David talks about the cancellation

thanks but please post the interview instead of just providing a link to it.

Angel gets staked

Just weeks after the drama series Angel celebrated its 100th episode, fans were stunned to hear it had been quietly cancelled by the Warner Bros network. But for its star, David Boreanaz, it was not all bad news after five seasons of playing TV's vampire with a soul.

Were you shocked or surprised when you heard the show was cancelled?
I really wasn't shocked or surprised. This is the way the business is. Like I said when I started the show, I worked on scene to scene, show to show. My commitment to it was 22 episodes each season, and when that's done I'd consider it over. So it was actually a big relief for me and, personally, it gave me a big sense of freedom. I felt like a big weight had been lifted from my shoulders.

Why is that?
When you do 100 episodes and you're carrying a show, it's a lot of pressure. People rely on you for their jobs "“ the camera people, the craft services people, the lighting people. Yet you really owe it to yourself to examine what's right and what's wrong for you as an artist. I don't owe anybody anything "“ I owe myself and my family. So for me, I feel like, "˜Oh, I don't have to hold that cross anymore.' As heavy as it may be or as light as it may be, it's not a negative. It's a good thing!

How did you feel about the petition to save the show?
I felt bad for the fans. When the producers took the show and re-tooled it in a way that took it in a different direction, it should have been the responsibility of the network to put a keen interest into it during that time. So I don't think they handled it in the classiest way. And the fans are the people the network really screwed over.

Will you keep any of the props or memorabilia from the show?
I'll keep a few things, but nothing major. There aren't any of (Angel's) suits I'd wear.

You came back for the end of Buffy. Could Sarah Michelle Gellar come back for the Angel finale?
If it happened it would be great, but I'm not generally in favour of "reunions" because there is no reason to go back. It took a lot to get me to do Buffy. At one point I really didn't want to do it, but as a favour to Sarah I did it.

Is your wife (actress Jaime Bergman) pleased you'll be home more with her and your son?
She's not home that much either now her career is starting to bite. But I do hope to be home more with my wife and son because I'm not on set for nine months of the year. That is one thing about the show I won't miss.

Even though I like David and all thats something that always really bothered me about him is that he always just went scene to scene and season to season, never really cared that much about the show(as it seems)

I'm sure he did, very did but is able to detach himself for Angel. I never read an interview where he said that he wanted to leave or have more money. He was always like: "I love playing Angel because he has so many aspects that I'm not tired of it." But, when we think about it, David is playing this role for 8 seasons! More than Sarah or Charisma... after playing the same character for 8 years, I'm not surprised that he's happy to move on(and he say it with more class than Sarah). Finally, there's is child....

I say thank you David for all these years(and all the cast and crew of Angel)

I think he cares for the show, but he can't just start crying during the interview😛
Maybe he doesn't want to say how much he's gonna miss playing Angel...if we know he feels bad,we're gonna feel bad too...but,that's just my opinion

I know he cares for the show, he just never really seems that intrested in what goes on aroudn the show somtimes. And yes David has played the charecter of Angel for 8 years but SMG and Charisma have been playing their charecters longer then he has(since Angel wasnt in every episode of Buffy S1-3)

I had some hope for Angel season 6 lately, but this really put a damper on it. I think David is done. Even if they negotiate a sixth season, I doubt he'll come back. Prehaps we can have a Spike spinoff...I can dream can't I?

i still think its a long time to playing a character. he also did films during that time and i think he'll be glad of the long break.

I get why he wants to get away from it, but I hate it, how he is dettached from the whole thing. He seems more interested in his wife and child then in us... now that I put it like that, it doesn't seem all that weird.

He probably does care, but he also cares about his wife and son, and he's probably grateful for the chance to spend more time with them...

Was David's interview real?

This interview might not be real. I found this on cityofgangel board.

tvweek is a bad tabloid magazine. Interviews are taken out of context ... and
in general its just ****. Never ever take anything they print to heart or even
with any ounce of truth.

the only reason one would buy such magazine is because they lost their tvguide
that comes free in the sunday papers. Its not even worth the paper that its
printed on. Or the $2.50 that it is (or was - might have gone up) ... Or you
have followed the link to their website.

so take it with a grain of salt, i 'spose.

ok were getting lots of fed back on all site this looks like a damn tabiold
causing trouble I ve spoken to an aussie friend too and other this one is bad
for doing this

I've been reading some of the other boards and I'm just not so sure this interview is legit. I know it sounds like something David would say, but these people have probably read a lot of his interviews too. And if the interview is by Jenny Cooney Carrillo then why did she give it to TV Week and not Dreamwatch? And where does it say it's by her anyway? It's so hard to tell what's for real on the 'net.

i don't understand why he would hide it, he shouldn't have to feel ashamed caring about the ending of angel, i mean he doesn't have to freak out about the cancellation either, but really that interview was harsh as far as his thoughts on the show, he was more understanding about the fans though, which is awesome. guess he just really isn't a big fan of the show himself ::uh:: which is understandable, as he says it's a lot of work, and a long time, i bet i wouldn't be that big of a fan if i was one of the characters. ::dk::
