David hating Angel now?

I overheard a while ago that David hates talking about his role as Angel since the show when off the air. I understand that he's set his sights on other things, but it is the character that made him such a breakout star. What have you guys heard and what do you think about the subject?

David hates the Angel character? Proof indeed that David isn't a complete numbskull.

I think the guy deserves credit for being honest. At least he doesn't talk out of his ass about a character he's played, like most actors do to please their fans.

I think it is simply a case that the show is long finished now and he has moved on with his acting career. Given the chance, most actors are interested in talking about the work they are doing now and what they will be doing in the future, not dwelling on work they have already done. The same applies to musicians and artists and writers.

I can imagine that Boreanaz has no intention of allowing his career to be sabotaged by becoming typecast as Angel forever.

I saw on the fornt of the buffy magazine (the UK one) that they had an exclusive interview with David Boreanaz, and he talks about angel and Bones and stuff...I haven't tread it, cos that magazine is way to expensive for stuff that you can find out on the net for free, but its this months magazine....so he mustn't hate talking about Angel that much...

I think it is a case of him being fed up of being asked about Angel all the time!
He did speak on Angel in a recent interview, but i guess he's only happy talking about the character when the focas isn't enterly on him! (Angel)

To the best of my knowledge, neither Sarah nor David have gone out of their way to comment on their Whedon-created characters. I'm sure they are both worried about being type cast as their respective characters, which is about the worst thing that can happen to a professional actor interested in playing diverse rolls (Sean Connery was type cast as James Bond, and it took him literaly decades to get past the 007 persona. John Wayne, in his later years, wanted to make movies that didn't involve horses and broad brimmed hats, but the few he made were barely profitable. Max Baer jr became so type cast as Jethro on the Beverly Hillbillies tv show that he was never able to make the public believe that he could be anything but a big, dumb, lovable clod. The list goes on and on). Neither of them seem to travel the sci fi/fantasy convention circuit. Sarah made one appearence trying to plug the Grudge, and she wound up answering more questions about Buffy than the movie she had just made. Certainly, both actors want to develop other characters. This is understandable. As long as they show courtesy to their various fans (the people who made them what they are, after all), I have no problem with them attempting to disassociate themselves from the world of vampires and Slayers.

I understand that they don't want to be type-casted but for us fans it's nice to see them show interest in a series that actually helped their careers. I mean, David doesn't seem to hate his character Angel as much as Sarah hates Buffy. And David goes to comic-con conventions, well one I know of and I think that was last year. I also met him at a convention a few years ago and he seemed really happy to see all the fans.

I heard he was really upset when the show was canceled (ms) but I guess he eventually gave up hope on it coming back. As for Sarah there were rumors that she wanted to leave the show in season 5! And maybe David doesn't like talking about it a lot but that doesn't mean he hates the show. At least I hope so because it breaks my heart when the main characters hate the shows they used to do and that I love!

it really grates my cheese when actors (who were basically made by the shows they do) don't seem to care about maintaining any connection to those characters once the show ends. i would hope that they'd hold some part of the show dear to them, other than simply casting it aside like it was some kind of burden they're trying to quickly get away from. i mean, it's not like they have to always talk about their past shows (because as fans, we shouldn't really expect that. it's done, it's over... we can let them move on), but if asked some questions in an interview, they should at least address them with some sincerity. it always seems to be the major stars of the show too. like sarah just wants to completely forget 'buffy', but in all truthfulness, most of stuff she's done recently hasn't been a step up at all. and david, i don't think he HATES 'angel', it's just, it's really the main role he most well-known for, and i do think he's afraid of being typecasted. but he's got a successful career going on for him right now. however, it kind of annoys me when actors think they get too big for the shows that made them huge stars, that they wouldn't even come back to do a special or a reunion show, or do interviews for dvds (cough, sarah, cough), or attend conventions, etc. c'mon actor guys... you still have a huge fan following... who probably make up a huge number of the people watching any of their current projects. at least recognize past work... that's all im saying ::huff:

I doubt talking or not talking about a breakout character in interviews has any real effect on whether an actor ends up typecast or not. It probably has a lot more to do with how good an actor s/he is, the agent, connections, follow-up character choices, and luck. However, if an actor does end up typecast against his or her wishes then I guess developing a resentment for the original character might be understandable. As for David, he's done a bunch of different stuff since his Angel days - besides, no one ever gets typecast as a vamp...

now that David is on Bones i don't think he should be worried about typecasting any longer because Booth and Angel are NOT alike
and neither should SMG she's done alot of things since Buffy and they're almost opposite of who Buffy was

i doubt David hates Angel though

i don't think he's being typecast at all, i dont think thats why people ask him so much about it. it's just angel was his first major character, and he's going to be asked about it for the rest of his life because it pretty much brought him into the spotlight. im sure he's tired of it but i mean, thats how it is with a lot of t.v. actors especially, people will always think of them as the first character they ever played. Besides, angel was so dynamic and awesome (not to say Booth isn't awesome either!) and people can't let it go because i think angel was such an interesting character. i do understand the being tired of it, but i don't think it's ever going to change for him and im not sure if it's 100% a bad thing is all.

Not sure if it's ture or not , although , I belive he should be proud of the show and the role he played , he did an amazing job and it got him even where he is today and many more thing's coming , although , yes , he does have the right to be pissed about them getting rid of the show , Im sure all the fan's are , I know I am , I adore it , even tho , Im new to the show .

You gotta admit, Angel was annoying sometimes and I can see why David would dislike the character... He has the right to speak up and say what he thinks of the character like we ALL do.

I agree with you but at the same time, I understand where David is coming from if he did say that. Yes, it was his first major role, but he's a great actor, and I personally would hate it if people always thought of me as the first major role that I played, I'd want people to recognize me as being a good actor, not as being Angel, and I think that's what he's saying, he's on to new things, it would be respectful to him to say "well yeah you did a great job as playing Angel, but your roles on Bones and in Valentine were just as dynamic." I'm sure he doesn't hate Angel, I'm sure he's very greatful for the doors it opened up for him, but it's kind of like talking to Labron James and only talking about his high school basketball career.

I understand that someone wants to separate themselves from their character, and that's fine. Also, totally understandable. However... hate is a very strong word to use when talking about something that rose his star from zero to cult phenomenon.

I agree with this.
It is to be expected with a fairly new actor though who went to stardom virtually overnight to be asked about that character often.
I'm sure he is professional enough to understand that and is anxious for more Bones coverage just for something new to say.

Seeley is just about as opposite from Angel as you can get.
In fact, since T.J. Thyne (Jack Hodgins) was with David on the last season of Angel so I wonder if some friendships were developed there and carried over into Bones. I've never looked to see how many other stars came from Whedonverse other than Tamara Taylor (Cam Saroyan) from the Serenity movie.

I know quite a few have been on Supernatural.
