Day One

So while *Stalking* erm...I mean looking at what David Lyons (ER Actor and my new obsession/love) was up to I stumbled upon "Day One".

In the aftermath of a global event that devastates the world's infrastructures, a small band of survivors strives to rebuild society and unravel the mysteries of why the event took place and what the future has in store. Told from the point of view of an eclectic group of neighbors in a Van Nuys, California apartment building, this journey of survival will show us that hope is found in the smallest of victories and heroes are born every day.

From executive producer/writer Jesse Alexander (Heroes, Lost, Alias) and director Alex Graves (Fringe) comes this epic adventure that starts on Day One.

Kelly (Julie Gonzalo)
Every show needs a strong protagonist, and Kelly, who has an air of Kate 'Lost' Austen about her, fills those shoes for Day One. She's smart, young, and she's medically trained - which just might come in handy with all the casualties in the pilot. Oh, and she's harbouring a rather tragic secret, which may hinder others' chances of survival. Kelly's also fighting a growing attraction to her neighbour, Sam, who serves as protagonist number two.

Sam (David Lyons)
Sam's the neighbourhood stud who quickly proves he has a bit of a brain as well. He works in a bank and he's a respectable citizen on the outside, but naturally he has a bit of dark streak - along with a few hidden secrets. His story is intertwined with his brother's, who's even darker than Sam. He's undoubtedly the hero of the piece, but does he have it in him to save everyone?

Zach & Bonnie (Adam Campbell & Carly Pope)
Zach and Bonnie are the resident geeks - and their computer wizardry may prove invaluable during the crisis. It's almost as if they were selected for the job... They provide some comic relief as well as filling the tempestuous couple role. They seem pretty tight, but while Bonnie shies away from the action, Zach is rather excited by the events that unfold. Oh, and they're part of a wider ring of internet tech-heads who are all provided with strange devices shortly before the drama hits.

Johnny & Hunter (Derek Mio & Addison J. Timlin)
Caught in their very own Romeo & Juliet-style story, Johnny and Hunter spend much of the opening sequences avoiding her parents Jennifer and Clarke (played by The Shield's Catherine Dent and Xander Berkeley of 24 fame). Johnny's a bit of a bad boy, and Hunter bears a slight resemblance - at least on paper - to ClaireBear from Heroes. When Hunter's life is on the line, Johnny's quick to jump to her rescue. But when her father is near-fatally injured, she ditches Johnny, proving she's a daddy's girl at heart.

Lynne (Thekla Reuten)
Holed up in her apartment more often than not, Lynne's definitely a loner. And while on her own, she's been keeping mysterious notes on each and every one of the Liberty Park residents. Lynne's on a one-woman mission to... well, we're not entirely sure what she's up to. She appears to be recruiting 'soldiers' for the big event - a big event that, if her shiftiness is anything to go by, she knew about in advance. But is she one of the good guys gals? Or does she have a sinister master-plan? One thing's for sure: she plays a bigger part in the drama than you'd realise. As she puts it at the end of the pilot, "I chose each and every one of you."

NBC is cutting its order on midseason sci-fi thriller "Day One," opting to air the show as a four-hour event movie instead.

"Day One" will still bow following the net's coverage of the Winter Olympics but will no longer run as a 13-episode series, as originally planned.

Move is likely a cost-cutting measure, as NBC will be able to judge the performance of the "Day One" mini before deciding whether to proceed with a series.

Indeed, Peacock execs said "Day One" could still morph into a series for next season should the event perform well. Network compares the strategy to how sister cabler Sci Fi (now Syfy) launched "Battlestar Galactica," which was revived as a three-hour project before being redeveloped into a new series.

Move comes just days after ABC opted to launch its own sci-fi thriller, "V," as a four-hour event in November. But unlike with "Day One," the Alphabet hasn't cut "V's" order and still plans to air nine more segs in midseason.

Peacock execs said they've always looked at "Day One" as more of an event, hence the decision to launch it out of the post-Olympics fanfare.

Two hours of "Day One" have already been shot. Creator and exec producer Jesse Alexander is now prepping the second two hours to wrap up some storylines, while leaving a few loose threads open for a potential series.

"I've been in discussions with the network for some time about the best way to launch what I truly feel is an awesome television program," Alexander said.

Scribe added that he felt the post-Olympics slot would give the show "all the promotional power it needs for great success."

NBC is still mulling how to schedule the four-hour event -- but it's likely to be broken up into two two-hour segments airing the same week. The Vancouver Winter Olympics conclude on Sunday, Feb. 28, so conceivably part one of the "Day One" mini could air the next night, March 1.

Peacock will probably not want to run part one of "Day One" on the following Sunday, March 7, as that's Oscar night on rival ABC.

What do people think?, I thought the trailer was interesting and I think I'll tune it to see how it is. After Lost has finished I'll be looking for a new show to fill it's boots and this looks promising.
