I've recently discovered that my dad has got cancer of the gullet, which is bad enough, but it's like deja vu as my nan died of the same cancer when I was 6 months pregnant with my last son Jack, and I will be 7 months pregnant on Sunday.

I didn't take the news too well, but until my father has more surgery this Tuesday the surgeon does not know what the prognosis will be. It has already moved to the limph glands, which is a bad sign I think and if after Tuesday they decide that the cancer has spread too far then my dad has only got a maximum of 2 years at the best to live. If they can operate then he could have anywhere from 5-15 years but they have said the cancer will come back. They have also told him that 1 in 3 don't make it off the operating table either.🙁

Apparently cancer of the gullet is quite rare, but that is now 2 members of my family that have been diagnosed with it. My nan was my maternal nan, and so isn't even related to my dad which makes me wonder if somewhere in the future I will stand a higher chance of developing this cancer being as though both sides of my family have had it.

All I can do now is wait and see what the future has in store, but at least my dad should get to see his grandaughter born, whereas my nan died before Jack was born.

Hi Anya,

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I know there are no words anyone can say to make everything better or make it any less worring for you. I hope that there is better news for you tommorow.

You're both in my thoughts and prayers.
