Demons From Outer Space

I'm reading a fic and part of it is set during Listening to Fear, and it got me thinking about the Queller demon.

The transcript from the show discussing the demon:

XANDER: Wait, I just saw... Queller. Quell ... here, here! "Primitive people used to believe that the moon was a cause of insanity. Sometimes they would pray to the moon to send a special meteor to fix the problem the moon had caused. These meteors were expected to quell the madmen.

What I don't think is made clear is whether the demon actually originates from space and is summoned, or if it's simply conjured up somehow via the 'prayer' (probably a spell) inside a meteor that then lands on Earth.

If it's the former, then do you think that there could be other space demons in the Buffyverse?

Ben inferred that he called upon the Queller to clean up Glorificus's mess when he was talking to that mini-monk with brain damage. What he said eludes me, but I got the inference that they come from outer space.
Which begs another question, since it was the brain tumour that caused Joyce to act loopy, why did she stop being loopy? And why didn't another Queller come to Earth?

Writers and scriptwriters have been attempting to take what is fact and include it in a story... such as Vlad The Impaler.
I'm sure if that episode had a greater impact more such episode mixing fact from outer space would have been. But the fairy tale stories were an easier subject to broach.
