Angel Star to Play Superman?

Press reports say television vamp will sink teeth into red cape. So, is it goodbye fangs and hello Krypton for Angel? According to UK's Hello Magazine and Daily Express, David Boreanaz, star of The WB's Angel, has signed a three-picture deal to star in three Superman films for Warner Brothers and director Brett Ratner. If true, the deal would be for over $30 million for the actor's services in the three films. According to the reports, the films may be shooting in Australia.

Calls to Boreanaz's agent and manager for confirmation of the story weren't returned by press time. If one of television's favorite vampires does hang up the long coat in favor of a long, red cape, he will have beaten out some of Hollywood's young A-list for the part, including Josh Hartnett, That 70's Show star Ashton Kutcher, Jude Law and Brendan Fraser. According to the UK reports, current plans are for Boreanaz to continue his role in the popular vampire drama while performing his duties as The Man of Steel but with an anticipated mid-2003 start date, that may not be feasible. So, then, where does that leave Angel? The WB hasn't made a final decision whether or not it will renew the series but if it interferes with the potential revival of one of the studio's flagship franchises, look for the series to leave the schedule. Without its lead, there would be no chance of the series making the jump to UPN, leaving the rumored spin-off series the only hope for Buffy fans wanting more out of that franchise.

This is not good, if David chooses to play Superman that would be cool, but if that would mean no more Angel ... Buffy is allready stopping, they can't do this to us!

what's going on here? another superman movie, since when!? and david boreanaz looks nothing like superman! (not to me anyway)

there is no way he would quit angel to do a few movies, i mean not unless he really was a demon. buffy's going away, and firefly is gone (if you guys count that), there's just no way anyone would do that to us, no one could be that heartless!

All I can say is that not only David Boreanaz, but each and every ONE of those actors mentioned would make a HORRIBLE Superman. especially Jude Law. I recognize his acting skills, but the boy looks NOTHING like it.

Hey! They can't do that to us! Ok, I admit the thought of David in spandex is nice, but that's not fair! Angel has to continue. It's one of our only hopes after Buffy ends. If Angel ends, they are going to have some furious fans on their hands.

AHHHHH!!! you should use the spoiler tag... I hadn't read what TV guide said, I actually don't even see the promo in order to be completely clueless about what's gonna happen.... grrrrrrrr

What spoiler was mentioned? I haven't read any spoilers on this site or any other sources and there wasn't anything mentioned here that I didn't already know.

Edit: Except for the part about David signing up for Superman, that is. That, indeed, was new, though more a rumor than a spoiler.

I didn't read a spoiler neither

and David playin superman isn't a spoiler either!

28 FEBRUARY 2003

While Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar has decided to hang up her stakes, things are looking lively for her beau David Boreanaz. The hunky actor, who plays Angel in the popular series of the same name, has been signed up to play Superman in a new £80-million film about the comic book hero.

David, who you'll also recognise from the movie Valentine, beat British heart-throb Jude Law to the role. The contract, which commits the native New Yorker to two sequels, is worth a total of £30 million.

The 31-year-old first rose to fame playing Sarah Michelle Gellar's well-intentioned vampire beau in the original Buffy series. He proved so popular, however, that studio bosses decided to give him his own show, which also enjoyed great success.

The news of his new superhero incarnation comes in the wake of Sarah's announcement that she is quitting Buffy to concentrate on her movie career. The phenomenally popular series will draw to a close at the end of the current season, with an epic final show which has
Angel coming back into her life.
"We're gearing up to tell a fabulous, huge great arc," said Sarah, "It's going to be pretty spectacular."

David will continue working on Angel, although he admits that simultaneously playing both Superman and a vampire may prove tricky.

So, it looks like it won't mean the end of Angel too. Hopefully. 😉

Yup they did, and it wouldn't surprise me if they were totally wrong on this one either, I didn't say it *was* true, just quoted what Hello magazine were saying. 😉

David is NOT going to do Superman. I found this on countingdown.com:

"David Boreanaz recently shot down the rumors connecting him to Superman in an E! Live Chat, although the rumors weren't all that far off after all. Says Boreanaz, "I'll just kill the rumor now--it hasn't happened. I did go in and read for the part, but I can't do it because of my schedule with Angel."

NICE! I really don't think he was right for Superman either, if you ask me that dude from Joe Millionare is who should be doing it, but he probably can't act... 😀

I heard Marc Blucas (Riley Finn) was also up for the part at one time. He seems like a better fit.

That would be cool too, even better, we could have Angel, plus a B/A star in a big role!

I think they were talking at one time about doing a Superman vs. Batman movie.

How about Marc Blucas Superman--David Boreanaz as Batman? Make more sense?
