Curious... Any Bangels switch to Spuffys or vice versa?

I switched from indifference towards both to being a Bangel fan (although I much prefer Angel and Cordelia). I've always enjoyed Spike as comedy relief but things turn really sour for me during season 6 with my feelings towards him which have become significantly stronger as I've grown older. Angel on the other hand is a character I really enjoy and therefore Bangel as a result of that.

Though I much prefer when the characters are separate than when they are in those ships.

I too generally prefer Buffy and Angel when they aren't around each other, oddly enough. I love the idea of them getting back together again, but I don't trust the creative team. If the character development and relationships Angel had on his own series were respected I'd be all for it, but Whedon generally tends to ignore it whenever he gets them back together. Something I really can't stand.

I too like Angel and Buffy better apart, but I did enjoy their reunioin scene in S7, it was very nicely written. 🙂

I didn't enjoy the Twilight thing at all, and looking back it seems just a way to sabotage their relationship and explain why they stay apart. 🙂

Although to me it has the opposite effect in a way, seperating them makes their relationship seem really inmportant, as opposed to Spike and Buffy who are now pretty much friends who hang around each other no big deal- romance over.

Their scene in S7 was great; it was one of the very few scenes in that season where Buffy felt like herself again.

Yeah, I mostly meant the Twilight crap. There comes a point when keeping them apart just becomes emotional torture porn rather than a nuanced tragedy. Plus, the whole mess seemed engineered to teach them lessons that they already learned: Buffy giving in to her idealized fantasy of Angel (which she arguably stopped having as early as season 3) and Angel blindly trusting a higher power/prophecy.

I actually really like both.

I give the edge to Bangel. It's my favorite fictional couple of all time, on probably any show. It just has/had everything I love about romance (wow...sappy lol). Plus, Angel is my favorite character in the 'verse.

That said, I do like Spike and Buffy, especially in S7.

I feel that as I watch the show I connect with each of the romances, and I am emotionally attached to them all. I cry all the time at the end of season 2 and 3 when Angel leaves Buffy. I even root for Buffy and Riley, for a brief period of time until Spike finally accepts his feelings for Buffy. And I have to admit that I was most excited about Spuffy, because Spike has always been a favorite character of mine. Even with the supporting characters, I go along with their relationships as well (even Kennedy). But I guess I'm a naive fan that will love this show no matter what.

Even though I like Spuffy,I'll never stop loving Bangel. There is something about first three seasons that I just can't erase from my head. It is wierd that I still believe in them after Twilight thing and all,but I do.😳

I've said this before but the fact is when I started watching the show when it originally aired I was a child still, 7,8,9 years old watching this and I shipped Bangel soooo much back then it isn't even funny. I like sobbed my little heart out when Becoming and she had to kill him, and I was soo pissed at Angel for leaving, for what I thought at the time were really stupid reasons. I spent the entire first season of Angel coming up with idea's why he should go back to Sunnydale and be with Buffy. Then in season 2 of ATS I really started like the dynamic he had with all his friends but I still wanted him with Buffy. Then in season 5 of BTVS and they introduced Spike's love for Buffy I thought it was nuts but I really wasn't a fan of what they had done with Spike after they chipped him. But at the end of season five when he started working with the group against Glory and they showed his bound to not only Buffy but Dawn as well I started to like it and when he gave her that you treat me like a man speach I started shipping it. And when they brought in Connor I really fell in love with Cangel. I think that Bangel was important to both characters and it was a good story but I honestly have a hard time seeing them get back together. Now in all honestly Spike is kind of my fandom bicycle I pretty much ship him with everyone if there is a good enough fic for it.

Fandom bicycle! I love it!
I wouldn't really consider myself a Bangel or a Spuffy, but towards the end I was pretty settled into the idea of Buffy-Spike and Angel - Cordy.

I look at the Bangel period more fondly, but that has far more to do with the show in general than the relationship.

I can appreciate Spuffy from time to time, but I don't see myself become an actual Spuffy shipper.
I will always ship Buffy and Angel, because to me, they are soul mates and will never be truly happy unless they are together.

I started shipping them when I was 10 and now I am almost 20 years old (Anniversary?!)

Now I'm a cynical old bag who's never really believed in the whole 'soul mate' thing and so when I watched the show I was happy for Buffy when she was with Angel, just as I was happy when she was with dear old Riley and then Spike.

Spuffy only won out by a nose because I grew to love Spike's character so much that he made that pairing extra enjoyable for me.

Spuffy only winning "by a nose" still means that Spuffy wins and the others lose. I can live with that quite easily.

I like the chemistry between Spike and Buffy as friends and don't see myself becoming a Spuffy right now (but that could change)😛
