Deadly hurricane poised to decimate Florida

If you've been watching the news, then you'll know that a monster hurricane is rapidly approaching Florida. The storm surge alone is expected to reach 12 to 15 feet, and over 5 million residents have been ordered to evacuate. Also, 20 inches of rain is predicted from this storm. Wow.

We're paying more attention to this one, since it's predicted to eventually come into Northwest Georgia, where I live. Of course, by the time it gets here (next Tuesday, by all accounts now) it will have diminished to little more than very heavy rain and high wind, nothing like what Florida will be getting.

I'm more worried about the islands that have already been hit. It completely destroyed a lot of areas already, some places won't have electricity or water for months. I'm sure there's already tons of deaths. Without a doubt it will be devastating for Florida too, and I really hope people stay safe, but I'm so worried for those communities who have been destroyed and who weren't able to evacuate.

Oh the irony, it seems the page has been removed. It's really a bad state of affairs when literally the whole world is saying that climate change is real but some politicians still maintain that it's all a hoax.

Are these storms actually getting worse? Or are they just doing more damage cos more people live there?

Oz and US seem to cop similar weather. Mass flooding, cyclones and fires happen every year. The media just love to work up a frenzy. Social media has made it so much worse.

Storms cause damage, they've always happened on earth, yet they rebuild towns in the same manner and get all upset it is destroyed again by similar storms,floods or fires. Some parts of Oz cant be insured because the weather risk factor is so high.

The most shocking natural disaster that I have witnessed was the Bali Tsunamis, but it's possible I heard more about that having so many friends involved.

Most important thing is fresh water and shelter. The rest can be re-built. I hate seeing all these memes telling people to post blankets and clothes... Great way to stuff up services!

They're definitely getting worst in Canada. My town had a huge wind storm earlier this year, thousands of dollars in damage, it was unheard of until this year. Then a town a couple of hours over completely flooded, and keep in mind we're nowhere near any big body of water. Farmers are screwed, the crops will suck this year, there's barely any hay, it's way too wet. And last year was an equally bad year for agriculture. And the whole west of Canada is on fire. Things are getting worst every year over here.

Ive only been alive 32 years, but this stuff happens across the country, my entire life. we need to all be aware that these are not isolated incidents, and they wont stop happening. The difference is, we dont build cities in risk areas. Rather than mass media hysteria, perhaps we should be looking into how to safe guard people and buildings in the firing line of these fires and storms.

It looks like things are getting worse all around . My Dad lives in Texas & I was so scared for him . Lucky he didn't live where it was . And where I live we keep hearing about the Fires that are pretty bad right now.
