CWDP - Nagging Question.

I know it's been addressed before, but everytime I watch CWDP, the same thing bugs me.

What is the presence in the house with Dawn. I know that the first took on the form of Joyce (as established by Jane Espenson), but what was the other thing, trying to get Dawn out of the house? The thing that touched her? Was that the real Joyce? Was that an agent of the first? If so, why was it trying to get Dawn to leave?

Am I the only person still bothered by this?
 
I'd like to agree with ana8, but I'm really not sure. We'll probably never know. But no, your not the only one still bothered by this. I would like to know what that other thing was.
 
The demon could just be a random demon. I mean, they're in Sunnydale all the time. Maybe it was just a coincidence it was there.

The question bugs me too.
 
It's a weird situation. Since the demony thing actually touched Dawn, it couldn't be the First. But then if Joyce was the First, why would a demon go against it? I guess maybe the First set it up to make Joyce more believable to Dawn...?
 
Whatever that thing was... it was gross. Has anybody seen it? There is a picture of it on top of Joyce in the 2004 student planner... and yikes! scary. It's got like something growing out of it's back. Maybe it was an agent of the first, to freak Dawn out.
 
Hm...just looked at my friend's planner, It was pretty....gross. I can't see it being anything that would try to help her....and I liked ana8's theory..... ::huh1::
 
i'm not sure what that was...i'd like to think that it was joyce but i'm not sure..i guess we'll never really know
 
This is something that the writers needed to clear up, but never did. I like This Year's Girl's theory, that it was a demon sent by the First to make Joyce seem more real to Dawn.
 
I will always believe that 'something' not the First was with Dawn, and that also, Joyce was with Dawn...what Joyce said was true ''Buffy wont choose you'' it was true; Buffy sent away Dawn toward end of the season...the First wouldnt tell Dawn the truth...The First was with Willow anyway...thats my theory...

Actually, it was specified by Jane Espenson (writer) that "Joyce" was the First, also, Buffy sent Dawn away so that she wouln't get hurt, not to get rid of her.

Yeah, I know about the Dawn thing, and I know about the Jane Espenson thing, what Im saying is...well...I still think, despite what Jane says (lol, she's only a writer! lol) yeah but anyway, I still think, somewhere in the house, Joyce was there, even if it wasnt her that appeared to Dawn, its just my theory is all...
