way.

I think she had the developings of a crush on Spike near the end of season five, but by the time season six comes around and he's been looking after her during the summer, I think she's grown past it.

I see their relationship at the very beginning of season six (you know, for the one episode we saw them together 😛) to be a very sibling-like one.

I wish the writers had explored their friendship a little more, or at least resolved it before Spike died.

Dawn likes Spike. That´s clear. The question is in what way. If she didn't have a fullblown crush on him there still were tendencies. But for the most part I think it was a big brother/dad substitute. Buffy had Giles as her father figure while Dawn had both Spike and Xander as some kind of mix between a father and older brother. Not seeing them as a "dad" in person but looking for the qualities that she would have wanted in a father.

I agree that if she had a crush she's grown past it. They became more like siblings indeed 😉
But I was wondering about this very episode wether she would have lied or not.
I have a theory she wouldn't trust Buffy or any other scoobie with her crush.
Maybe only Tara.

I think Dawn thinks Spike is cool, but as far as having a romantic crush on him, I don't think so. I think she kinda looks up to him 'cause he's got the whole bad boy thing going for him.

Dawn probably did have some sort of adolescent crush on Spike, but I think that she also had sort of taken him on as her special project: she felt like Beauty to Spike's Beast, and she was trying to turn him back into the handsome prince that she saw beneath the black leather and fangs. Any hope of romance between them was dashed as soon as she noticed his feelings for Buffy.

I dont necessarily think Dawn had a crush on Spike, I think she enjoyed his comapny but also did it to rebel against Buffy, who clearly expressed to Dawn not to hang out with him. And she found him cute - like the rest of us 😛

I just watched this again tonight. I hadn't ever noticed the whole conversation between Willow, Buffy and Tara about Quasimodo is actually about the Spike-Buffy relationship. This show is soooooo great!

I don't think Dawn had a crush on Spike. For me, relationship was not even brotherly-sisterly. I don't really know how to describe it, he was always there for and and protected her but I just dont think they had that bond that a brother and sister or even Buffy and Dawn do. Maybe he was like an uncle! just kidding..but I still can't seem to put my finger on it. The word that keeps on poping into my mind is "protecter". He pretty much acts how my sister's boyfriend acts towards me. He's there for me and will protect me but it's not like we are best buds either or have a special bond. He's just always there.
If that make any sense 😛

Yeah i agree, i don't think Dawn had a crush on him. She liked his company and he was the only one who never lied to her supposedly.

It's like me, i always hang about with my big sis's boyfriend.

I completely agree. Dawn and Spike were more like siblings. He felt real affecion for her, even before he had a soul. He wanted to protect her. I think they had a lot in common in S5, both felt like they really didn't belong anywhere. Spike was chipped, yet not yet ensouled. He couldn't be a vampire but he wasn't a man either. She wasn't really a girl or a sister, she was the Key.

Do I think she had a crush on him? Sure, maybe a little. She thought Spike dressed cool, and had cool hair. I think she thought of him as a big brother of sorts, to look up too. That's why Buffy was so mad.

Sadly, I don't think their relationship had the chance to repair its self after what happened in 'Seeing Red'. I don't think Dawn ever forgave him for it or for that matter, ever understood why he did it. I too wish they'd had the chance to develop their friendship before he died.
