Dawn And Spike

It was never actually mentioned during the season, in fact they were almost never seen speaking after the scene from "From Beneath You It Devours," but, do you think that Dawn and Spike ever became friends again?

I was actually looking forward to seeing how Dawn would react to Spike having a soul but like you said, they hardly even talked. 🙁 Maybe they couldn't fit it in with everything else that was going on.

I don't think Dawn and Spike ever became as close friends as before. I do thing that Dawn accepted it as time went buy, and slowly got used to having Spike around again.

I don't think they were even really in any seasons together after Dawn threatened Spike, but I think they may have had to at least become aquainted better again, after all with so much going on, they couldn't really do with rifts between the Scoobies. I don't think they were really as close as they had been in prior seasons, but I'm sure Dawn was glad to see Spike with his soul.

I think they might have become friends, if it wasn't for the kicking Buffy out. I think Dawn's role in that would have put the nail in the coffin of their closeness (not their entire friendship, though). Dawn wouldn't trust Spike because of what he tried to do to Buffy, and Spike would be cranky with Dawn for what she did to Buffy. All in all, not a good situation.

Sadly, I don't think Dawn ever forgave him. Dawn was different. Unlike the rest of the Scoobies, Dawn loved, trusted, and respected Spike before he got the soul. She believed in him then and thought he could be a good man then. For the others, accepting Spike as different after getting the soul and coming to terms with heinous actions committed pre-soul is probably a little easier. With the possible exception of Buffy herself (and even that is up for debate), the Scoobies never expected anything better from Spike. Dawn did. soul or no soul, I think Dawn feels like Spike broke her trust. I'm not sure they had time to repair that trust before Spike died.

I think so. I think after Dawn saw how Buffy had forgiven him, she did too. After all, Dawn always liked Spike. He understood her, and treated her normally.

This is a good point. Hadn't thought of that. I'm always just thinking about what could have happened off-screen between the two. I imagine a reconciliation happened. But I DO believe, given adequate time, she would have forgiven him. Eventually.

I don't think, at that point, Spike would have told her why he was brought back, but he might have apologized to Dawn for everything that had happened. I could see her forgiving him. But Michelle's schedule was booked, so they brought in Andrew instead. Too bad we never got that reconciliation.

I dont think she ever truly trusted Spike again during S7 and the two never made up. She saw what Bufy was like during S6 and then to hear that Spike almost made things worse just made her look at him differently and during all of S7 she just didnt care about trying to be friends with him again. Maybe now she might accept him again and look at him as an ally and friend but S7, no.

Like many others, I agree with palabra. I think that Dawn would have completely forgiven Spike now, and value his sacrifice for the world. It would be interesting to know what could have happened with their friendship in the future.

Hopefully, if we EVER get the long promised and not delivered crossover between the two comics, the writers will alot a few panels to both a Spike and Dawn moment AND a Spike and Giles moment where the Watcher finally admits, reluctantly and with much polishing of glasses, that he had completely misjudged Spike and apologize for his actions during the latter part of Season 7.

(And I still say a Spike/Faith arc, with or without any action other than Slaying, would be great)

I loved the friendship Spike and Dawn had, and although I completely understand why she was so angry with him, I would have loved to see them make up eventually.

I think it was The Girl in Question that Michelle was supposed to guest star in. Wish she'd been available. Would have been very interesting to see Dawn/Spike interaction (and Dawn/Angel interaction for that matter).

I loved their friendship so much, it made me so sad to never get to see them really be friendly again. However in my mind I imagine some offscreen bonding between them. Though the realist in me agrees with most people that she accepted his presence but things were never the same. It would have been great to see her in The Girl In Question. An interaction between them would have been great and I agree it would be great to see her interact with Angel as they know each other but we've never seen them talk.

I wish someone would ask Joss what he planned on doing between Dawn and Spike if he had the time/if she had guest starred. It would be interesting to know what the Buffy Gods thought about it.

I wonder how Dawn would have felt if she had known what Xander had done to Buffy back in S1 . . . or what Buffy tried to do to Spike in "Gone". It's a pity that Xander or Buffy never fessed up.

Also I don't think Buffy was trying to hurt Spike in Gone, she was just messing with him and I think had every intention of letting him know it was her if he didn't figure it out.

I totally agree. There's a great big difference between what Xander and Buffy did and Spike's attempted rape. They can't be comparable.

I disagree - in fact, I see it as the complete opposite. Xander was "possessed" when he assaulted Buffy in S1, and Spike was without soul when he tried it in S6. What's the big diff? Why can't they be comparable? Because "UN"possessed Xander would NEVER... and Spike with a soul would NEVER.

A hyena spirit that possesses a human body is not the same as being brought back by a vampire. Xander's body was entirely taken over by an animal spirit that didn't allow him any control over his body. Spike, on the other hand, was the same vampire who fell in love with Buffy, took care of Dawn and the Scoobies in the summer, helped saving the world with the Scoobies... he wasn't possessed by anything. If we're gonna excuse every bad thing Spike does because he's a soulless vampire, then the Scoobies shouldn't hang out with him in the first place. What if he lost control again? They shouldn't treat him like an equal because he doesn't have a soul.

I don't remember Xander trying to rape Buffy in "The Pack" from season 1.

Of course, I've only watched that episode once when I was originally watching through season one, 3 months ago.
