Yea, I can see your point, and I didn't mean to cause any huge thing. I was just saying that she wasn't my favorite character, but I do think that you're right about them wanting her to be a very annoying, bratty sister. Didn't mean to cause trouble!!

I agree with you there. I have no dislike whatsoever for Michelle because of her role in buffy. I mean I don't hate Gina Torres just because she was in Cleo 2525 😛. Harriet the spy is one of my favourite childhood movies, and Michelle did an excellent job in it.
 
Here are some of the things I liked about Dawn.

* Michelle Trachtenberg is a great actress.

* The friction caused by Dawn created interesting situations.

* It was a clever way to make Buffy appear instantly older, and move out of her youthful years into her more responsible adult years.

* The Dawn character was a great vehicle for the ME writers to make use of their snarky wit.

* I liked the relationships that resulted Dawn/Spike big brother thing, Dawn/Tara big sister, and Buffy became almost a mother.

* She came in handy because she could react to things like Joyce's death, and Buffy's breakup in ways that Buffy had to keep buried being the character she was.

* The little sister thing was an interesting dynamic, and the grating little sister was honest.

Don't worry, from what i've been reading it wasn't you who caused any trouble. I made a point, you debated it, i debated back, no big deal.

It's the people who consider other people's opinions to be :lame: if they aren't exactly the same as theirs that are the problem. 😉

Agreeing with your list of reasons to like Dawn, N4H. I'd add ...

* Because Dawn in season seven was incredibly hot

... but that might be kinda superficial of me! 🙂
 
I didn't really mind Dawn that much, I think that she was a good addition to the show, and that she portrayed the sometimes annoying little sister act VERY well!! :tongue2:
 
i understand why they introduced Dawn besides the story arc of season 5. Then when buffy's mum died it was good she still had a family member. Dawn kept her going more than most other people.
However, she was still my least favourite character. She was better in season 7 because there were other whiny annoying teenage girls that took the focus away from her. But still dont like the character.
 
Am I the only one who absolutely loves Dawn? Apparently...hm. Basically, I'll agree that she was an annoying teenage girl. Definitely one of the reasons I like her. She reminded me of...me, when I was 14. I laugh at Season 5 Dawn, and her tactlessness and clumsiness was really funny. ok, I'll agree that her annoyingness (is that a word?) didn't move the story along at all...at least not until Blood Ties. Then her stupid idea of running away got her to the hospital with Ben and led to the big show-down at the end of the episode. But that doesn't really have anything to do with whether or not I like her character. I like her because over three years, she grew up. She didn't start out being the "super-cool" little sister. She started out being what little sisters are (and I should know, I am one!) annoying (on purpose) clumsy (not on purpose) and occasionally sweet. And she became a funny, smart, brave, humble young woman. And I liked watching that come about.

I also liked watching her transformation. She became quite a strong person with oodles of potential.
I've actually started loving Dawn. At first I hated her, I really thought she was going to ruin the show for me... But that was before I really understood what season 5 was about and before I ever saw the Real Me episode. So I just think I never understood Dawn.. because I couldn't see me in her at all. I mean in the later seasons she is actually the character closest to my age and I guess I should recognize something of me in her, I mean understand her 'cause I'd just been through those years but there's probably no one in the world more un-like me than Dawn... I just didn't think she was a believable character, or teenager... But then again, I am/was not the ideal teenager I guess so, well... Now I like her and stuff so.
 
I didnt know what to think of her at first. She popped out of nowhere. After a couple of her first episodes I thought she was evil. lol. Cause she said, "She thinks im just her bratty kid sister. Boy is she wrong." Or something like that. And that fact that she popped out of nowhere! Evil! I did find her annoying at times, but the assumed evilness kinda blocked that out, so it didnt bother me. But after I found out she was the key I didnt really have any good or bad feelings towards her. Then after Dawn found out she was the key and was going through all those emotional break downs, I started to like her, cause i could relate. In the last season I loved her cause she became all mature, the annoyingness went away, and she learned to deal with being a key.
 
I really like Dawn. I think she is a great character, and she really grew through seasons 5, 6, and 7. I'll admit that she was really bratty in season 5, but I don't care. Angel was broody in season 1 and Buffy was depressed and mean in season 6, and they're still good characters 🙂

I guess I think that Dawn really added a lot to the show, maybe not at the beginning, but she brought a lot to the show. Not only was she the key, but she really brought a lot of emotion to the show. Buffy kind of froze up and stopped showing emotion by then.
 
