Since my Cangel vs. Bangel thread has seemed to have slowly turned itself into a Dangel vs. Bangel thread. 😀

Anywho, here's a quote from Guise Will Be Guise that describes my personal position in this:

Angel: "Not a vampire at all, really. I mean, not any more. They brought her back as a human."
Magev: "This Darla girl - why'd they do that?"
Angel: "I don't know. But seeing her again... it's just..."
Magev: "It started the inner struggle."

Angel: "No. It-it's still her, it's still Darla. It's - kinda hard to explain."
Magev: "What hard? You're obsessed."
Angel: "I guess I am, a little, yeah."

Angel: "I suppose I do."
Magev: "You want to punish her."
Angel: "A bit..."
Magev: "At the same time you want to thank her."
Angel: "Thank her?"
Magev: "For the gift she's given you."
Angel: "Gift?"
Magev: "You're deeply ambivalent."
Angel: "Yeah, well, I am and I'm not."
Magev: "You need to get over her. - Okay, what does she look like?"
Angel: "She's beautiful. - Small, blonde..."
Magev: "Right. So here's what you do. You go out and find yourself some small, blonde thing. You bed her, you love her, you treat her like crap, you break her heart. You and your inner demon will thank me, I promise."
Angel: "Uhm..."

Hah! Angel: Well.... I already did, didn't end so well. :silly:

Bangel, obviously.

Angel never loved Darla, and she never made him happy.

Angel loved Buffy, and she made him so happy that he turned evil and tried to murder her and all her friends.

I think B/A is the obvious choice! 😛

Truth.
I think that by the time Darla sacrificed herself for Connor, Angel did love her. For me Dangel and Cangel are about tied. I'd be more Cangel if not for the travesty that is season 4. By the end of season 3 I was all about Cangel but I can't erase season 4 from my mind. Bangel is dead last, probably my least favorite ship in all of the Buffyverse. So, Dangel wins here.

Ok I think that noone can deny the significance Darla has in Angel's life. She sired him, she showed him the world, they may have been sadistic and evil together, but they spent 150 years together. It's a lifetime(more than that actually!). But they never loved each other.Sex and killing for pleasure doesn't make you a happy person(unless you are a soulless person, like them who were vampires) and it doesn't mean that you love each other. As evil persons, they fit together. Darla has spent most of her life as a soulless vampire and she doesn't understand why she didn't make Angel happy in Dear Boy. She doesn't get the difference between love and sex, happiness and sadistic pleasure. Darla had always been a support for Angelus, that's why when Angel got his soul back, he tried to stay with her , cause like a child when separated from his home, he doesn't know where to go or what to do. When Darla got her soul back, what Angel felt for her was sympathy. He wanted to redeem her soul , he felt he owed her after so many years they spent together.

What Angel felt with Buffy was unique and noone can deny that. The man lost his soul because he was loved by her and because he loved her. He felt perfect happiness, he finally had found true love. On the Contrary, in reprise, Angel reminds me of Buffy s6."I want to feel"... He wanted to lose himself and he chose the person that had known him for so many years, a woman who enjoyed pain as a vampire. And the result? PERFECT DESPAIR.

And Wishing Oceans I absolutely love the scene you chose!!! They both speak so quickly, and I love Angel. In his tragedy he always succeeds in making me smile.

Total agreement with everything you said. :)
I find Dangel to be superior to Bangel, as long as Darla is either human or a souled vampire. I think that they have so much history and a shared bond. I consistently enjoyed watching their interaction, while Bangel had me regularly slipping into a coma after S2. But I don't think either Darla or Buffy is the right gal for Angel.
 
Dangel. Even though I love Bangel, Buffy just isn't Darla in my opinion. I mean yeah Bangel was love, but Dangel was also love because in a way Darla kept coming back to Angel because they were together for 150 years.

Bangel all the way! But I did love Dangel on Angel, that is a tongue-twister! Darla's arc on Angel was very beautiful!
 
Bangel hands down. There is no doubt in my mind that the feelings Angel has for Buffy are so much more then the feelings he has for Darla. When he sleeps with Darla he doesn't lose his soul underlining that he isn't experiencing true happiness. On countless occasions when Buffy comes back into his life he is cut up and struggles to cope. He loves Buffy i don't think he loves Darla.
 
Yeah - it's not a real comparison - Bangel (Buffy/Angel) is a relationship based of Love, Trust between champions. So they win - hands down.

Dangel (Darla/Angel) is about lust, or bloodlust between vampires. In fact in vampire relationship one could easily describe Drusilla & Spike's relationship to be more based off love than Darla & Angelus ever were.

This is only true for the relationship between vampire Darla and Angelus, as shown in flashbacks. You completely ignore the interaction between human Darla and Angel, as shown in S2/3 of AtS. In this sense, Dangel is about redemption, leaning on each other, helping each other through the tough times to be stronger.

ITA. The interactions between Angel and human Darla, then again when Darla was feeling Connor's soul, were totally different than those between Angelus and Darla. I agree that Angelus and Darla were never in love (though I do think Spike and Dru were). IMO neither Angelus nor Darla (non-human, non-pregnant) was capable of love. Had she lived through Connor's birth, she would have been evil again most likely.
 
This is really a question? Dangel had a 150 years of history, Bangel had 3. And ended with Angel leaving Sunnydale. Dangel was clearly the superior relationship, especially since Buffy was a bit of a Darla replacement IMO.

Because they had similar visual apperances? That only indicates that Angel has a type (Nina anyone?)
 
Dangel is very appealing to me and at times they will always be superior to bangel because they share a child together nothing can take that away. Other than that though I will admit that Bangel appeals just a bit more.

I see it like this Bangel is each other's first real loves that is big. I like them at times more than Dangel. The thing is when Dangel are on Angel they are more interesting, you really see a back story and a relationship. So in the end this is a tough one for me but ultimately it is going to be Bangel over Dangel, but that doesn't mean that both aren't important in different aspects.
 
Well not everyone's going to agree, if we did what would we have to do? And the thing about Angel liking blond women, just have to say one thing to that, Cangel. Although I hate Cangel with a passion, Angel did love Cordelia on some level, or thought he did at least. And like Marisa said, Dangel had a child together. In the episode "Angel" at which time I was a die-hard Bangel, I got a glimpse into Angel's past in which I realized Buffy and Darla looked similar, Angel had a history with Darla. Angel used Buffy to replace Darla so he doesn't feel lonely, so he has someone to love again. That's what I got out of the episode but at that point I was still a die-hard Bangel. Then when I watched ATS S3, best season ever, I went "Buffy who?" Darla is the one for Angel. I was almost in tears when Darla dusted herself, I was hoping to see her as a mother and Angel as a father. It was even more heartbreaking when Angel, two episodes after Darla died decided he wanted a relationship... with Cordelia! That fiend! But back on topic. Dangel will always be superior in my mind, no one's going to change that
 
So, spanish whore and millionare has a kid somewhere in the world, doesn't mean they're meant to be together.

No, we're not going to agree on some things, but it's harsh to call Buffy a replacement Angel got because he was lonely. He lived without anyone for 100 years, if he was really that lonely, he would get someone before. In this way, it's like you're saying he didn't loved her, just just picked her because of the lonliness. Not cool.
