I just ran across this:

http://en.mediamass.net/culture/dark-angel/reunion.html

Is anyone else here a fan of the show? I bought the two seasons in a DVD set several years ago, and, while it isn't one of my all time favorites, I still found it to be entertaining (and probably the best thing that Jessica Alba ever made) I know that there are those who saw it, especially in the 2nd Season, to be a "Buffy" rip off, but I never thought so myself.

Okay, I just saw the part about the reunion being apparently a hoax.

Anyhow, the question still remains:

Is anyone else here a fan of the show?

I'm only 5 episodes in, but loving it so far.
And it has a much different feel to it than Buffy, so I don't get why are people calling it a ripoff.

I think that the reason for the Buffy ripoff claim becomes more obvious in Season 2, but that's about all that I can say without ruining it for you.

I used to looove Dark Angel. I would stay up late just to see it air (it was shown around midnight here... talk about not being given a chance in terms of prime audiences 😉)

I have no particular hankering for a reunion, but if it was made I would definitely go see a movie of it. Especially if Jensen Ackles was in it as he was one of my absolute favorite characters. But I would think that that movie could be easily made mainly circling only the Max character, she is the most essential, and while the others are great I do think that in terms of storytelling - if they had to (like actor disinterest. For some reason I can't see Weatherly going back) - they could probably be cut out.

I had the same problem with another favorite of mine, "Highlander." When it was first airing. Locally, it was only shown at 1 AM, so I would have to tape it, then watch the episode the next afternoon after work.

I used to watch Dark Angel reruns on SciFi when I'd get home from school... I don't think I've seen the whole series but it was a good show from what I remember. I was really pleasantly surprised to see Jessica Alba in a role of substance... I didn't watch it for a long time because I thought she was just the token sexy character.

[QUOTE I didn't watch it for a long time because I thought she was just the token sexy character./QUOTE]

I take it you never watched the film Idle Hands she is the token sexy character but she is so funny with it, and Seth Green is real good. I can't think why it has an MA 15+ rating here.
The rating system in Australia is dumb, it must have been thought up by The Goons, just think of The Three Stooges - on ice.
The film isn't a classic by any standards but it is enjoyable, on the second viewing.

Obviously, Jessica was a sexy character on the show, but she wasn't there just for her looks. It was her show, after all, and she is an attractive, sexy woman (and I personally liked her better with dark hair than later, when she went blond) but "Dark Angel" might very well be the best performance of her career, something that might also be said for Sarah as Buffy.

I finished the series about a week ago and can't really see how season 2 was considered a Buffy ripoff...

Mainly, I think that it was because of the similarity between "Dark Angel's" halfbreed characters and "Buffy's" demons, but I'm not certain. I never saw all that much similarity either, that's just what I read in various reviews of the show.

I'm about ten episodes into this, but I can see why it is considered a Buffy rip-off already and that is because of the style of the fight scenes and because she uses a lot of one-liners as put downs when beating mostly man up. I think it is also attempting to be some kind of feminist show, but its a very conservative view of feminism which says for a female to ride a motorcycle, to not be sexual and kick men's arse is to subversive. Something tells me than there is little more too it than that😀 I think watching it today it seems more dated too, in terms of its racial stereotypes and gender politics whereas when it first came out I can see why that wouldn't be so much of an issue. But despite that I still quite enjoy the show, its entertaining mostly, Abel is decent in the lead, and once you get into the main story and characters you do want to see more, although at the moment the supporting characters are more of a distraction than adding much.

I watched this show when it originally aired and I loved it!

I thought season 2 left on an amazing cliff hanger and would have led nicely to a season 3.

The characters were great. Max was a very strong female lead. I liked the tension between her and Logan. And I just loved Jensen Ackles in it. He played both his characters amazingly.

I was really gutted when it git cancelled. I wish they could have done a movie like Farscape and Firefly (Serenity).

Its funny watching the final two-parter and Lita showing up as I was a big Wrestling fan at the time (still am I guess, but just don't watch the newer stuff), and remember reading her she got a serious injury filming a show called Dark Angel😱

I still need to catch up on some episodes, but from what I've seen the second season was much better. Think when they got into the arc format more it worked better than stand alone episodes.
