Dawn in "Older and Far Away"

Did anybody else not like Dawn in "Older and Far Away"? I mean I get she's just a teenager with very little friends except for the Scooby Gang and Buffy, but still. She was such a brat in season 6 even worse than she was in season 5. The whole Kleptomaniac drama she had going on with the Magic Box
 
I think that, by taking all this stuff she just deeply wanted to be noticed. She didn't feel like she was part of the gang because she was younger. She was overprotected by Buffy but didn't take the time to understand why, because she didn't like the situation. She wanted to be a grown-up, just like the others. And I'm pretty sure all the kids at her school thought she was weird, since she was the Slayer's sister (I guess school wasn't always easy for her). She was probably just feeling really alone.

We didn't see much of Dawn without the Scoobygang before S7, so nobody knows if she had friends or if she just knew some kids and tried to be part of a gang..
 
I think this is the episode where Dawn is most annoying (THAT'S SAYING A LOT). I especially hated when she said, "I'm glad you're trapped. How else can I get anyone to spend any time with me?"

I don't get why she was so upset that everyone didn't want to be stuck in the house forever. lol. What a brat.

She was lonely, angry, dramatic, and a teenager. It really didn't surprise me. It was annoying and a bit over the top, but...not that far off from some actual teenagers I know. Teenagers who haven't been through half of what Dawn has, which is just...unsettling.
 
Well she was dramatic in a way that only a teenager can be, and even if I found that annoying, I mostly felt kind of sad for her. Usually I find her to be an irritating brat but in this particular episode... I don't know. I guess it all comes down to Halfrek's line for me:

Halfrek: Sling all the little barbs at me that you want, Anyanka, it doesn't change the fact that this girl was in pain, and none of you could hear it. I could hear her crying out everywhere I went in this town. It was unbearable. And none of you knew.

Every teenager is prone to overreaction but at this point Dawn certainly was rather neglected by the people around her... so in this episode I guess I kind of feel for her. Personally I'm not sure "none of them knew".... I kind of feel like none of them wanted to know
 
i agree she was lonely

besides i know of many teenagers who even today does'nt always age their age it can be very annoying. Some seems to age like a lil kid and some tries acting way older then they really are so yeah i got to say Dawn was just lonely.
 
Dawn pretty much annoys me all the time, but she was exceptionally annoying in this episode because she was so whiney. I just feel like she acts so much more immature than her age all of the time and needs to be told to grow-up and get over it.

On the flip side, Buffy is pretty much checked out at this point and she isn't paying enough attention to Dawn. But Dawn (and most of the Scoobies, for that matter) never stopped to try to sympathize with what Bufy was dealing with either. There was basically a complete lack of communication going on here.

It always bugged me that Dawn had no social life outside of Buffy and her friends. I mean, the girl is 15 or 16 and has absolutely no friends? Not a one? Time to join a club or something. She is obviously looking for companionship.
 
I don't know about anyone else, but this is one of my favorite episodes. Dawn was being her typical self, but as @Taake said, I actually felt sorry for her.

But I cannot even think of her "get out, get out, get out!" scene without thinking about [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tvD80aiLYE&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]this.[/ame] 😀

During my last Buffy re-watch this episode is actually the episode that made me go from hating Dawn to loving her as one of my favourite characters. She was very, very lonely and depressed. The show didn't focus on it as much as they did with Buffy's depression, but in ways she was worst off than Buffy. The last scene where Buffy was closing the front door after everyone left and just as the door closes you see Dawn smile. I instantly became a fan :3
