this should probably be in another thread, but i took the chance and posted it here. i know the Mod's will make it right! 😀

ok, so i was watching 'Damage' last night, you know, the Angel ep with the psycho Slayer, Dana, who cuts off Spike's hands.
so i was watching that, and all her little flashes of memory of the other Slayers lives, liek Nikki, and Xin-Rong, and it occured to me that Dana seems slightly more connected to the whole Slayer line than buffy, Faith or Kendra ever did. i mean they weren't running around speaking the final words of dying Slayers. and as far as we know, neither are any of the other newbies.
granted, this could be because of Dana's unstable mental state, but what if that's not all it is?
what if, somehow during Willow's spell, the status of 'Active Slayer' passed to Dana, from Buffy and/or Faith? meaning, the one who has to die for the next Slayer to be Called.
it could explain why there are no Slayers by Fray's time. Dana was probably locked away by the Council. i'm guessing that they could do nothing for her, her mind was already broken when she was activated, and adding Slayer strength to the mix wasn't the best idea. so Giles and the other Watchers would have kept her safe and well, if not exactly sane, where she might have lived well into little old lady-hood...and therefore, there was no new Slayer Called after the demons had been wiped out by whatever did that.
and by the time Dana died, there would have been no reason to go looking for a new Chosen One as there were no demons left for her to fight, which is how we progress to Fray.
i don't know if my ramblings made any sense or not to you guys, but it was just something that occured to me, and something i could maybe see happening.

Sweet theory
You have a piont Lyri, and let's not forget they weren't exactly qualified in mental health issues! so there wouldn't be alot they could of done anyway!
I'd buy that theory unless N4H or Arcane were to prove it wrong!.......

I can't watch the episode to analise it without getting into a rage, over certain bits and pieces....

I have no interest in disproving it. I like theories. I would like to understand it better though.

It sounds like you're saying Willow does her scythe slayer activation spell. All potential slayers are activated, but the ability to pass on the slayer line goes to one particular slayer. Why does it have to be Dana? Couldn't it be any slayer who lives past the final battle?

yes, i'm saying it could be anyone, but to me, it looks more likely that that Slayer would have been Dana...as i've stated with her quoting the Slayers last words.
maybe it is just her mental state that's making her more suseptable to what goes on in a Slayer's mind, like she's not able to shut it off like the other girls do.

I think she was saying it would more likely be Dana because she would be locked up out of harm's way and have less chance of dying as she would not be out in the field, so therefore not in any danger, thus surviving the finale battle but having said that, if she were to die a natural death..before Fray's time....it would still pass on anyway? i've gotten confused...now lol.....

I have a real strong suspicion (hope) Joss is going to give us the final answer to this multiple slayers to single slayer question in his upcoming Buffy Season 8. It would be great if Lyri's theory about Dana being the activating slayer is correct, and my theory about Joss answering the slayer activation question in Season 8 is correct, because you know what that would mean? Dana in Season 8. I'd love to see Dana again.

Edit

Oh, I just remembered something. There's also the theory that goes Rona is the next in line, because in the final battle in Chosen Buffy tells Faith to "Hold the line", then passes her the scythe. Faith later passes the scythe to Rona. The theory goes this could be symbolic.

Given a choice between seeing either Rona, or Dana return in Season 8 though, I personally choose Dana, so I'm hoping Lyri is right. 🙂

That "hold the line" symbolism is a fascinating idea.
whoa, for some reason, i never got that about Rona...how dense am i?
i would love to see Dana in S8. i always thought she'd make a return if the show ran onto a S6, but alas, that didn't happen.

intresting. I've always taken it as dana was unable to process the dreams.

And didn't someone say that if Angel had continued Dana would have been back, she was cool!!
