Just something I was musing on earlier...for all you youngsters 🙂

Who is your favourite band or artist from the days when killerdwarf and I were a-groovin' and a-movin' to the great and good of rock 'n' roll? Who did your parents or elder siblings force you to listen to until you actually liked them?

60s stuff like Beatles, Byrds, Stones or Hendrix? Early Metal gods like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath or Deep Purple? Punk and New Wave legends like the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Clash, Jam, Blondie or Talking Heads. Rock luminaries like Bruce Springsteen, Sting, David Bowie, Neil Young or Bob Dylan? Or was it Stevie Wonder and Motown or Bob Marley and reggae? Or something a bit more recent like U2, REM, Nirvana or The Cure? Or was it the ladies - Madonna or Diana Ross, perhaps?

Confess your guilty, dino-rock secrets to yer ol' Uncle Pointy. He won't tell anyone else. Promise...😉

I was raised on 'old' rock. They are way better then alot of the stuff people like now. But some of my favorite 'old' bands are RUSH, Led Zepplin, Van Halen, ACDC, Pink Floyed and The Beatles.

I'm definately a big Doors fan...The Beatles 🙂 definately...Ramones, Sex Pistols (FOR SURE)...Supertramp is one of my favourite bands EVER...and I'm also *blush* real big on Phil Collins.

I had to share a room with my older brother, so I had Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Guns 'n' Roses, Helloween, Iron Maiden and those are the ones that I can remember. Most of it stuck with me as I love the first three. Even when he comes home from abroad and leaves his CD's we still have similar tastes. He still doesn't know I pinched his Stereophonics CD 😀

I love the "old" music... much more than some recent music actually...

The Beatles & the Stones are classical of course. Some song just never get old... No Satisfaction for instance, I agree we heard it & still hear it soooooo often... but still... I don't know, don't seem that this song is "old" to me.

Blondie is cool to listen to for a moment, but I wouldn't listen to it all day long like I do for some others...

Bruce Springsteen, Sting, David Bowie & Bob Dylan & Hendrix & Stevie Wonder => I have many friends (they are my age) that are fan... one is totally fond of Hendrix, another of Bowie & Prince. Sting.. well, he made Disney song so I like his songs, hahaah... generally, all of these have made some great songs!

Bob Marley & reggae => yesssssssss

U2, REM, Nirvana or The Cure? => REM made really amazing songs with amazing sounds... losing my religion... Haaa ! 😀

You forgot Depeche Mode => They are among the best... made all sort of type / kind of music... they rock!

Madonna or Diana Ross => Madonna old songs, better than the ones now in my opinion, Diana Ross... what a voice !

Good old Motown music have always made me weak in the knees. Aretha Franklin, Dinah Washington, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and the list goes on, that's music that gives me goosebumps. Anyone seen the documentary Standing in the shadows of Motown? It's great.

And can't forget Sex Pistols and David Bowie.

Some people say I should be ashamed of my taste in music. Don't know why though, I have exellent taste IMO.
I'm totally into country western such as Dolly, Johnny Cash, Wanda Jacksson and Kenny Rogers. Plus, my record collection consists of 90% 80's music including such favorites as Devo, The Go-Go's, Spandau Ballet, Alphaville, Human League and Kajagoogoo. Not to forget the queen of pop, miss Madonna. And some good ole metal like Kiss, AC/DC Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Oh and my all time favorites Guns n Roses!

Uh then I have this more funky side of me who old blues, jazz and soul. Motown of course, I grew up on that.

Hmm, I used to be a huge Madonna fan when I was a kid, will always admire her, mhm. (Just had to say that, heh, she was my first real obsession...)
Other than that I used to be a Talking Heads fan, because of my parents.. Still really like them, listning to Stop Making Sense right now..
Um, Bowie, U2, REM, Bob Marley.. and of course Beatles.. But my parents made me grow up listening to Swedish political music from the '70s (Blå Tåget and Nationalteatern and so on) so I think I missed a lot of that cool music.. had to find it by myself when I was like 12-14 but yea, I found Madonna and stopped searching lol... (Yea I guess music was never the most important thing to me, movies though, different story..)

Wow! You youngsters seem to have a pretty healthy respect for the history of rock...kudos to you all...some of you have mentioned acts that I'd forgotten about...not to mention forgetting about the whole Country and Country rock genre 🙂

My kind of thread!

Anyone who knows me knows that my rock obsession spans about four different decades. My rock of choice will always be the early ninties grunge era, bands like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and the rest but my cd collection contains everything from Led Zep and Black Sabbath to Queen and REM all the way through to the likes of Linkin Park and The Darkness.

To me it doesn't matter if the band is considered to be metal, punk, grunge, goth, nu-metal or even, to a certain degree anyway, pop-rock. As long as it rocks it's fine by me. I won't even bother to attempt to list all the bands i love because it would take me forever. Needless to say i own cd's from most of the rock acts mentioned in this thread so far and hundreds of others as well.

Hmm... Good stuff to be honest (although- don't tell my parents that whenever I moan- I'm secretly loving their music!!)
My mom's into stuff like Queen, Blondie, The Pretenders, Bangles, etc and my dad's still obsessed with David Bowie. Plus my mom has this huge Sex Pistols obsession- I forced her to watch the end of 'Lovers walk' just so she could watch 'that blond freak ruin my favourite song' (Her words- definately not mine!!)
I LOVE Queen though- they rock!!!!

Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, REM, Queen.. etc, etc. There are tons of good ones. First when I was little I was kinda: what is this noise? But then I grew into it and now I LOVE all of them !!!!! Most of the good stuff comes from "that time" 😀😀😀

And oh! Madonna! I love her first singles. 🙂
