Dark Matter Syfy Channel

Has anyone here seen this show? It's into its second season now, and I think that it's pretty good, especially considering that Syfy doesn't usually have many top quality first run material.

I get the feeling sometimes that this series gets at least some of its inspiration from "Firefly."

I watched Season 1 and really enjoyed it. Some of it is very predictable, but there are a few surprises, which kept me watching. I've got the first few episodes of S2 saved but haven't managed to watch them yet. I think Firefly was more original, but I prefer the characters in Dark Matter

I watch it. It's entertaining enough. Not a stand out in any way but it works. I just miss the emotional connection to love it. Through it I came across Killjoys. I've only watched 2 episodes but also seem decent enough. It got one of the Ashmore (Aaron & Shawn) brothers which is never a bad thing for me.

I prefer the characters in Dark Matter

The characters got potential for sure but I don't feel as attached to them as I'd like. Five and Android have probably the least interesting backstories from what we know so far (how surprising regarding Android 😛) but the've ended up being my favourites.

Lol, then lets have a discussion 🙂 No, seriously what I meant was that I liked Firefly, but I often had to overlook characters I just couldn't connect with, Mal being the main one. I felt most of the Firefly characters were over-blown caricatures 😱 Whereas on Dark Matter they seem a lot subtler and their secrets are going to come out slowly, which i like.

I've seen season 1. Not got started on season 2 yet.

Also think it's a decent show, worth watching for sure, but not amazing.
Will check out season 2 though.

It's totally fine. Just personal taste. I get your thinking. I think Mal is a great character but it took me a long time to appreciate him the way I do now. So it took more time/viewings than Dark Matter has had so far. So if Mal had been my favourite Firefly character I might be agreeing with you. As it is now I got three characters way ahead of him to start with and I'm not sure I'd put him as number four.

Three things that I've noticed about the show:

1) They spend a whole lot of time eating, especially when you take into consideration the fact that they've commented on several occasions just how bad the food tastes.

2) The ship is so big that they seemed to keep finding new store rooms and cargo bays for half the first season, but, apparently, the android can handle everything with no assistance.

3) And, speaking of the android, obviously Asimov's Laws of Robotics don't seem to apply to it, since it seems to have no compunction against the taking of human life (no really big thing, but most fictional robots/androids, with the most blaring exception being the Terminators) do seem to comply.

Just love that J. Malozzi or whatever his name is reckons the last episode will have great influence on the future. Given the track record of some futuristic show, if the show is dropped tomorrow his comment is going to seem pretty lame.
