Recently I asked friends on Facebook what their favourite episodes are.
One of my friends replied that he thinks Dead Things is the best episode ever. He replied really quickly so he didn't seem to have to think about it.

I had to think about it though! (his response, I mean)

Dead Things is great, but what a dark choice. Misogyny, murder, self-loathing, sex in public (!! never forget that!! haha!), attempted rape, and brutal beatings. But it's far from being just a shock episode, it's raw, emotional and insightful and has Tara at her best.

So what do you folk think? Does it rate up there with the best of all seasons, or is it too divisive (fans often either love it or hate it) to be a top 10?

(My favourite episodes are Something Blue, New Man, Band Candy, Life Serial, The Zeppo, Gone, Triangle… actually I have a lot of favourites so I'll stop there before I list every episode)

This is a strange episode to have as a favorite, if I get asked about my fav, it's definitely not the first ep that would pop into my mind. It's a good episode, but honestly the whole Katrina thing just made me mad and disgusted, probably means that the episode did a good job with it, but I can't say I particularly like watching this one.

I don't think objectively it would be top ten or even on my personal top ten list, still I surely love it. Its a great episode and is so deliciously, wonderfully dark. 🙂

"Hush" has to be my favorite. The Gentlemen are just such creepy villains that they scare the living daylights out of me every time.

This episode would be one of my least favourite things.

Warrens story is just horrible, fantasticly done as thats whats it's supposed to be, but it's such a dark story.

And the scene between Buffy and Spike at the Bronze is the single worst scene of the entire show for me. It's overtly disgusting, and the theme of Spike wedging himself between Buffy and her friends to keep her for himself is sad for anyone that likes the relationship between the group.

I usually skip it on a rewatch.

I don't find anything shocking in "Dead Things". Warren and Katrina? I think that it was darker when The Master did the same with Buffy. Spike wants to turn Buffy into a vampire? Well, she's not going to be young and clinically depressed forever, make hay while the sun shines, right? So Buffy likes public sex? It's not like I don't have any fetishes. Big deal. The beating is interesting. The dialog shows just how much of a crazy martyr Buffy is. Also, I like how sadistic Buffy is in that scene, maybe hurting Spike turns her on?

But the best episode? No way.

The low point of Season 6, (or maybe that was 'Smashed'.), and Season 6 was the low point of the series, so pretty much the opposite of Best ep ever.

It isn't the worst in terms of quality, there's a lot of good acting and dark themes, the problem is the dark themes are so poorly handled. (they were actually handled much better in 'Consequences'- also about a slayer killing somebody).

Warren is pretty dispicable here, and poor Katrina! 🙁
Also Andrew gets no future flak for covering up a murder and trying to frame Buffy (or trying to drive her insane in 'Normal Again'), it's all 'I didn't mean to kill Jonathan and I'm sorry and now I'm a Scoobie and now I'm a watcher-in-training.' wtf!
