Deaths That You Think Should Not Have Happened

Let me attempt to clarify what I mean. It's not because I love Tara and wish that she could have lived. I love Anya, but have no issue with her death; it was cruel and unexpected, but it held great meaning.

I feel that Tara was just used to bring about Dark Willow, thus the lack of significance for me as a viewer. What I'm trying to say is that they could have brought about Dark Willow without having to use Tara as a tool. Yes, death can be unfair and unexpected, but I don't believe it can ever be meaningless.

Majority of Angels cast. If the Buffy/Angelverse ended with the show, I probably would be semi ok with it. But killing off basically every single charecter the Angel show had was just not a smart idea I think. Sure it shows that Joss and co. had balls but in the long run of things, it just isnt that great.

Cordelia should have never been killed off (it still makes me somewhat mad that she is the only original charecter from Buffy to be killed. Everyone else is still alive and kicking).

Wes shouldnt have been killed cause well he is Wes.

Killing off Fred only to bring in Illyeria is fine with me.

Killing off Gunn would have been fine with me.

Shouldnt have killed off Lilah, or if they had to, atleast still bring her back via Senior partners.

Since they got rid of basically anyone Angel came into contact with, I just couldnt even get into the comic. And well I want Wes/Cordy reunited with the Scooby gang.

Anya shouldnt have been killed off in Buffy.

Love Tara but I am fine with her charecter being killed off.

But in the long run, as far as Buffy is concerned, Anya is the only death I think never should have happened.

I agree with all of you about Tara's death a lot. Tara's death reduced Tara's character to "Willow's girlfriend". It really annoyed me because I think Tara was growing and coming into her own, a very strong character even independent from Willow. Her death put her back into that generic role. Her character was more than that and I wish more people (like Dawn) actually missed Tara for who she was as opposed to feeling sorry for Willow.

Agreed so much. Her death reduced her character to just being at best an extension of Willow's character, at worst a plot device. Her death was meaningless for her, it was all about its affect on Willow. Even after the Dark Willow storyline, all mentions of Tara (STSP, CWDP) were all about Willow's mourning, not about Tara herself. It was demeaning to the character.

And I wouldn't have wanted the Dark Willow we got, even if Tara hadn't died to make it happen.

I think that it's good that it Tara died- It was pointless. And a lot of deaths in real life are pointless. Not every death can have some big thing behind it.

Cordy's death certainly hit me hard- She IS my favorite character, after all, which makes her the one that I love the most. 😀 But I just want the best for her, and I think that she could really improve herself with some more space away from AI. So I'm fine with that. Plus, Cordy was getting too nice. 😛

So, as I stated in some other thread, the only death that really seemed unnecessary to me would be the death of that cute Soda Demon in That Old Gang of Mine.

... Killing of Lilah was pretty bad, too. I really didn't get why they killed her. She was an amazing character.

Pointless death... Tara. There was other ways they could've made Willow go dark, like maybe put Tara in a coma and have Willow trying to become powerful enough to be able to wake her up. It would've been just as good IMO and they wouldn't have needed to bring in Kennedy. And as for Cordelia, I felt her death had some meaning to it, and my dad and I started tearing up when Angel turned around only to figure out she's gone.

And killing off Lilah was awful, she was one of my favourite characters and Wesley's perfect match.

I think every death was essential to the story.

Do I LIKE every death that happened? No.

Jenny's death, as the first meaningful death of the Buffyverse, is definitely one that needed to happen. Well, in that way I mean, someone had to die for the audience to realize that Angelus really is a monster. I'm surprised Willow wasn't killed in the hallway in "Innocence", though it would have sucked. One reason I love "The Vampire Diaries" is Kevin Williamson isn't afraid to kill off major players. Despite fan attraction to a character.
(Anna, anyone?)

Joyce's death was amazing because it showed there are some things Buffy just can't fight. And it showed how unexpected death can be. And we got the most amazing hour of television out of it. Seriously, if you don't like "the Body" something is wrong with you.

Tara's death kills me when I see it because it was so.. meaningless. In the terms of the show, it brought out Dark Willow and progressed the addicted Willow storyline, but death by stray bullet is just.. almost an insult. Not that I'm saying that Joss or Marti is insulting Tara, but that death like that, being an innocent bystander and getting the fatal bullet is so gut-wrenching.

You can't be mad at Anya's death. I'm sorry. Emma wanted Anya to die in the battle because she didnt want to do anything after the finale. As well, giving up her life is the ending to the story. She started out as this demon-turned-human, and by the end she is a human who used to be a demon. Get it?

