Dexter: The Books and the Series

I haven't read the books, but I have heard people talk about how similar the books are to the series.

I think they must be talking about how the characters kind of walk out of the books, because some of the details I hear about seem pretty different from the series. For example Deb doesn't hook up with Rudy in the book, does she? Also isn't there a big thing made about Dexters connection to Rita's kids in the book? It's only hinted at in the series. I don't think Rita's husband (is his name Paul?) is played up much as a character in the books is he?

I've not read the first book yet because I can't find it. But I have read the second.

The one thing that struck me from the book is how Dex keeps on referring to his 'Dark Passenger'. In 'Dearly Devoted Dexter' (second book) there is a big connection between Dex and the kids,

especially Cody as he starts killing animals and Dex takes him under his wing as Harry did with him

One thing I love about the books and the series is that I don't feel spoiled because the things they change work out for the better of the series. Normally i'm against changing things (Bones being a prime example) but with this they are both of such high standards that I like it.

I highly recommend the books my name is actually based off the first book Darkly Dreaming Dexter. The books are great and actually season two has branched off the books and is nothing like the 2nd book. I like this though becasue I get two different stories. I am currently reading the 3rd book Dexter in the Dark and it is great. If you have the chance I highly recommend them.

Totally forgot that the latest Dex book was published in the UK this month. Have to get my hands on it!

I'm bad for books to tv, I was a big fan of the 'Bones' books and at times i'm iffy about how they jhave transfered..

Dexter is the first show to really stick to the books, and for once i'm glad that season 2 hasn't followed the second book. Although the whole 'Cody' angle was a good one, hopefully they will pursue that one later!

Must head out tomorrow and get the new Dex book.

ive read al three books and i love the way they are wrote, the language he uses make you really taste the words, its weird and hard to explain but i love them

also seen both seasons and even tho they differ (sometimes greatly from the books) its still fantastic... hope the dvd set gets release in the uk
