A state senator in Florida filed a bill this year that would move that state onto standard time year-round. A state representative in South Carolina wants to put the question to voters on the November 2018 ballot.

Massachusetts and Maine are taking it a step further. Not only do they want to drop Daylight Saving Time, they also want to jump ahead an hour year-round by moving from Eastern Time to Atlantic Time. Both states - and New England as a whole - have been working to attract more millennials, but leaders tell the Wall Street Journal that millennials consistently complain about how early it gets dark there during the winter months. Officials hope the time zone switch would help solve that problem.

Currently, Arizona and Hawaii are the only states in the nation that don't observe Daylight Saving Time.

About time! Not sure if I'm down on that whole Atlantic time fiasco, but they seriously need to ditch DST. I mean, no one really cares about the whinging millennials but if their collectives le sighs and sleepy memes mean the end of DST then maybe there are good folk afterall.

Incorrect. It's Daylight Savings Time, not Devil's Standard Time... but that does sound pretty metal.

Plus DST is a health risk. #truth. There have been many studies on it.

Daylight Saving Time was originally adapted to supposedly allow farmers more time to work in their fields, or some such thing, and it was supposed to apply to just the summer, or growing, season. Then, back during Nixon's administration, it was lengthened to what is currently the case as a way to save energy (don't ask me how) As it now stands, we spend more time in the "temporary" Daylight Saving Time than we so in standard time, and I can't see how it has changed a thing.
 
That's saying it was for the farmers when really it was so the money men could phone each other at the same time across the country.
Is DST Devil time of course not, that is just crazy. Now if you were to say adding DST was to go against God that would be more believable.
But lets face it who started time? It was mankind, so man has given the devil somewhere to hide?
But then again DST may have been so that TV stations across the country could have put BTVS on at a decent time.

That's time zones, totally different than daylight savings time.

OMG the intellect! Time zones stay the same but DST vary to suit various areas at various times of the year.
Some of Australia has Daylight Savings. My state does not. We had a referendum for it after a three year trial. The arguments that came out of there for the against were like: "But the carpets/curtains will fade faster!" "The cows will be confused" "How will I put my kids to bed?"

It was rather embarrassing to be a West Aussie back in 2008
 
I hate daylight saving, I dont really understand why people like it. We had a trial here a few years back, it was excruciating to work in heat all day then come home and not have the HOT sun go down until 9pm! We had massive power problems and cuts, as people were getting home in the heat and all using the air conditioners, water and indoor appliances at the same time. I lived in the outer suburbs at the time and we had so many black outs, its was horrid! In a place like this - the power consumption peaked at the peak of the heat, children were leaving school in the worst of it. I could be more accepting of it during winter but really I did not understand why they needed to do it at all in a place with this much sunlight - except that the lazy city workers wanted more time for the beach and beer after work instead of doing things before work. Cant drink before work I guess.

Plus I was working trackwork at the time so we never got to start work in the light at all until the trial had finished. It really messed with many who worked with animals, locking and rugging a pony up at 5pm meant it still had 4 hours of heat and flies in a stable rather than the paddock unless I stayed at work until 8pm. It totally sucked for my farm and animal caring friends, we were all SO relieved when they ditched it.

My mum used to tell us it was daylight savings time when we were young so she could put us to bed early. I swore for years we had a trial in the 90's but now I think mum was just making it up so we would stay in bed even though the sun was up. 😛

The US has way more states which makes the time thing super confusing already!
