I was just listening to the Josh Whedon commentary for the Season 4 finale on DVD. He mentioned that there was a reference in a dream sequence to Dawn (Though not by name) at the end of Season 3.

Anyone know which episode in Season 3 this is?
 
Graduation Day. When Faith's in the coma, and Buffy is still unconscious in hospital, they share a dream, and there is reference to Dawn. 🙂
 
At one point in the dream Faith says, "Oh yeah. - Miles to go - Little Ms. Muffet counting down from 7-3-0." And there is a cat on the bed.

And in Real Me, when Dawn is outside The Magic Box alone, a crazy guy comes up to her and says (amongst other ramblings), "That's why I'm a cat." & "I know you. Curds and whey."

So, there's the connection, with the nursery rhyme. Faith was referring to Dawn when she said 'Little Ms. Muffet.' And then the '7-3-0' part, 730 days is exactly two years. And exactly two years after the episode Graduation Day Part 2, is the episode The Gift. When 'The Key' - Dawn's blood would be used to open the portal. And then my guess would be that the 'counting down' part means counting down from when the blood begins to when it stops, because the portal wouldn't close until all of the blood had flowed into it. And the other connection is between the cat on Faith's bed and the crazy guy saying he is a cat.

And also, in Restless, the finale in between the two, there are other references to Dawn, want me to explain those as well? 🙂

Yeah ofcourse. I love secret facts. I didn't know about 730 and the cat thing🙂
 
Wow, I never knew that! Thats really cool! Is there any other refences a bit like that throughout the whole Buffy saga?
 
In Restless, Buffy's dream has her standing in a bedroom over a dishelved bed. Next to her is Tara, who is her guide. Buffy tells Tara that she and Faith had just made that bed, so obvisiouly someone was sleeping there. Then, Buffy notices that time on the clock that read "7:30." Buffy says that cannot be right, and Tara tells her that the clock is never right on time.(So, the "time" on the clock isn't a reference to actual time, but the number of days.) Buffy then says that she has to go find the rest of the Scoobie Gang, but as she leaves Tara reminds her "to get back before Dawn."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the girl on the bed was Faith, not Dawn. 😕
 
It's actually going to be very interesting to see what happens when Faith and Dawn finally meet up. I think it could end up being no coincidence that all these references involve both of them.
 
All this foreshadowing is so cool... I hope the show uses it again because I love how it's like little puzzles for your mind to figure out! I swear, every time I watch "Restless" I pick up on something else. I love all of the episodes with crazy dream sequences and stuff like that! I just recently watched "No Place Like Home" again and the trance Buffy did in that was cool too. Oh yeah, back to "Restless," wasn't it weird how in Xander's dream Giles was teaching Spike to be a watcher and said "Spike's always been like a son to me" and then in "Tabula Rasa" they think they really are father and son... hmm... 😉
 
Heres another part of restless that tells the future. The part of gile's dream where spike has hired himself out as an attraction would seem to tell of Spike hiring himself out to buffy all the time and how he later kills demons. Also in season 5 and 6 spike becomes a side show in his deeds, meaning he's different than before. Hope that makes sense.

Well might have been I suppose, but I paused it and it looked like Faith in her hospital-gown to me. 🙂 (You know, as she was when she was in the coma)
 
I was watching the beginning of Restless again the other day, the part where Tara and Willow are talking. She is looking at Miss Kitty and saying " I think it's strange. I mean I think I should worry that we haven't found her name". I think they are talking about Dawn there too. In the audio commentary Joss says that he intended Tara to be a kind of earthly guide for Dawn. In the dream Tara, whether or not she is speaking for the first slayer, seems to know more about Dawn than everyone else.
Restless is by far my favorite episode.
