WHich do you believe in?? Destiny, written long before you were born...or the ability to throw caution to the wind and write your own destiny with free will...

same rules apply...no name calling...and respect each other's ideas...we all come from a broad background...

Not an easy question is it...

Free will !
I think u've always the choice to make ur decision.
It can be hard, very hard even, but u do it, I think that destiny is a way to say to urself that u'r no responsible for what u've done (no offence to those who believe that).

lol...frenchy is smart...

didn't see that destiny as a crutch and a burden...always seen it as a mission to be completed...thanx for givin me a new perspective ff...

i don't know....whenever you end up with a question that is bigger than you...its up for grabs....the more you think about it...the stronger the arguements get for either side...my opinion is that i don't know....could be either...

This is one I'm really not ssure about. I believe I make my own choices, yet I feel things influence us, and that there are soem broad ways ourl ives are laid out; for example I am very much with my horoscope and tarot, yet hate the idea of some force controlling me.

Hey I'm female, i'm allowed to be contradictory!!!

I believe it is both.
Like there is a general life plan laid out for all of us, but it is up to us to chose to follow it or not. I have seen to many odd things to believe life is completely random. So you have a general Destiny, but how you get there, and what you do with it is all up to you. That's just how I see it.

High school science would make one believe that everything that happens is a result of logical reactions between different molecules, atoms and other particles. This would make us conclude we are a product of destiny, as everything we do is a result of a chemical reaction, thus everything that happens can be predicted. Nothing is less true.

Modern science says that there are things that happen at random, for instance the movement of fotons, this suggests free will, cause not everything can be predicted we learn now. Or does it?

Quantum mechanics, and the string theory however, claim to be able to predict the random things, by seeing particles as strings rather then balls.

But they have their own problems with random time and such, so I don't think we'll have a solution for this matter anytime soon.

I believe in destiny. I think we choose the little stuff, but when it comes to the big stuff, it's all pre-written.

I believe that there are paths layed out for us but they change as we go along in life depending on the decisions we make.

Not sure what you class that as?

I once heard that free will and determism was like playing cards, the hand you get is determinism, the way you play that hand reprents your free will... but I just don't see determinism making any sense, not sense at all, it's hard to explain

and Allycat, now that you mention quantum mechanics, from quantum mechanics alot of theories are derived, and my interpretation of them leaves the universe in total chaos and in a final state of nihilism, where truth simply doesn't exist... especially the Everett Many Worlds Interpretation, quantum mechanics is still in really early stages, like Schroedinger said, without rules for it, it simply implies to much... forget his deadalive cat experiment, it also implies immortality for all beings among other things... it's really like the biggest paradox of all time

Like you said, it's still in early stage, but it IS promissing, and to me a lot of it sounds true. Just because the theory is still in construction doesn't mean why mustn't look at it, if people can use higher beings as arguments, I think quantum mechanics is a validated argument aswell. Ok, it leads us to no conclusion (yet). Or does it, in my opinion answering the question posed by Soulgasm is simply not yet possible, as a lot of it depends on the outcome of research on quantum mechanics. Now with the whole big snare theory, I believe most of all randomness is solved. If there would just be a logic to be found in the the lapse of mass to energy and vice versa, I think we'de nearly be there. But neither, snare-, quantum- nor gravitytheory seem to answer that.

I originally posted this is in the coincidences thread, but I felt it also applied here:

I believe in "free will". I do believe that I am in control of all the decisions I make, however, I do believe that you are drawn to certain things and led in a certain path. As individuals we might decide to stray off of that path, not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps we find a new path with new things along the way. Or maybe we are led back onto our original path, if we even ever strayed.... I believe that things happen for a reason, whether it is apparent at first or not. I strongly believe that in the end everything happened exactly how it was suppose to.....

I don't know if that makes sense to anyone, it's just how I feel....

I have also learned that you should never ever say the word "never". Life is so crazy and unpredictable, anything could happen if you stop to pay attention......

no, i don't say we mustn't look at it, we must! it's like the greatest idea, something that insane can't possibly be wrong, but the thing is that it NEEDS rules because so far it implies too damn much... I mean, there must be an infinite number of universes where God actually exists and created all, or there must be an infinite number of universes where the rules of quantum mechanics don't apply canceling themselves, or there must be an infinite number of universes where free will doesn't exist and everything is already written, or an infinite number where it is pure chaos without any sense of determinism... I mean, I wish part of it is true, because it would mean I'd never die, but it's still to early... also it doesn't answer how it all began, the multiverse I mean...

Well, I suspect it happened in a somewhat similar way ours did, energy, place and time randomly running through each other in one big chaos.

I heard about a theory which said that there r lots of our planet, which r the same that the one on which we r living, but in different time, like some of them r already in our futur, & other, still in our past, & on those planet, everything is like here, I mean, we r on other planet older or younger, but we have exaclty the same life. It's kinda difficult to explain, particulary in english, & I donno if it's the same as the quantum theory u spoke about Allycat, but if it was true, so, fate would exist.
I didn't say that I believed this theory though, I just say it, coz
even if I don't believe in destiny, I find this theory interesting.

& Soulgasm, I'm as smart as u & everybody in this chat, but wait a minute, r we smart in here, or just crazy ? lmao

I believe that our free will leads us to destiny and that not every aspect of life is planned for a certain destiny and your destiny is decided by your actions, but it's still destiny.
