Based on what I have seen, I understand that Angelus is the most cruel and vicious vampire to exist.
If he was transformed by Darla, does that mean she has a bit of cruelness in her as well?
What I mean is how can an average vamp create the most cruel one? Darla had to be pretty badass herself right?
I figure it has to be more than just the style of killing involved, right?
If I'm right, Angelus tortured his people before killing them. But does that alone give him the title of worst vamp of all? Just because the master is older, does that make him worse than Angelus?

While we're at it, why didn't/couldn't Angelus become the head vampire (such as "the master") if he indeed was so bad.

I'm not really sure thats how it works, I mean you don't have to be a really evil vamp to create a really evil vamp, It's just random. But I suppose it could be right I mean the evilest vamps we have seen on the show are usually connected to a lineage of Strong vampires.

Well thats one reason why he was the worst vampire, He tortured his victims whereas most vamps just go for the kill, But it's not just that he took pleasure in the torture, It was an Art to him. Like when he killed Jenny and then set up the whole thing to fool Giles, It's that extra mile he goes that gives him the title of Evilest Vamp.

While we're at it, why didn't/couldn't Angelus become the head vampire (such as "the master") if he indeed was so bad.

Well I don't think he wanted that, He liked living in the Human world, He didn't want to take over the Masters position.

Well all Vampires must have to some extent a cruelness, but i don't think Angelus got anything from Darla that made Angelus the 'Scourge of Europe'. On the contrary, i think what we see in the Vampire is more in the Man/Woman it inhabits. Perhaps its takes secret inhibitions and educes them, perhaps it turns the desires of the flesh and distorts them or perhaps it is Darla...or more to the point the watered down Vampire essence passed on to her by the Master, i mean we all take on traits of our parents and some times those traits can be exemplified a few generations, lay dormant and so on....so maybe its the Master that is why Angelus is like that, and Darla is just in the way....or maybe the Master himself is tame in comparison with whatever came before him...honestly i don't know.
But my money would be on the reason Angelus is so brutal lies in Liam and not the Vampire.

Like BEG points out, Angelus is the worst because of all his ways, he doesn't just kill to eat as most Vampires do, he takes a perverse pleasure out of killing just for the hell of it, then takes it further, he doesnt just kill he breaks the person first, see Drusilla and what he tried to do with Buffy and in Season 4 Angel(which i'm guessing you havent seen CC) he relishes his moments of mind games.
He doesnt just stalk and kill his prey, he learns them, studies them understands who they are and takes that away from them piece by piece.
Thats why i don't think a Slayer has ever been on his mind before Buffy because if you take away the average Slayer's abilities, there is nothing much left, she has little or no family, no friends, no life, she is simply a tool.
