I'm not overly keen on the look of the art work. I wish they'd do an animated series, maybe using the Buffy (Xbox) game animation for the characters and have the characters voiced by the actual actors from the tv series. Either way have the characters look like the actual actors.

Well, the artwork changes a lot, as the comics have used a lot of different artists over the years.

First of all, the covers almost always look amazing:

But really, my favorite thing about the comics is the dialogue. When they're good (which is most of the time, IMO), I can totally hear the actors saying those lines in my head, and that makes the characters feel more alive than any art or animation.

Of course I'd love a Buffy animated series, or a Buffy video game, but you can't always get what you want. And the Buffy comics give me what I need.

I am not normally much of a shipper, but Dander is one that I can get behind. It is based on mutual respect and knowledge and stands a good chance of not becoming broken up by minor things. But this is the Jossverse and like computer programs that expand to consume all the memory, reasons for breakups expand to become sufficient to cause the breakup, so I hope this one flies under the radar.

The cover art is fantastic for the most part especially the one of Willow, Buffy and Xander looking at the TV because it looks almost exactly like SMG, NB and AH. However the inner art not so much, sometime it's difficult to tell which character is supposed to be which and only the dialogue gives it away. If you had a pic of Angel on his own, I wouldn't be able to tell its Angel. It's only because he's with Faith, who only bares a passing resemblance to Eliza Dushku, and I know that Angel and Faith have a comic together, that I can guess it's Angel.

Wow, that first panel of Buffy jumping out of a helicopter is fantastically drawn and colored. It's unfortunate that Jeanty's art got very sloppy as the issues went on. His best work was this very first issue.

I had the same problem too, at first. But I learned over time to recognize the characters easily, with hair color and style of clothing (Willow always wears wicca-ish skirts, for example) and body language and stuff like that. You get used to it. And anyway, Buffy was always a very dialogue-driven story, so it's OK if the art isn't perfect, IMO, as long as the writing is good. The writing makes it work.

Well, it's a 2-page panel, so it's more detailed than usual. Jeanty's art did get pretty inconsistent over time, but I'm really not sure if the first issue is his best one. He still did a lot of really good stuff later, even if he wasn't as consistent.
