David Biggest Star of Whedonverse?

Alyson Hannigan-How I Met Your Mother, American Pie
David Boreanez-Bones
Eliza Dushku-Tru Calling, Bring It On, Wrong Turn, Dollhouse
Sarah Michelle Gellar- The Grudge, Scooby Doo, Cruel Intensions, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream 2
Seth Green- Austin Powers, Can't Hardly Wait, That 70s Show, The Italian Job
Michelle Trachtenberg- Gossip Girl, 17 Again
Julie Benz- No Ordinary Family, Dexter
Charisma Carpenter-Charmed, Veronica Mars

These are just off the top of my head.......🙂I'd say they all did pretty damn good! I love David and Bones, but biggest star of the Whedonverse? Nah!
😛

Wow, I'm really disagreeing with you guys. DB starred as Angel for 3 years on BTVS, and 5 years as headliner on Angel. Now, another 6 seasons on Bones. In contrast, I have not seen any of Seth's movies (& have no desire to), I don't remember him in That 70s show (granted I didn't see every episode). I love Eliza (esp in Dollhouse!), but Tru Calling had 2 seasons and while I liked Bring It On (more for Kirsten Dunst), it wasn't exactly a superstar movie. Haven't seen Gossip Girl or 17 Again. I love Julie as well, and she's probably more widely known than some of the others. Honestly, I think it depends on who you ask. I know that BB tends to skew young, so when some of you say "all my friends" you have to realize that you're talking to a younger audience. As a 42 year old (god yes, I just had a birthday) I haven't even seen a lot of SMG's movies and have no desire to. Although we have to remember that she has had a long career- folks might remember her more for her soap opera career than movie career, 2nd to Buffy of course. So for a more mid-age/mainstream audience, yeah, DB is probably more well-known. Nathan Fillion has been around awhile too, again soap opera career, some other TV shows, plus our favorites. Castle is doing pretty well too. I think Aly is pretty well known on HIMYM although I'm honestly not all that excited about it. I'm glad for her though, but don't ask me to watch any American Pie movies. Again, not interested. I adore Summer, but she is more "queen of genre" than anything else. 🙂

I agree with this for the fact of what you said 3 seasons on Buffy, 5 seasons of Angel now 6 and on counting on Bones. To me he has had the best for that reason alone.
Sarah to me is more of a house name because of the movies she was in but David is the bigger star to me these days.
I was going to say Nathan was close because of his run on OLTL, Firefly and Castle. If Castle goes on a while he will be catching up fast 😛

I love all the other stars but they haven't done to well I mean Charisma was in the expendables but not to long and then James was on Smallville. Julie may be well known like you said because of Dexter and No ordinary family. Michelle for her age has done very well to me.

Yes, Michelle being the youngest definitely has her career in front of her.
It's weird. Like someone said above, I think only Sarah has the name. You could say her name to practically anyone, and they'd reply "Oh, that Buffy chick?"/"Buffy the Vampire?" etc. I don't think any of the other have a name that would be nearly as recognisable. But, then again, I think there are very few people left in the world that wouldn't know who Aly is if you described her. She's had such a broad and wide-reaching career. I think it's more likely that more people know her as an actress than they would for Sarah.

So, it's really difficult to judge. David's had a great career, but, tbh, I don't think anyone who didn't watch Buffy/Angel/Bones would really know or care who he is. Aly doesn't have that problem. Neither does Seth, to an extent, though his recognition is skewed heavily towards the kind of people that enjoy Austin Powers/Family Guy/Robot Chicken. (That sounds really judgemental, doesn't it? You know what I mean!)

So, I think Sarah has the name. She has the "star power". But Aly's probably had the best career. Well, apart from Amy Adams like Icarium said!

