I can't remember any explanation about why these Cyborgs wanted Angel's freewill. Does anyone know if there was going to be a story arc on these guys involving Angel?
I think it would have been an interesting arc.

Yeah, I always wanted to know more about those guys too. I didn't hear about any plans, or backstory, so I invented one for myself. Wanna hear it?...Too bad. I'm gonna tell you anyway. 😉

The cyborgs were created by David Nabbit. He always wanted to be part of the greater battle for good and evil, but he didn't really have the stones for it so he had his corporation create the cyborgs. When Angel went to Wolfram & Hart it bugged him. Angel was Nabbit's hero. He wanted to save Angel from himself. Thus the attempted abduction of Angel.

I doubt there was supposed to be more to it. It was more a reason to get Wesleys dad in the episode.

 

[Angel's vision]

yeah, and they turned out to be evil, and it lead up to Wes departing so both Angel and Spike went to that dogdy watcher to translate the prophesy.
It was so Alexis could (either one i forget) Marry/go on honeymoon with Alison Hannigan.Plus it would of been nice to have an expansion on it, and i like the David Nebbit story N4H!

I heard that the Cyborgs were going to play a bit part in season 6, but maybe that was just a rumour. It'd be a strange plot choice after not many people liked the cyborg elements in Buffy season 4 (myself not being one of them).

The probably could have brought the Cyborg plot back at the end and linked it with the Circle of the Black Thorn.

yeah it would have been cool to find out more about them, and why they wanted to make Angel a slave. I love this episode though. Mainly because it centers on Wes and how he finally gets to tell his dad (even though it wasn't) off. Also, when Angel and especially Spike tell Wes how they killed their parents was hilarious. The thing I hated at the end though was when Knox interrupted Fred and Wes. That little asshole.

I personally found the cyborgs stretched credulity a bit. They just seemed completely out of context. I mean, they appeared out of nowhere for the one episode and then - whoosh! - that's the last we see or hear of them. Basically, the seem to have been no more than a plot device. Perhaps you're right, Croft Storm. Maybe they were meant to feature in season six, but since that season never happened it hardly makes much difference, does it?

i think this was one of the seeds planted for season six that never got to develop🙁. Whoever controlled the cyborgs were reported to be taking out 'bad' guys all over the place so they were essentially on the same side as Angel although, because Angel was at Wolfram and Hart they assumed he was bad. The episode is called Lineage not just because it is about Wes and his 'father' but it is also an episode about lines - the lines drawn between good and evil, justice and injustice, friend and enemy.
