Desktop customisation

I had a complete Buffy theme on my old pc if that counts for anything. I'll never forget how awesome it was hearing Spike roar instead of the error beep and the buffy theme playing when i logged on etc.

Did you even have a Buffy visual style? O_O
 
When I want to customize something in XP, I usually just go to Customize.org. They have a ton of already pre-made schemes for XP [and a few other OS', I think] and they have the instructions on how to install them. It's also very, very free.

The icons on my desktop I made myself because no one has any Buffy icons up for grabs. I downloaded IconEditor [I dunno who makes it or where to find it anymore] and you can use pictures and they save as .ico files. The program is a free trial for about 30 days or something, so you can make all the icons you want in 30 days and let the program expire without buying it.

The old standby site I used to use was ThemeXP. There you can download boot screens and new login screens and stuff. I've had a bad run with those - a boot screen didn't install right and I had to wipe my hard drive. There's a program there [StyleXP or something like that] that can do it all for you, but you have to pay for it. That program's also a free trial, but once it expires all of your settings revert back to regular Windows settings.

I use a folder with a tv on it as my Buffy icon, cuz you know, it was a tv show....
 
Have you ever seen those Buffy dolls Allycat makes. You can link to them in is sig. Those would make great icons.
 
I never thought of using them as icons, shouldn't be too hard actualy with the right program
 
I've had an Alice in Wonderland "theme" for years. There's wallpaper and icons for the recycle bin, My Computer and networks do-dads. My curser doesn't do the hour glass (in fact, I noticed this week that I don't even know what the hour glass means anymore.) It does a blinking Cheshire cat head for working in the background and a tea pot with the doremouse popping out for busy.
It also came with LOTS of sounds.
It's one of the things that is making it take forever to get used to the new computer. I'm so used to it talking to me and making sense, and now that I'm back to beeps it's hard. But, I'm working on figuring out ways to change it all back so my computer will make sense again!

Your new computer's a Mac isn't it? I don't know how to customise those, sorry D=