Personaly Dawn is like onw of my FAVORITE characters... I don't think that they brought her on the show for "youth" because let's face it they were all pretty young. She acted like an annoying little sister...that's what they all do. And buffy acted whiny and annoying right back...that's how sisters are. I mean if you ask me Buffy was kinda hard on her at first when she was all, " When i was her age I was saving the world..." and acctualy Buffy didnt slay till she was like 16 or something. So Dawn delt with Demony things since she was pretty young. For a kid that stuffs scary even just to hear about so that musta been tought. I mean she had a really hard life.

1. Parents devorce and her dad practicaly doesnt talk to them.
2. Buffy gets in alot of trouble so it musta seamed like Buffy got all the attention.
3. Sister is the slayer.
4. She finds out she's not real...that would be hard for ANYONE to take even like Buffy.
5. Her mom dies.
6. An evil god wants to kill her!
7. Her sister and last REAL family member (dnt count her dad) dies. She prob blamed herself cuz Buffy saved her wich was Buffys own choice and not her fault.
8. Her sister comes back all screwed up and ignore her basically.
9. Willow who is like a second sister to her, goes all black magicy and scares the crap outa her and gets her hurt.
10. The world almost ends again and she fights.

not to mention the numerouse people who leave her life. For a young kid thats confusing and hard, people coming in and out...she has no constant. Anya, Angle, SPike, Buffy, WIllow, Giles, Her mom, her dad, Riley,and so on.... have all left at some ponit. SHe is also important because up until she arrived the whole Scoobie gang only had to worrie about themselves and the world...like they weren't responsible for outside things...even like school they eventuall "took a break from." But wen Dawn came she made them all like become responsible for her in a way...especially wen Joyce died. SHe had ties to EVERYONE.
Buff- they were SOOOO cute as sisters...like on the finale wen buffy didnt get on teh bus, Dawn kept looking backand hopeing. ANd wen she said dont say anything cuz it will all sound like goodbye.
Willow- Dawn looked up to her SOOOOOO much and like willow thought of her almost as a version of herself.
Anya- they became prett close the last season and were together alot.
Spike- she was like the only one who didnt constanly put him down...she was like his best friend and they were so cute.
Xander- I'll correct myseflt because she did have one constant in her life...him. He was always there and like she had a crush on him in the begining but then he was like her big bro and he always looked out for her. The scene in potential was SOOOOO amazing and like at the end they totally stuck together!

I think she is an amazing character and Michelle is a GREAT actress. Dawn grew soooooooo much as a character...from a somewhat clutsy and whiny little kid who was shelterd from everything...to a strong, good fighting, well imformed, member of the team that was a great asset and would do anyhting for the ppl she loved. I kno i seam pushy but its only because ppl just look at the obviouse things...and like she's a graet character...so obv i'm a Yay not a neh!

Well, for some people, that makes them like the character of Dawn more, because the role was well acted. Some people also just mention it as a side note that they like Michelle Trachtenberg. Just because this thread is about liking or disliking the character of Dawn doesn't mean that Michelle's name can't even be mentioned in passing, does it?

i loved the character of dawn. she really livened up the place.
yes, she got a little bratty during the 6th season, but i think most 15 year olds would act like that if their sister's were acting like buffy.
but she grew up so much in the last season, i can't help but think she's a great character. def one of my faves.
 
I found Dawn really annoying in 5 and 6 cause she had to turn everything around and make it about her. Then in 7 I actually didnt have a problem with her until she turned on Buffy when the potentials were wanting Faith to be in charge or whatever So I really didnt like her anymore again after that.

I know that she was very important to the show, because after Mrs. Summers died buffy needed someother form of family life but i just felt that Dawn was for ever getting in the way and could compete with the scooby gang. I loved MT playing her though.
The one thing i did like about dawn was her relationship between her and spike.

Interestingly enough I saw a season 7 episode that showed Dawnie in a good light. It was episode 2 and She was asking Spike if he slept. We all remember that moment. For me that was an additional turning point. I really liked her at the end of season six when she helped Buffy slay and the character followed it up by this truly strong moment with Spike. It was very akin to the moment in Family that made me like her. Too bad she screwed it all up by kicking Buffy out later on that season but she's had her varying redeeming moments. However I don't think they outweigh her annoying ones. I still wish Buffy threw Dawn in at the end of The Gift.

Yeah, me too! LOL. To be honest i can't remember season 7, it's the only one i havn't seen scince it aired.