Urgh "Buffy the Vampire." To which I always reply "SLAYER." Complete with glare.
Hmm....well you guys are almost swaying me! haha 🙂 But I guess if I really had to pick one it would be SMG. If you think about them being covered in a celebrity fashion (talked about on tv) it would have to be her. I think probably more people have heard of her name, even if they don't know what she was necessarily in. But obviously, this seems to be a pretty subjective question! 😉

It depends on what we count as "star": Most jobs/roles or most known. SMG has been THE star out of all the cast, because when you say "Buffy" you know who Sarah Michelle Gellar is, but if you say "Angel", you wouldn't know his name is David Boreanaz. (talking outside the fandom, just "regular" people on the street". Alyson Hannigan, people would know better than David Boreanaz, mostly because of HIMYM (I'm guessing people know her from American Pie, but they couldn't name the actress). So besides SMG and AH, and maybe maybe Michelle T (for Gossip Girl mostly, which is very popular), no one will know who you're talking about when hearing the name.

See I was thinking of Aly but then it seems like How I met your Mother is more of Neil's show than anyones he seems to get the most shine from it.

How do you (general sense) define Whedonverse? All Whedon work or something else? Neil might be a good contender depending on your definition.

I'd say Sarah Michelle Gellar is probably the biggest whedonverse star, she's really famous for Buffy and Scooby Doo. I'd also say that Neil Patrick Harris is pretty big too, because he's in HIMYM.

David is famous and all for Bones, but I don't think people are as familiar with him.

I forgot about the Dr. Horrible so yes he could be a contender I was thinking all of whedonverse.

OK, this is exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not dissing young people, I'm really not. 🙂 But seriously- Scooby-Doo? The only reason I know about the Scooby Doo movie is because of my kids, and I have no desire to see it. It's abysmal. Give me the original cartoons anyday (which my kids love BTW). I am actually embaressed for SMG that that movie is in her repetoire. Not because it's a kid movie, there's plenty of great kids movies out. That is NOT one of them! So, Scooby-Doo is more "popular" or well-known than Bones?

Ok, first of all, I don't think Scooby Doo sucked that bad. Sure, it wasn't the best movie for kids, but it wasn't the worst. Scooby Doo is my fav cartoon since I was a kid, and I'm addicted to kid movies and cartoons, so when I heard SMG will be in Scooby Doo movie, I was excited. The first part was awesome, the second was was a little less awesome, but still, it was good. And no, I don't think Scooby Doo is better or popular than Bones.. but then again, how can you compare those two?

Well the original question was who is the biggest star of the Whedonverse, so that's what I was addressing. But as we can see from this thread, it's really all relative, and depends on your POV.

I know what the original question is, and I have answered it before. I just don't think it's fair to compare Scooby Doo and Bones to see who's the biggest star out of those two.. Bones is one of the best things in David's career, Scooby Doo is one of Sarah's worst.

Yes, I see what you're saying. Although to be fair, I'm not the one who brought up Scooby-Doo! :)

I don't think of Scooby do as to popular I mean I saw the previews but never really said oh I have to see that and it had Freddy and Matthew who I love. I don't think any one of my friends had ever seen it either which is kind of odd. I would rather think of her other movies as her hits because she did some strong acting.

Well I mean this thread was kind of about comparing and we have been comparing a lot like how I met your mother, Firefly etc so I thought it was okay to compare those two. Then again it is all based on POV. I am beginning to really think Nathan may be the biggest I forgot how long he was around jeez a while, so status wise he may be the biggest but for series wise I am going with David for all his seasons.
Does anyone remember seeing Sarah on All my Children?

Aly has been on a slew of shows. Rosanne, (I was watching and randomly saw her. Made my night.) That 70s show, The Simpsons to name a few. She was in movies before Buffy, then did Buffy, did movies (really big movies) during Buffy, and now is on HIMYM. People know her from all of those. (I love her on That 70s Show. 😛) Of course you all know I'm going to argue she's biggest.

Sarah is very, very well known. She was iconic in the late 90s and early 2000s. She was one of my heroes growing up, and still is, but she's known mainly for Buffy. Though Cruel Intentions is one of the best movies ever. I love it.

David is very well off, but when I say the name, few people know him. "Y'know, the guy that played Angel?" Then I get, "Oh! Yeah, the guy on Bones!"

Seth is extremely well known. Went from Buffy to Austin Powers (which were HUGE, and I own all of them) to Family Guy to Robot Chicken, which is in, I believe, it's 5th season? That's awesome. And SMG is on there a lot too.