Cordy's death sucks as well. The whole Cordy storyline of s4-5 was awful, and it makes me mad that Joss ruined the character in s4 to essentially get back at Charisma for getting pregnant and keeping it under wraps for so long at the beginning of the season because it screwed with his vision of the season. I'm sorry, life happens Joss! But I do realize had Cordy been awake when "Home" happened, they most likely would NOT have left the Hyperion, thus prohibiting the season 5 we know from happening. Maybe she could have woken up and not died though? Help Angel get back to where he belongs? Though, I know that when they were shooting "You're Welcome," Joss still thought they'd get picked up for a sixth and final season, so he probably was gonna use her in s6 some as well.

Fred's death is one of my favorites to watch. She was definitely my favorite main character in Angel. And I cry every time I see "A Hole In The World". I hated it when I first saw it, but it showed how magnificent Fred as a character is, and how much she means to each of the men in her life. One thing that sucked is Wes and Fred JUST hooked up the episode before. Illyria is a good character, and I wish we could have seen more of the Fred continue to come out in season 6. (I refuse to read After The Fall after the fifth issue because I hated the direction it was taking, and I know it would have been different if the WB wouldn't have cancelled "Angel" because Joss wrote the series finale like it was because he KNEW it was the last episode. It would have been tweaked if it was just a season finale, and I'm 80% sure Wesley wouldn't have died.

Cordy, hands down. I just plain missed her and I've been missing her pretty much since the middle of S3 Ats. As much as I enjoy You're Welcome it just cannot compare to haing our Cordy (not Jasmine!Cordy) in those seasons.

Tied in with this death that I don't think should have happened is a death that should have stuck i.e. Spike. He was given the perfect ending with Chosen and I don't he has lived up to it since. He was brought into Buffy S4 to be the new Cordelia and the same thing was done when he was brought back in S5 of Angel. The thing is though, Queen C cannot be replaced.

Agreed.
Tara's death for me served a purpose. It drove Willow over the edge and the storyline made perfect sense to me. For me Tara's death didn't have an emotional impact on me. Throughout her time on the show i never really warmed to her. She was one of those characters i had nothing against but not someone i really cared about. There was nothing in her personality which made me really sad that she left the show.

The impact she had on the series for me was limited. She filled in the role Oz previously taken by Oz as this quiet partner of Willow and the storylines she was involved in rarely centred around herself. She was always just there to act as Willow's partner. Anya was similar in that sense, her involvement was mostly about her relationship with Xander. Both Tara and Anya hardly had any long meaningful scenes with other characters that were not Xander or Willow.

For me Tara leaving didn't leave that big of a void and its purpose made sense.

For me, the problem isn't that Tara's death lacked purpose, it's that it only served purpose for Willow. Perhaps Tara had always been somewhat an extension of Willow, but in S6 she was starting to grow into more of that, and it was truly insulting for her to be an extension in death.

I agree about the point in regard to Tara slowly starting to grow as a character and in that respect her leaving the show was a tad disappointing.

Yet even so this development hadn't been sufficient enough for me to really feel sad about her death. It was shocking don't get me wrong but it didn't provide me with the same feeling i felt when Angel was sent to hell by Buffy, Buffy's two deaths, Xander losing an eye etc.

I always thought Joss killed off Fred and created Illyria as a favour to Amy Acker, to give her a wider portfolio of 'character types she can play' so that she'd be able to get better work after Angel. Doesn't seem to have worked, mind you - she's pretty much stuck with him ever since.

The reason that Cordy's death gets me so mad is that Joss didn't just kill her. He destroyed her. Season 4 was just unending character assassination. It doesn't help that it wasn't really Cordy; in fact, it makes it worse. That means that Cordy herself really died at the end of S3 when she became a Higher Being. Then we don't see her again until You're Welcome, almost 2 years later. In S4, it's just someone else using her body, which is aweful, degrading, and disrespecful to her memory.

Cordelia, imo, is the only death that was truly effed up, and I have forever lost respect for Joss for that incident.

I agree. I will never forgive Joss for the whole Charisma/cordy crap he lost alot of respect in my eyes.

I also hate Tara and anyas death, but Tara while I hate it I do get why they killed her but anya just felt random.

I miss Jenny Calendar. I understand why Joss killed her off, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I also miss Joyce. She was the best mom ever. Tara and Anya's deaths I think are the worst because they just shouldn't have happened. Joss could have killed off Robin Wood instead of Anya, but no, it had to be one of the best characters he has ever created. Jonathan is also one that I miss. I mean, he was there from the beginning basically.

I go with Tara. She had the lamest death of all characters and it was totally pointless. And we wouldn't have had to see Willow with Kennedy 😉
Cordelia should have stayed longer.

Well that and the fact that had she not gotten pregnant then she probably wouldnt have gotten killed off.

oooooooooo nooooooo! lol. See I'll never loose respect for Joss, even if i didn't like some aspect he put into the show, i mean he created this whole universe for us, helped me get through rough spots and gave me entertainment from 7 grade till now and i am 24. lol so just because you don't agree with something doesn't mean you should loose respect.
